#外游 Assisi is located in the central part of Italy, in the Umbria region. This medieval country town is a "religious holy city" that attracts many religious pilgrims every year. The reason is ~ this is the birthplace of the Catholic saint ~ San Francesco! Tourists visiting Assisi all come to the Basilica di San Francesco! The church was built on a small hill and was listed as a World Cultural Heritage in 2000. The location of this church was actually the place where criminals were executed before the 13th century, so it was also called "Hell Hill". Saint Francis chose to be buried here after his death, together with the criminals, so this hill is also called "Heaven Hill". The church consists of two parts: the upper church and the lower church. The upper church was built between 1230 and 1253 and contains many beautiful frescoes, each expressing a different biblical story. The Lower Church was built between 1228 and 1230. On the lower level of the Lower Church is where St. Francis is buried.
