This is a beautiful hotel and definitely deserves its rating. Our room was gorgeous and had a great view overlooking the hills. The pool area is lovely, it has great views from every side. There were always sun loungers available and it is a peaceful and relaxing space. We never normally bother with breakfast but it was too good to miss, plenty of choice and all freshly cooked. It was great fun watching Bella the robot. We had a meal in the rooftop restaurant and lunch in the pool bar and it was all excellent. The staff were all great too, all really helpful and polite.

Very good location, various full breakfasts, staff available.
The weak point is that there are only six places where you can park, but often you already have it. The possibility to park in the casino's parking lot is up to € 6.30 throughout the day.
Another weak point of the soundproofing of the room is the sound of TV, doors in the adjacent room.
Sufficient hotel, pleasant pool, jacuzzi hammam and small gym for 3/4 day!

Everything was fantastic, hotel location, services and design of the hotel. I enjoyed the 2 nights there. Unfortunately the welcoming was not good for me as I waited for 3 hours and 20 minutes. Yes I came early before the check in time which is 2 Pm and I came at 11:50 and the front deck staff ( Eduard ) confirm to me that my room will be ready at 2 pm but till 3:10 pm only I got to my room after I esclate my issue to the front deck manager ( Peter ), the problem was not about the time I lost, but the attitude of front deck staff as he is looking to my face multiple times and he didn’t come to say sorry that your room not yet ready just to apologizing…

The Hotel Next in Funchal on Madeira impresses with its excellent location right on the water. The rooms, although spacious, tend to create a somewhat subdued atmosphere due to their darkness. Nevertheless, the hotel scores with comfortable beds, modern furnishings and attractive bathrooms. Breakfast, served in a canteen style, has a limited selection and the quality could be improved. A highlight, however, is the beach club on the water, which, although without a beach, stands out positively with a pool and direct access to the sea via a jetty.

A lot of stairs to the sea, but also there is elevator.

The breakfast is very good, suitable for children, the location of the hotel is impeccable, it can be said that the best. Recommended by British friends, the price is more expensive than other hotels. I didn't feel anything special when I looked at the website pictures, but I still believe in my friends and I booked them. Check-in is at night, from the front desk reception to the lead to the room to experience the professional, enthusiastic and meticulous service of the hotel staff. Needless to mention the room, there is a hotel manager's personal welcome speech, service introduction box, postcard, welcome dessert... Feel the bay's breeze night view on the balcony, drink some red wine, great. After a long-distance flight, take a shower in the classic and elegant bathtub, sweet as a dream. At 7 o'clock in the morning, the sun has not come out, greet a new day in the heated swimming pool in Jingyi. If you like sea water, you can swim in two seawater swimming pools, especially the unique piscina pool on the beach, let you let go of your imagination. Breakfast is a surprise. Every meal is carefully prepared, with a wide selection of ingredients, a wide variety of foods, and a lot of local specialties. The tableware is exquisite, and you can enjoy the feeling of the rising sun. The breakfast manager is great, remembering the name of each guest and feeling warm. Location is great. Housekeeping excellent. Room was clean and comfortable. My bed was comfortable but my husband's bed was not (can feel the springs). The hall carpets very dirty. Lack of staff. Poor customer service at reception. The process was not explained for the pool towels and the parking card. We did not receive pool and parking cards in our envelope. The roof top pool is very nice. No staff there though. No bar men available. It is extremely hot and there's no shade provided. We asked for umbrellas but were told they don't do that in October even though it was mid 30s!! It was too hot to be there without shades!! The neighbouring hotel had umbrellas. With staff attendants always present. The wall plant, at the pool, was knocked over and soil was left on the pool deck. The soil spillage was still there 3 days later. Breakfast is included. It has a lot of variety. Cold foods great (fruit, breads, cakes, cheeses) but hot food was a low rating (eggs tasteless, bacon and pancakes sit too long and are hard),

Stuffy room at the back of the hotel. Noise from street traffic and air conditioning in the shopping center is disturbing. Poolside rooms are better. Poor ventilation in bathroom. Buffet breakfast is ok. Parking in the adjacent public car park is good. However, this is not described anywhere and requires some searching for new guests.

The hotel is very well maintained and looks beautiful from the outside and inside. The rooms are very comfortable, and a very good nights sleep… the best I have had in many months. The staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay. The gardens and swimming pool have a great view and are a real pleasure to walk around. A big thank you to the staff ! We appreciate your hard work.

Great location close to lots of restaurants and bars, and bus stops. It's not too far to walk to the city center and there's lots to see on the way there, too.
The rooms were clean, shampoo etc. was provided and there were even extra blankets which we were very grateful for as it can be chilly at night.
What we did not enjoy that much was the breakfast, as both restaurants serve about the same food and it was the same every morning. The taste was ok but we probably won't add breakfast the next time we stay, or not for all days.
Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, however, the hotel appeared to be understaffed, meaning we'd have to wait quite a bit to receive service, e.g., at the reception, and staff seemed stressed at times.

EElia KazakovExcellent big hotel. Many German pensioners. Very good location - on the ocean shore, next to a large shopping center Forum and beach Formoz. By 1 or 2 bus the road to the center of Funshala takes 12 minutes.
Breakfasts are very diverse, but queues for coffee after 8 a.m.. They go on the floor with a stunning view of the ocean, you can sit on the street.
I didn't like the pools - with a beautiful view, but the water is narrow, everywhere on the belt. Only for children. The air conditioner works only for cooling - the room was cold.

