To sign up for the October 17 performance of MOSSBELLY, presented as part of the Music Gallery's 2024 Series X Avant XIX: TeXture, please reserve through Showclix. — An intergenerational performance and choreographic meditation on our human connection to land, plant life, nature and time, MOSSBELLY combines the movement of the body with methods of encountering plant-life. Emerging from her long-term and deep engagements with moss, artist Angela Vitovec asks, “What does moss look like when it dances? Through the lens and in the spirit of the moss plant, dancers move, connect and support each other just as moss supports the ecosystems of a forest. This is a choreography of horizontal harmony with no centre, just rhythms that embrace us and develop a new and entirely sensual poetry of bodies and their presence. MOSSBELLY is a slow, studied, and soothing performance that, like moss, inhabits time and space like a forest and quietly integrates itself into the cracks of daily urban concrete spaces. If you have questions about attending a program, or would like assistance securing tickets, email programs@torontobiennial.org. — The Toronto Biennial of Art’s mission is to make contemporary art accessible to everyone. A ten-week event every two years, the Biennial commissions artists to create new works for a city-wide exhibition in dialogue with Toronto’s diverse local contexts. Year-round public and learning programs bridge Biennials and invite intergenerational audiences to explore the ideas that inspire our events. Building upon past editions and offering new ways of seeing and listening, each Biennial connects people to spark meaningful dialogues and imagine new futures. Dark and mysterious things happen in the studio after dark. One night per year, we invite you to witness this phenomenon for yourself...if you dare. Join us for the annual Brass Butterflies Halloween Party and Showcase. You'll be entertained throughout the evening by Pole, Aerial, Chair, Heels and Burlesque performances by our students, staff, and special guests. Costume contest, games, vendors, non-alcoholic refreshments, catered food, and Halloween treats await you, all included in your ticket price. There will also be a licensed cash bar, catered by Bingeman's (guests must be 19+ to purchase alcohol). Costumes are HIGHLY encouraged. Because we tend to get at little scary (and sexy) at Halloween, this is an 18+ event. Only those 19+ will be permitted to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages. Tickets purchased online through Eventbrite will incur a service charge. Tickets purchased in-studio (with cash, card present debit or credit, or e-transfer) will not incur fees other than HST. Sorry, we can't charge your card on file in Wellness Living for event tickets. This event is primarily targeted at the Brass Butterflies studio community (adult students, staff, instructors), and their friends and family, however anyone can buy a ticket. Please keep in mind that this is primarily a student recital, not a professional show. All attendees are expected to behave respectfully toward the performers. No outside photography or recording of performances is allowed. No outside food or drinks permitted. NO REFUNDS FAQs Q. Can I get a refund if I can no longer attend. A. Sorry, we're unable to offer refunds for tickets once purchased. Q. Do I have to wear a costume? A. No, but it's more fun if you do, and you could win a prize! Q. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? A. Alcohol will be sold at this event to those 19+ and you may be asked to present valid photo ID. Because some of the performances may have mature themes we are recommending that only those 18 years of age and older attend this event. Q. Will you be selling tickets at the door? A. If not sold out, on the day of the event tickets may be purchased online through Eventbrite only. We will not be selling tickets at the door. Q. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? A. No. You can bring it on a mobile device. If someone else is buying your ticket and you are not arriving together, please make sure you know the name and email address that your ticket order was placed under, in case we need to look it up for you if the check-in scan doesn't work for any reason. Q. What are my transport/parking options for this event? A. We have lots of on-site parking. Carpooling or taking a taxi or ride-share service is recommended over public transportation as buses do not run to our location later in the evening on weekends. GRT buses do run regularly to Conestoga Mall (a 15 minute walk away), and the shared cost of a taxi or Uber from there would be minimal. Q. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? A. Please contact us at info@brassbutterflies.com or 519-577-7653 Q. Can anyone attend? A. This event is primarily targeted at the Brass Butterflies community (students, staff, instructors), and their friends and family, however anyone can buy a ticket.
