Cultural Experiences
Owning a home is exciting—but also a little overwhelming when you realize you have no idea what anything in the house does. What’s that box in the basement? Why is there a tube sticking out of the wall? And what on earth is a radon mitigation system? Join us for a fun, women-only evening designed to help you actually understand the home you're buying (or just bought). We’ll walk through a real house (shoutout to our contractor for opening up her home!) and break down the basics in a way that makes sense—even if you've never laid eyes on a water heater before. We’ll walk through a real home and cover: What shows up on a home inspection report and what it means Ballpark costs for fixing common issues Understanding electrical panels, water heaters, furnaces, structural issues, radon systems, plumbing systems, window issues, and more And because no one should have to talk about HVAC without bubbles, we’ll be sipping champagne while we learn. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and your girlfriends. You’ll leave with practical knowledge, real-world tips, and the confidence to actually read that inspection report without panic. In-Person Class: Classic French Macarons (Denver) | Cambria Hotel Denver Downtown RiNo

Jul 20, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Denver
Cultural Experiences
Be transported to the whimsical patisseries of Paris as you learn how to create the irresistible classic French Macaron! Don your chef aprons, grab your whisks and lets get baking! In this fun and interactive class, you will learn the fine art to making these mouthwatering morsels that are easy enough to be done in your own kitchen! The classic 'Gerbert' or 'Paris Macaron' is a French meringue-based almond sandwich cookie. The celebrated original tea shop Ladurée on the Champs-Elysees in Paris is given credit for the invention of the classic French-style filled macaroon. However the cookies themselves are thought to have actually originated in Italy during the Renaissance. Their name comes from the Italian word “maccherone” meaning fine dough. Together with our classically trained Pastry Chef Instructor, we will demystify the making of these highly sought-after meringue-based sandwich cookies. Class will take you through a detailed demonstration, before you will be guided step-by-step in replicating the process of meringue mixing, otherwise known as 'macaronage', piping, baking, assembling and most importantly enjoying! We will also explore different filling variations and what it is about these delicate confections that make them so special. No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the baking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing). You will work with other students in groups of 2-4. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, especially if you’re part of a large group. Drinks are available for purchase from the venue and are NOT included in the ticket price. Outside drinks are not allowed. 21+ only. Cultural Experiences
Join us for a cozy, heart-opening evening with a Sacred Cacao Ceremony and Sound Bath! We’ll sip ceremonial cacao to ground, uplift, and open our hearts, then relax into the soothing vibrations of crystal bowls for deep healing and balance. Cacao is known as a “heart medicine” for its ability to foster connection, creativity, and emotional openness. It helps reduce stress, increase focus, and support a deeper relationship with yourself and others. Rich in antioxidants and mood-boosting compounds like magnesium and anandamide, cacao enhances clarity, joy, and a sense of well-being. Sound healing works on a vibrational level to calm the nervous system, release energetic blockages, and restore balance to the body and mind. The frequencies of the crystal bowls align with different chakras, helping to clear stuck emotions and promote deep relaxation. Many people experience profound shifts, insight, and even a meditative dream-like state. Together, cacao and sound create a powerful space for reflection, intention, and transformation. Whether you’re looking for emotional release, a sense of grounding, or just a peaceful evening, this experience is designed to nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Come as you are, this is a safe space. Please arrive 5–10 minutes early and bring a mug for cacao, a journal, and a pen . Yoga mats, blankets, and bolsters will be provided! Summer Series: Breathwork & Sound Journey (Theme: Compassion) | Kalo Fitness

Cultural Experiences