The hotel probably has the best compromise location in Funchal. Wonderful ocean views (directly over the sea by the poor area) and not too far to walk down town, unlike Reid’s etc which are a decent distance further uphill. The view from the ocean suite rooms is great, over the grounds, pool and gardens, Reids on the horizon and the ocean stretching into the distance. The rooms themselves are spacious, well fitted out with what you need, clean, well serviced and with nice balconies. They are however a bit stuck in the 1990s decor wise, as is the whole hotel. Can’t comment on the restaurants as we ate downtown, but the breakfasts were excellent. The outside pool area is very good, with lots of tucked away sitting areas and plentiful sun beds. The indoor pool and sauna/steam is a nice addition as well. Wi Fi is quick and free. People have mentioned timeshares and yes, there are seemingly a lot of long term, repeat guests (we saw a storage room full of curver boxes of food etc) but it doesn’t really impact anything. There are sales folk around, but they are unobtrusive and don’t approach you at all. The age profile is quite “mature” and it is also very heavily British so be aware. For us, it was a nice week long break in the sun, with a good, comfortable room, close to the good restaurants and sights in Funchal.

MM3274IKwilliamrWe did really enjoy our stay. Our room was lovely and clean, and the staff very friendly. I do however encourage the management to pay more attention to maintenance details before it’s too late; the hotel is on the cusp of customers legitimately challenging its five-star status. Just maintenance details but lots of them for example worn-out terrace and pool furniture, broken decking light fixtures around the pool, blown light bulbs in common spaces, worn-out/broken spa equipment and more. It’s these details that really define a proud five-star hotel vs. a hotel slowly moving towards a change of ownership. It just needs a manager to walk around with more critical eyes and get these jobs done before the start of the next main season, before it becomes too overwhelming for a hotel of this size.

We arrived late evening and very tired but received a very warm welcome and equally welcome glass of wine. The gentleman on reception even brought our cases to our room, which was very large and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea. Everything was spotlessly clean. We stayed 10 nights and bedding and towels were constantly changed by a very smiley and hard working member of housekeeping. All staff were friendly and helpful. We only had bed and breakfast but what a treat eating outside overlooking the sea. Food choice at breakfast was excellent and constantly being replenished. Waiters friendly and efficient. Pool area was lovely with nice views and surrounded by palm trees. Saving of sun beds not allowed so all very relaxed. Very clean and tidy. Music some evenings but nothing to disturb other guests. For a largish hotel it still had a very personal feeling. Delilia the customer relations manager was extremely helpful, answering queries and booking restaurants. There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance of tge hotel. Noticed guests with mobility scooters and walking sticks so good to know all people are catered for. Bus stop just outside hotel so apart from walking into Funchal there is good transport available. We loved our stay here.

Good points. Views are amazing. Staff helpful and hardworking. Restaurant was very good. Lots of choice and tables cleared quickly. Dine out option a positive. We went twice to Mama Mia and ate from the special menu and it was superb. Beautifully presented and nice atmosphere. Staff here were also excellent. Lunch at pool bar good value and once again great good. Plenty of sunbeds so no need to rush in the morning. Bad points. Room was tired, dated and bland. Very much in need of a refurbish. Furniture was awful. Chipped, cheap and not of any decent standard. Toilet toll holder fell off the wall on day 1 and eventually on day 4 I had to report as housekeeping didn’t. Was fixed straightaway. Rug in room was stained and old. Not pleasant. Ghastly mirrored walls in the bathroom. We’re not all Kate Moss. It’s something I never want you to see again. The hotel ambassador visited the room and agreed with the poor stsndard of the room. Explained the hotel was being refurbished. As an apology sent fruit and wine to the room which was a nice gesture. However the room should have not been occupied like this. Certainly nowhere close to what we envisioned. Sun deck was a mass of grey concrete. Lots of attention needed here. One of the rails into the pool roped off as wobbly. Was like that the whole week. Lots of broken concrete. However with a bit of refurbish and maybe a bit of colour as it is so bland it would be worth a revisit. Jet2 should be aware of the above and adjust prices accordingly. Not quite a 5 star experience. The hotel ambassador was very good, apologetic and listened to our issues. A report was done.

GGuest UserThe hotel is in Lido area with plenty of restaurants and small super markets near by. Only 3 mins walk to bus top where can bring you to City Center €1.95 single one way and airport. €5 single one way, €8 return. Walking to City center is about 20-30mins. Only 10mins walk to Forum Madeira shopping mall. Breakfast is good with many choices of fruit, salad, yogurt, ham, eggs, bread, cereals. Indoor, outdoor pool and gym are nice too. We stay in sea and swimming pool view studio with kitchenette. The balcony is wonderful.
Staffs are polite and patient. Only one con, no air conditioning in 31 degrees. Only have a ceiling fan.

AAd rianThe hotel is located in a good area. Close to restaurants, beaches or boardwalk. Breakfast is decent, and the room was clean. A bit old mattress, and the furniture as well.
Considering the paid price, I would say the hotel delivers the right services.

RReyho0nThe hotel is in a good location and the sea view room which we reserved had a nice view of ocean. But, I need to mention that this hotel is not a 4 star hotel. The whole building is old and they kept it in an old fashion way. The bath is not good, they don't offer even water in daily service and neither tea. (which is expected from a four star hotel)
The elevator is old and always full, really not suitable for an eleven floor building.

GGuest UserMy daughter and I spent an amazing week in Madeira and at the Greco hotel. The hotel is located right in the centre of Funchal, next to a Continente supermarket - very handy. About 10 min on foot from the Promenade, the beach and the bus stops. Our room was huge, spotlessly clean, quiet, with comfy beds and comfy bathroom. The breakfast was sufficient, with amazing coffee. The hotel boasts a really pleasant roof terrace - perfect for stargazing or just relaxing in the evening. A massive credit goes to the Staff - all very friendly, very helpful, always smiling and polite. I think this hotel has become our favourite in the Sé area of Funchal and we will definitely be back.
