I’m Isabel Fryszberg, an occupational therapist and artist engaging individuals and communities through art making. For over thirty years I’ve worked in healthcare, mental health and education finding new ways to create restoration and self-care through the arts. I’m also a painter, singer songwriter and filmmaker. Artmaking has been both my own lifeline and one I am passionate to share with others. I am excited to bring this eight-week in-person series of mindful art-making to Story Planet, a welcoming, neighborhood storefront in Seaton Village. Each session I will introduce a new palatte of playful tools to liberate your creative self. We will explore mindful watercolours, creative journalling, mixed media painting, plein air painting in the park, painting from your iphone photographs using grid techniques and bringing life to still life. You will learn to leave your perfectionist behind and embrace new ways to blossom. Whether you’re a beginner, a seasoned artist, or curious about opening new doors for mindfulness and meditation through art, this will be an opportunity to liberate your expression and, most of all, joy. Doors 6pm Show 7.30 Three years after releasing her career defining album DEAR JOHN, and only seven months after the follow up “Cyclone”, Sam Buckingham returns with her most raw and revealing work yet. The Bathurst Archers Women and Girls Program runs on every 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the month. We encourage all women and girls to come along and try archery and have some fun. It’s a fantastic sport and you’ll make lots of friends along the way and become part of a great community. Sessions run from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm weather permitting. Each session costs $10.00 ($5.00 for Club members). We ask all participants to arrive by 12.30 pm to sign in and get equipment. This July, Refugee Tales is walking for 5 days in solidarity with refugees, people seeking asylum, migrants, and people who have experienced immigration detention. Together, we are walking from Southwark to Wimbledon via Hackney, Muswell Hill, Kenton, and Brentford. Each evening, we will join with the local community to listen to the stories of people who have experienced immigration detention and enjoy live music from around the world. About Refugee Tales Since 2015, Refugee Tales walkers have been embarking on small and large scale walks in solidarity with refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, and people who have been held in immigration detention . This year we are celebrating our 10 year annerversary! We have been met with kindness and hospitality every step of the way. Working in collaboration with migrants and those who have experienced the UK asylum system - and taking Chaucer’s great poem of journeying as a model - established writers and people with lived experience of detention share their tales with local communities at evening events . We also enjoy live performances from renowned musicians which never fail to get us up and dancing! The tales we tell are published in five volumes by Comma Press . Some have been written collaboratively with authors such as Ali Smith, Nobel Prize winner Abdulrazak Gurnah, Kamila Shamsie, Patrick Gale, and Bernardine Evaristo. Others are first-hand accounts told directly by the people who experienced them. In sharing these stories, Refugee Tales gathers and communicates experiences of migration and the reality of immigration detention in the UK.
