Board Game Speed Dating - High Street Place - Downtown Boston- (Ages 25-39) | High Street Place Food Hall
Jun 9, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Boston
Searching for a partner can be horrifically painful. But board games are always awesome. So what if you combined board games and finding a partner?
Picture this: You sit down for a night of games. A gaming concierge walks you through several games over the course of the night. You play classics you love and discover brand new games you've never heard of, playing each with a different group of fun singles. All while in a great establishment with plenty of delicious options on tap. At the end of the night, you give your gaming concierge a list of the folks you met that you'd like to date and a list of those you met that you'd like to just hang out with as friends. If any two people put down the same name as each other in either column, then your gaming concierge will make sure you get each other's e-mail address and you can coordinate a time to hang out.
Best case scenario: You find true love, discover some awesome board games, and make some new friends.
Bad case scenario: You accomplish only one of those three things, which is still pretty great.
Worst case scenario: There will be alcohol.
Before you decide to buy tickets, a few basics we should cover:
1) This event is for men & women, ages 25-39. We also have events for gay men and queer women. And we're hoping to add events to serve even more people in the future! Head over to
https://www.quirkevents.com/boston
to see what else we have to offer. (If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you'll be able to join our mailing list and get notified about future events.
Plus, joining our mailing list gets you 50% off your first ticket purchase!)
2) To stay up-to-date on everything we have going on at Quirk Events, follow us on Instagram
here!
3) Refunds are only available to those who cancel with more than 48 hours' notice, in order to make sure we have enough time to find a replacement for you and keep the event well-populated. (Exceptions will be made for emergency situations on a case-by-case basis). After that, we're blowing the money from your ticket sale on something awesome and nonrefundable.
4) If we get to 24 hours before the event and still haven't sold five tickets for each gender, we will cancel the event (and notify you). When we have run this event in the past, tickets have consistently sold very well, so we don't expect this to happen. But we thought we should cover this in case it came up.
5) How many games we have and which ones we use will be based in part on how many people attend, so we can't tell you for sure what we'll have right now. But the goal is for all of them to be fun, light, easy-to-learn games. Selection will include games from both the something-you-have-played-before category and the something-you-haven't-played-before category. The games are also chosen because they often tend to spark conversation and leave room for chatting with new people as you play. All games will be group games, meaning you'll get a chance to meet a handful of people with each new round.

Gradually filled in during the late-nineteenth century, in the 1880s landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. designed a trailblazing park here. The landscaped grounds became an integral site for Bostonians' active and passive recreation and an outlet for West Enders. Light refreshments will be served.

Effective Supervision Part 2 | The NonProfit Center
Jun 12, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Boston
Training Description
Participants must have taken Effective Supervision, Part 1 as a prerequisite for this training.
Successful supervisors start with curiosity and awareness of their own supervisory and communication style, as well as their particular cultural lens. By expanding their view and skillfully shifting these default approaches, they can more fully develop staff and maximize performance.
Learning Objectives
This highly participatory and reflective training takes a deeper look at concepts discussed in TSNE’s Effective Supervision, Part 1.
Participants will:
- Review the four supervisory styles and reflect on ways that adaptive practice has improved and challenged supervisory relationships
- Consider approaches to decision-making as they relate to staff readiness
- Deepen their practice of relationship-building communication skills
- Consider a model of staff performance management and engage in adaptive feedback and communication to address performance issues at all levels
Come prepared to actively participate. BNM Trainings are interactive! We ask that all participants come prepared to engage in discussion, small group work, worksheets, and activities.
Target Audience
Supervisors who have participated in TSNE’s Effective Supervision, Part 1 training and wish to deepen their adaptive practice.
About the Trainer(s)
Joanne Horgan
is a human resources consultant and lead trainer for TSNE. She has worked at TSNE since 1993, serving many roles in the organization’s human resources practice over the years. Joanne has directed the internal HR function and led the HR team in its delivery of services to over 60 fiscally sponsored clients. She has also been providing HR consulting and training for small to mid-sized grassroots, social justice, and other mission-focused nonprofits for over 20 years. Joanne holds a B.A. in organizational psychology and an M.S. in human resources counseling from Northeastern University.
Lyn Freundlich
is the founder and principal consultant at Change for Good Coaching and Consulting. She specializes in leadership development, human resources, and change management as a coach, facilitator, trainer, and consultant. She considers employees an organization’s greatest asset and believes that people choose to work in nonprofits not simply to make a living but to make a difference. As a practitioner, Lyn understands that the human resources function served to protect organizations by ensuring compliance with a host of employment regulations but also to support employees’ effectiveness. She believes that a well-functioning organization walks their talk by treating staff in ways that promote equity and are consistent with their mission and vision. Lyn has over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector working in a range of settings from large, international organizations to small, member-driven, local groups. Most recently she served as the director of administration and human resources for over fifteen years. In 2005, Lyn also launched the human resources training and consulting practice at TSNE. In that capacity, she partnered with hundreds of local and national nonprofits to build human resources systems reflective of each organization’s vision and values, train and support supervisors and other leaders, and provide employee relations coaching and consultation. Lyn is a seasoned trainer, coach, and consultant serving dozens of clients each year. She has a B.A. from Oberlin College and a master’s in organization and management from Antioch University of New England. Lyn is also a Certified Professional Coach. She is proud to have served on numerous boards, including with The City School, a Boston-based nonprofit working with young people across lines of race, class, gender, and neighborhood who are emerging leaders and have a passion for social justice. She also sits on the board of Onward!, a new organization using innovative solutions that harness the power of technology to bring about systems-level change and build power in our most marginalized communities.
