#Overseas Travel I love climbing up the tower to see the scenery! There is an ancient tower in Torre del Moro called Torre del Moro, which was built in the late 13th century and is 47 meters high. Climb up to the top terrace of the tower to enjoy a 360-degree magnificent view, and you can see the magnificent cathedral in the city and the nearby countryside. The building was commissioned by the famous Roman architect Virginio Vespignani to design it in neoclassical style and was completed in 1863. In 1922, the theater was renamed in honor of the famous composer Luigi Mancinelli. There was a stage play being rehearsed when I visited. Monteleone d'Orvieto is an old medieval village in the north province of Terni. It is located on one of the hills that separate Orvieto from Città della Pieve; from that area you can admire a breathtaking view that sweeps from Tuscany to Lazio. Its ancient origin seems to date back to Etruscan times. During the Middle Ages, Brandetto Castle was built around the year 1052 as a defensive stronghold. Its remains are still visitable today. Sitting on top of a big butte of volcanic tuff, Orvieto retains large signs of its Etrurian past, so much so that the first thing that stood out to me was the light brown tones across its alleys and its roads. The Duomo cathedral is the main attraction. The church was built in the 14th century and is dedicated to the Ascending of the Virgin Mary. Aesthetically it might remind you of the more famous Cathedral of Siena, obviously because of its roman-gothic style! This one in Orvieto is one of the most significant in Italy. Don’t miss a visit to another landmark of note, like Torre del Moro for a sunset view of the town and the surrounding hills, Pozzo di San Patrizio and Fortezza Albornoz! Since we are in Umbria, food plays a unique role. Local cuisine is highly appreciated thanks to its cured meats and other traditional dishes. It takes 2 hours by train from Rome and is located on a high ground, so it has a great view. Orvieto was my last stop on the Umbria itinerary. After this I was to head to Rome. And luckily for me having somewhat exhausted myself. I was in need of a slow paced destination, preferably less people and more value. Also, from the previous night in the hostel, someone told me about a dish that mixed wine with chicken and is a speciality in Orvieto. I'm a fan of dishes where alcohol makes its way into the food. I was already excited about visiting this place. Orvieto is divided into two parts. The old town and the new. When i arrived at the train station. I was told this was the new town and I made my way to the old town to check into my hostel. That walk alone felt like i was already sightseeing in this authentic hill town. The daytime seems fairly busy. And since I began at the train station. Naturally I could see plenty of tourists around. The evenings were way quieter. The following day was very eventful as i saw some of the best things in Orvieto. The likes of the the National archeological museum, the cathedral, Palazzo del popolo, the museum of Claudio, St. patricks well and Torre del moro. You are likely to discover many other places that i might have missed. But my top recommendation and personal favourite is the underground city. #TravelWithMe A perfect day trip from Rome is Orvieto, known as the "world's most beautiful city on a hill," which once flourished as a retreat for the Pope. The narrow, winding streets, arches, and rows of low, irregularly shaped houses made of tuff and basalt create a very beautiful sight. After taking a funicular and a small bus to the town on a small hill, you will be greeted by the Duomo with its spectacular façade. Its distinctive stripes, completed over a period of about 300 years, are a sight to behold without ever getting bored. A must-see is the Pozzo di S.Patrizio Well on the right hand side of Piazza Cahen. The well was built in 1527 by order of the Pope at the time to secure water in preparation for a siege. Carved into tuff, the well is 62 meters deep, 13 meters wide, and has two spiral staircases with 248 steps. The stairs are designed so that people won't collide when going down to get water and when carrying it back to the ground. Apparently people used to go down on horses, which is why the stairs are so low. The skylights are impressive, and just going down and up the stairs creates a fantastical space, which is interesting. By the way, in Italy they say that a spendthrift has "pockets like the well of San Patrizo." Perhaps as a reference to this, coins are thrown into the bottom of the well, in hopes that money will accumulate. 　 Orvieto

Duomo Di Orvieto is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the town of Orvieto in the Umbria region of central Italy. It is large in scale and was ordered to be built by Urban IV in the 14th century to commemorate the miracle of the Corpus Christi of Bolsena. It is said that in 1263, in the nearby town of Bolsena, a priest who traveled here doubted the doctrine of transubstantiation, and as a result, he found that his sacramental bread was bleeding a lot, so much so that it stained the altar cloth. This cloth is now stored in the Corpus Christi Chapel of the cathedral.

I visited Orvieto in northern Rome this November. I met two cats while staying at a small hotel. They came into my room and slept without permission, and ate my lemon cake and boiled eggs. I just love it. Really. I traveled for three months and spent the last days with them going back to my home country. All the other days were good, but the most memorable thing now is the cats.

#OverseasTravel It is a Renaissance engineering masterpiece! It was built to supply water to the city. It was built in 1537. This historic well is 54 meters deep. There are 248 steps in total, non-stop down the stairs down to the bottom of the well, the stairs are very wide and clean, there are window steps along the way. Drop down to the bottom of the well, cross a narrow bridge to the stairs at the other end, and start climbing back up. The biggest feature of this ancient well is the double spiral design, which means that you go up the stairs without encountering people coming down the stairs, nor when you go down the stairs. This design is said to be from ancient times, when mules went up and down stairs to get water, without colliding with each other. Very characteristic design, well worth a visit.
