The novel is set in Northern Virginia and as a special treat Liz herself will join halfway through the book club to talk about her process, answer questions about the book, and stay to sign copies. As always, we’ll be making friendship bracelets with Taylor in the background! Please note this is a book club for teens, with parents welcome to purchase a ticket to join the discussion as well. Tickets are $5 to cover material costs. Every participant must purchase a ticket. Mention the book club at the shop or order online and note “book club” to get 10% off! Please reach out to us at events@oldtownbooks.com for reasonable accessibility accommodations. About the book Two years ago, the murder of a neighbor tore three best friends apart--now the killer is going to walk free and the ex-friends are going to have to face the past--and each other--in another twisty thriller from the New York Times bestselling co-author of The Agathas . Grace, Henry, and Ally grew up together on the same block. They used to be best friends--until Grace's testimony put Henry's brother, Jake, away for killing their English teacher. Now, two years later, Ally and Henry hate Grace, and Grace is doubting what she thinks she saw that night.  It feels like everyone's getting a second chance, then, when due to a mistrial, Jake is suddenly released. And Henry knows his brother is innocent, but when Grace reaches out to say she’s rethinking what she saw the night of the murder, Jake’s reaction is confusing. He doesn’t want Henry—or Grace--getting involved. For Ally not getting involved isn’t an option, and there’s nothing Grace can say to convince Ally she’s not the enemy. But can Ally afford to push Grace out when she’s one of the only other people willing to believe in Jake’s innocence?   The clock is ticking. Jake’s new trial date is about to be set, and he's sure to be found guilty again unless there's new evidence to prove he's innocent. Grace, Henry, and Ally are going to have to decide whether you can trust an old friend now that they’re your enemy. Information Source: Old Town Books | eventbrite

The Wines of Southern Italy: A Tasting and Class | Planet Wine

Jun 6, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Alexandria A
Cultural Experiences
The unification of Italy didn't occur until 1861. When considering that much of the wine infastracture in Italy was establised by the Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, this unification can be considered a recent development in the European wine industry. Before it became the Kingdom of Italy, this Mediterranean Penninsula was broken up into separate kingdoms and city-states with their own identities and cultures. Today, even though Italy is one unified country, these regions hold onto their own separate ways of life and agricultural focuses. All regions of Italy produce wine, and the country has more native grape varieties than all other wine producing countries combined! However, the wines you will find in Puglia in the south will be very different than the wines you may find in Veneto up north. For generations, the north has tried to use their geographic closeness to the rest of Europe to establish themselves as the key producers of fine Italian wines. But the south has benefitted from hundreds of years of immigration and foreign influence from Mediterranean trade and conflict to develop a truly diverse wine culture. Additionally, the south has incredible volcanic soils and coastal influences. Many wine experts agree that the southern states of Italy are starting to truly stand out as top European wine producers. In this class, we will talk a bit about the history of Southern Italian wines while tasting through six of our favorite wines from this Mediterranean powerhouse. Included with your ticket: Seated wine class with with Wine Director, Erin Dudley Tasting of six fine Southern Italian wines Small serving of artisanal cheese and bread to accompany your tasting Discounts on bottle purchases of all wines tasted Information Source: Planet Wine Shop | eventbrite

We use that heat to deeply stretch, and we end with a relaxing meditation. Jeneen Piccuirro teaches a gentle, traditional, chakra based hatha yoga class. Her focus is on deep release and relaxation and she favors poses that benefit the nervous system to promote inner calm. Becky Super teaches a Vinyasa style class that welcomes new and experienced students to find balance both on and off the mat. I like a faster paced class, but I know the importance of slowing down to find relaxation and meditation too. Barb Mink earned her 200-hr yoga teacher (RYT) certification in 2018 in the vinyasa format. She’s been practicing for 20* Years and has attended numerous workshops and yoga retreats. Anne teaches a vinyasa style flow class. Flows are designed to be equal parts meditative and fun. Classes are appropriate for students of all levels and appropriate modifications and amplifications are offered. Angie’s classes are a Vinyasa Flow style of Yoga. Vinyasa means “to move with the breath” and in Angie’s classes, the poses are strung together to form one fluid sequence of movement. Moving with your breath, and letting your body flow in new directions, is powerful and nurturing. Angie’s classes focus on connecting the physical movements with the rhythm of the breath while maintaining an awareness of the mindful transitions from one pose to another while also taking time to enjoy each pose in whatever way feels best for each individual body. Each student is invited to make their Vinyasa flow a personal experience to meet their body’s needs. Pose flows can be fast and physically challenging or soft and gentle, a moving meditation, and an opportunity to witness the ways in which the breath holds power over our well-being. The class ends with time in deep relaxation. No prior Yoga experience is necessary and all levels of practice are welcome. Information Source: Carlyle House Historic Park | eventbrite

IN STUDIO - Bridgerton Blooms | Helen Olivia Flowers

Cultural Experiences
We’re so happy to have you in flower class! You'll learn the basics of design from one of our seasoned floral designers. Here’s what you need to know: Each class revolves around a theme or type of flower. For example, ‘Peonies’ or ‘Jewel Toned Blooms’. The images on our website are representative of what a design might look like, but are not exact. In order to get you the most product, we hold off on ordering until a week before class to see what is available at the best price from our wholesalers. In classes that revolve around a certain flower, such as peonies, you can expect to be making a mixed bouquet highlighting that flower. For our IN STUDIO workshops: Each class comes with a bucket full of blooms. We account for breakage and loss in our formulas, so please understand that if you happen to have one or two unusable blooms, there are still more than enough blooms to fill out your arrangement. You will also be provided with your vase, clippers, a list of included blooms, and any hard goods you may need. If something comes up and you are no longer able to take the class, please give us 7 days notice. We’re happy to transfer you into any future workshop or provide a refund. If we are notified less than seven days in advance we may not be able to provide a refund. When parking at the studio, there is street parking, and a small lot down the street that are both free to use and available for attendees Studio doors will open 15 minutes prior to arrival Our workshop space is a cozy fit, so we are unable to accomodate any additional guests who have not purchased a ticket, and unfortunately at this time, children aren't invited to attend. Workshops are an hour to 90 minutes in length - after class is over, we ask that you depart in a timely fashion so our instructor can head home and rest before work the following day. PLEASE NOTE. This is an IN-STUDIO WORKSHOP, starting at 6:30 pm at our studio location in Alexandria, VA. This is not a virtual workshop and no recordings will be available. Cheers to a lovely flower class together! Information Source: Helen Olivia Flowers | eventbrite
