The George in Rye

"It's an old house with no elevator, so it's not recommended for travelers with large suitcases. There are only about 20 rooms in total, each with its own characteristics. We stayed in the attic on the top floor, where the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom and had a large bathtub."

Playden Oasts Hotel

Playden Oasts Hotel

📍 Rd, Playden, Rye
★★★ 8.2 (66 reviews)

"We had a lovely break in Rye only spoilt by staying in the Playden Oast Hotel. The 1st evening one of our group was served new potatoes with their meal. The potatoes were so old the had started sprouting and the chef didn't even have the sense to remove them before cooking and serving them. On Sunday evening we went back to the hotel to sit in the bar to have a couple of drinks only to be told we'd have to leave at 7.30pm as they were going home. The bar is the only communal area. So we sat outside in the cold to finish our drink and went back to our rooms. This morning we were confronted by the house keeper who stopped us entering the main building by making us give her our keys. Her time would have been better spent dusting the dead flies and dust from the window sill in the corridor outside our rooms. The saving grace was the lovely lady who served us breakfast each morning. She makes an amazing omelette."

The Regent, Rye

📍 42 Cinque Ports St, Rye
★★ 8.5 (7 reviews)

"Great, central location, spotlessly clean, super comfy bed & good value. Lots of lovely eateries in immediate vicinity so don’t be put off by no breakfast provision. We stayed in the “Beach” super king room at the back of the property so very peaceful. Friendly welcome & easy check in/out."

The Ship Inn ★★★★
"The room was ok, but the kitchen vent was just below the window and was noisy. I wouldnt recommend this room to anyone and as the Ship Inn is not cheap I wasnt expecting this issue"

The River Haven Hotel ★★★
"The room is very old and close to the road. The soundproofing of the window is very poor and leaky. The toilet is too simple and the sound of the exhaust fan is better than that of a motorcycle. The hot water is as small as tears. I had to give up taking a shower to avoid catching a cold. However, to be honest, the hotel is quite close to the town. The British aunts are very polite. The recommended restaurant (The Standard) is not bad. Although the breakfast is not a buffet, it is still good according to the menu and you can eat enough."

The George in Rye ★★★★
"Such a great hotel, with the best access to everywhere in Rye. 3 min to the station. One of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in the UK. The people who work here are very welcoming, and the lovely receptionist helped us when we lost our AirPods, so nicely."

Playden Oasts Hotel ★★★
"The hotel itself was fine and in a good location and the staff pleasant. The restaurant, bar and breakfast room were welcoming and attractive. But, the room was a total let down. It was in the annex and was described as ‘en-suite’. The loo and shower were separate, which wouldn’t have been a problem. But, there was no heater in the loo and the weather was chilly at the time. Also the shower room was very small. The biggest let down however, was that the handbasin was actually in the bedroom. So you needed to come out of the loo to wash your hands ! None of the pictures that we had looked at for room 10 had shown the hand basin was in the bedroom. So for £156 per night it was poor value. The highlight of our three night stay however, was the fish & chip supper on Friday night.. it was outstanding."

The Regent, Rye ★★
"Hubby and I chose The Regent after reading the reviews. The motel is only a few minutes walk from Rye station and in the centre of town. We stayed in family room number 5 for one night as it was the only room available on our chosen date. The room and bathroom were very clean but the TV remote control was filthy as was the kettle - it didn’t help that it also had someone’s hair attached to it. The dressing gowns were a nice touch and the towels were lovely and soft. There was an ‘honesty box’ in the room containing water, canned drinks, chocolate, peanuts and crisps. If you don’t leave the correct payment the notice says they’ll deduct the payment for goods taken from the card you used to book the room with, plus they’ll take an additional £5 admin fee. We came down to the bar at 6.10pm and were greeted warmly. I noticed a sign on the board saying happy hour was between 5.00pm and 6.00pm. It would have been nice to have been given this information when we checked in. The Regent does not serve breakfast and the local cafes don’t open until 9.00am or 9.30am which is a shame as we’re early rises. All in all it wasn’t a bad stay. "