At KALO (Greek for "beauty that is more than skin deep"), we believe that wellness starts from within. In addition to our women's strength training services, we also offer sauna/cold plunge therapy and breathwork to cultivate a foundation of nervous system regulation, deep connection to purpose/legacy, and authentic connection to others. For this special summer breathwork series we will diving into 3 different themes that will guide the breathwork. In last months session we discussed JOY. In this one we'll bring in COMPASSION. Why it's important, how to give it to ourselves and in turn others, and why it's foundational to seeing lasting change. In this session we will cover 3 different types of breathing: 360 breath (the foundational element of all breathwork, and key for health benefits), breath for vagus nerve activation (calms the nervous system), and circular or concious connected breath (too many emotional + physical benefits to list, but we will cover many in class). From there, you will be led through a breathwork journey with music that will incorporate all of these techniques into one beautiful flow. We will end with meditation. No previous breathwork experience is required to attend this session. All levels will benefit, and be encouraged to move at paces that are comfortable. This class will be led by Jourdan Baldwin, KALO Co-Owner, B.S Health & Exericise Science, and breathwork guide with extensive training and mentorship in XPT breathwork, pranayama, Conscious Connected Breathwork, and nervous system regulation via the Polyvagal Theory. Jourdan is also certified in the principles of somatic processing, breath mechanics, and stress physiology in her coaching and facilitation, creating an experience that is both deeply embodied and transformative. Who's this for: This session is for anyone who wants to reconnect with their body, calm their mind, and remember what it feels like to experience real, grounded, peace and compassion. Whether you’re navigating stress, craving more depth and presence, or simply looking to explore breathwork in a welcoming space, this experience is for you. No previous experience is needed, just an open heart and a willingness to breathe. Perfect for anyone seeking personal growth, nervous system regulation, or a moment of embodied peace in the midst of a busy summer. Please bring: blanket, pillow, water bottle and anything else you need to create a comfortable space. Contraindications: Concious Connected breathwork is a powerful practice that can bring about many positive physical, emotional, and psychological shifts. However, it may not be suitable for everyone. Below is a list of potential contraindications where caution or consultation with a healthcare provider is advised before participating in breathwork: Cardiovascular Conditions : Severe hypertension or hypotension, recent heart attack or stroke, arrhythmias or other severe heart condition Respiratory Issues : Severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), severe respiratory disorders Neurological Conditions : Epilepsy or a history of seizures, severe migraines or chronic headaches, recent brain injury or surgery Psychiatric Conditions : Severe anxiety or panic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (unless under professional supervision) Pregnancy : Somatic breathwork can involve intense breathing patterns that may not be safe during pregnancy, especially if there is a history of complications. Eye Conditions : Glaucoma or retinal detachment (due to increased intraocular pressure during intense breathing) Recent Surgeries or Medical Procedures : Particularly abdominal or thoracic surgeries, any surgery with restrictions on exertion or deep breathing Feel free to reach out to us at jourdan@kalofitness.com if you have any personal or specific questions regarding these contraindications. As a rule of thumb, always consult with a healthcare provider before beginning somatic breathwork if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or concerns. Dance Marathons & the Pueblo Revolt with Kambui Olajimi & Karen Roybal Your favorite off-beat lecture series is back at the Holiday Theater! Mixed Taste returns another summer of mismatched magic, where serious topics meet some not-so-serious fun. Each night, two speakers take the stage with back-to-back talks on completely unrelated topics. But the real magic happens when the audience steps in for the Q&A, finding unexpected connections no one saw coming. Hosted by the inimitable Bobby LeFebre, with new speakers, poets, and mash-ups every week, Mixed Taste is the intellectual joyride you didn’t know you needed. Wednesday nights at the Holiday Theater. Doors at 6 PM. Program at 7 PM. Drinks, snacks, and serendipity await. Your Mixed Taste ticket includes admission to MCA Denver anytime before August 24. Simply show your confirmation email at the front desk of the museum. About the Speakers Karen Roybal (the Pueblo Revolt) Karen Roybal is an associate professor of Southwest Studies at Colorado College and an interdisciplinary scholar whose work centers on Chicanx and Latinx literature, borderlands history, and archival studies. She is the author of Archives of Dispossession and co-editor of New Transnational Chicanx Perspectives on Ana Castillo. Her research explores themes of identity, memory, and cultural inheritance across the U.S. Southwest and beyond. Kambui Olajimi (Dance Marathons) Kambui Olujimi is a multidisciplinary artist from Brooklyn whose work explores themes of erasure, memory, and the ineffable through sculpture, video, installation, and performance. His art has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at MoMA, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and Museo Reina Sofía. With a sharp sociopolitical lens and wry humor, Olujimi’s practice challenges perceived inevitabilities and unearths the illusions of collective consciousness.
