Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist | National Gallery of Art
Mar 9–Jul 6, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Committed to both craft and causes, this visionary artist-activist continues to inspire us today. One of the defining artists of the 20th century, Elizabeth Catlett addressed the injustices she witnessed and experienced in America and Mexico through her bold prints and dynamic sculptures. See more than 150 of her creations in this exhibition, including rarely seen paintings and drawings. Trace the career of this cultural force—from her roots in Washington, DC, Chicago, and New York to the remarkable body of work she made during some 60 years in Mexico. In striving to make art for the people, Catlett put social justice at the very center of her work.

Give yourself permission to step away, for a time, from the concerns of the world. Join us for an immersive walk along the

The experience begins with an orientation to, and expression of gratitude for, the place where we will be spending our time. It includes warm-ups, centering, breathing exercises, a non-strenuous walk, and a brief time sitting. We conclude by reflecting on the experience and learning how the practice can be used in daily life.

Technology and Civilian Innovation in Defense: Rethinking Taiwan Resilience | DPP U.S. Mission
Jun 2, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Background
As Washington continues to assess Taiwan’s self-defense capacity largely through the lens of defense budgets and conventional military readiness, this event invites a broader conversation:
What truly defines a nation’s ability to endure and respond to conflict?
Drawing on over three years of Ukraine’s wartime experience, we explore how resilience is not built by state institutions and armed forces alone, but also through the mobilization of civil society and the adaptability of its technology ecosystem. From rapid drone innovation to decentralized, civilian-driven supply chains, Ukraine has demonstrated how democratic societies can shape defense outcomes in unconventional and powerful ways. In this context, Taiwan stands at the forefront of a pressing global challenge. As a technologically advanced democracy facing sustained coercion from the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan is actively exploring new modes of defense that combine formal military capabilities with civilian technological innovation and whole-of-society resilience strategies.
Objectives
This discussion aims to broaden how Taiwan’s defense resilience is understood within the Washington policy community. By highlighting lessons from Ukraine — including civil-military collaboration, open-source innovation, and responses to gray-zone tactics — the event offers alternative frameworks for evaluating preparedness beyond traditional metrics. It will also explore how Taiwan’s technological capacity and civic engagement could serve as key pillars of defense in a future crisis, demonstrating how democratic societies can respond creatively to authoritarian threats. Featuring speakers with expertise in civilian-led drone innovation, wartime supply chains, and China’s military modernization, the discussion offers U.S. policymakers and defense analysts timely insights into how Taiwan’s evolving experience can inform more adaptive and democratic approaches to security.

An unconference is an unstructured conference where attendees determine the agenda. At our unconference, we will determine discussion topics at the start of the event. We will have multiple rounds of discussions, with multiple topics being talked about at any given time. The last round will be reserved for continuation of previous topics.
Please note that the Unconference is intended as a conversation space, not an educational 101 space. Unconference attendees are not here to educate you or to answer your personal curiosity, whether it's questions about (a)sexuality, gender, or anything else.

Sophisticated Simplicity
Our events offer a fresh alternative to speed dating and matchmaking. We don't find anything romantic about whistles, name-tags or over-the-top party trimmings typically found at singles events so we have done away with them. Creating an atmosphere that is at once casual and comfortable. It's what we call cheeky-chic!
Meet a partner to attend concerts, music festivals, bar crawls or fitness classes. Someone who shares your passions and interests - from sports to yoga - all in a setting just your speed.
-
Upon registration, you'll be sent an email inviting you to login to your mobile MyCheekyDate ‘Smart-Card’. As the event begins, login to your scorecard and let the flirting begin. You'll be able to choose whom you fancy meeting again, to what degree you like them and have until midnight to submit your final selections for matching. Once the clock strikes midnight - return to our platform to see your matches. It's where Cheeky meets convenience! You can also access your profile via mobile, tablet or PC. Our platform isn't an app so it requires absolutely no downloading and can be accessed directly from our website, anytime. Paper scorecards are just so 2010!
The night has arrived! Go to the venue at the published start time for the event. There is no official start time to the speed dating portion of the evening - we like to wait for all daters to arrive, to have a moment to settle in with a refreshment and mingle should they wish.
Our personable hosts will assist you with your MyCheekyDate 'Smart-Card’ Scorecard. Flirty and fun, your mobile scorecard is just the beginning. Chat up our Hosts for tips or simply to ask, which direction the bar is in! After being shown to your table, the ladies will remain seated for the duration of the event. The gents move from lovely lady to lovely lady every six to seven minutes. Your mobile scorecard gives you the ability to see all the participants attending your event, upload your picture, make your selections and be notified of your matches all from your phone.
Offering uncompromising value with unparalleled service. Lovely venues and our lovely Hosts to assist you with anything or anyone.
