The Hive: A 10-Storey Timber Braced Frame with Seismic Dampers | Danish Canadian Club
May 6, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Calgary
Presentation description
Title:
“The Hive: A 10-Storey Timber Braced Frame with Seismic Dampers”
Description:
"The Hive is a 10-Storey timber office building in Vancouver, British Columbia. The structural lateral system comprises timber braced frames around the perimeter and four internal CLT shearwalls. Both the shearwalls and the braces frames are coupled with Tectonus seismic dampers, to dissipate energy during a seismic event. The project design was completed using non-linear time history analysis, and a robust peer review process.
The building is currently regarded as one of the most seismically advanced timber structures in the world. Its pioneering approach of a central pin rocking shearwall concept, coupled with self-centring Tectonus dampers at each end, allows the building to be self-centring with no damage to the compression toe, a strong alternative to post-tensioned rocking shearwalls.
The project is currently in construction with completion slated for late 2025. The superstructure is completed.
The presentation will focus on the design and rationale of the seismic system, the structural testing of gravity connections for drift comparability, and the many lessons learned. Construction and fabrication highlights will also be shared, with a focus on tolerances.

An Evening With Innis & Gunn | Wine and Beyond Signal Hill
May 7, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Calgary
The DNA of Innis & Gunn was alive and well even before the company was founded. It ran through every fibre of our Founder & Master Brewer's being.
Join Neil Innis Sharp, International Head of Marketing, for an evening with Innis & Gunn.
Raised in Edinburgh, and spent his teenage years immersed in the energy of his father’s brewery.
When his brother, Dougal Gunn Sharp, launched Innis & Gunn, introducing a bold new style of cask-matured beer to the world, Neil joined him soon after graduating university, helping to build the brand from the ground up.
One of Neil’s first missions was Canada. As Innis & Gunn’s original brand ambassador, he spent three years on the ground, crossing the country, knocking on pub doors, sampling beer in stores, and building relationships with drinkers, bar owners and retailers. His groundwork helped establish Canada as one of the brand’s most successful and important markets, a position it continues to hold today.
Proudly Scottish, but with a small part of him forever Canadian, Neil continues to champion Innis & Gunn’s mission: to brew remarkable beer and share the best of Scotland with drinkers around the world.
Innis & Gunn stands out in the craft beer market for several reasons: Cask Maturation: They use hand-selected single malt whisky casks to mature their beers, which imparts unique flavors and smoothness. This process adds hints of vanilla, toffee, and oak to their beers. Innovative Flavors: Their beers are known for their rich and balanced flavors, combining notes of orange marmalade, citrus, and a gentle bitterness. Award-Winning Quality: Innis & Gunn has received numerous awards for their beers, highlighting their commitment to quality and innovation. Global Presence: They have a strong international presence, making their unique beers available in over 20 countries.
Perfect for Craft Beer Enthusiasts, Individuals who are passionate about exploring new and unique beer flavors and brewing techniques.

Our “Mastermind Networking” events are designed to provide an incredibly fun and comfortable atmosphere for Calgary’s business owners to connect.
Our Events Provide:
• Effective business conversations and education
• Excellent networking opportunities
• A chance to get out and socialize with like minded entrepreneurs
Within 90 minutes at our events
you will meet more business owners than would ever be possible at a typical networking event.
You will also LEARN VALUABLE BUSINESS STRATEGIES
to help you move forward successfully!
Each of our events has 2 unique business topics which are covered in roundtable discussions with other entrepreneurs.
(We have new topics every month!)
This isn’t your typical “pitch everyone and throw around business cards” event. Not even close! Everything within our events (and our entire Exmerce network) is focused on creating Win/Win outcomes for the business owners involved. You really need to experience it to fully feel the difference!
Who Should Attend This Event?
Exmerce Mastermind Events are an excellent fit for business owners who are interested in creating new contacts and connections, learning new business strategies through interactive conversations, and businesses interested in finding new ways to improve their business (and their intermingled personal lives as well!)
Our events are extremely efficient and provide multiple opportunities to move your business forward more successfully. We trust that if you join us once – you will definitely be back!
Eligibility Rules for This Event:
#1 – Due to extremely high demand for these events and limited capacity (approximately 100 businesses per event), we need to keep seats available for businesses who are the best fit for our network.
Based on this,
multi-level marketing companies and financial advisors/insurance representatives (unless personally invited by our staff) are no longer able to attend
. We request all event attendees to be business owners. Any financial advisors who do not meet these criteria will not be able to attend.
#2 – This event is designed for businesses who believe in HELPING EACH OTHER OUT. Our network is not a good fit for anyone who is only interested in helping themselves. We are community-focused and have an excellent culture within our group of like-minded businesses who try to support each other. So if you are a “run and gun” networker – there are lots of other events to do that! (But please note – there are ZERO requirements to provide referrals at our events either! The relationships built here take care of that naturally!)
Our goal is to provide as much value as possible to the local business community and help everyone move forward successfully. We look forward to seeing you there!

Mind is a CHATTERING & WANDERING box. Chattering means collection of useless thoughts which comes through mind. If you are busy in chattering, your whole energy goes on thinking & end up into dissipating of energy because your mind is full of thoughts just like a clouded sky & you cannot see the sky clearly with cloud because it covers up. Every thought needs energy & if you are wasting your energy for thinking then how you can you create few powerful focus thoughts which comes from emptiness.
The whole purpose of meditation practice is to create
emptiness, hollowness etc
. The right meaning of meditation is sitting and doing nothing but witnessing of all thoughts whatsoever thoughts are coming into this moment. Never try to stop the thoughts but let it come and let it go, we have to witness of it and while witnessing, there is an emptiness of thoughts happen as a result of thoughtless awareness means there is neither positive nor negative thoughts. All thoughts are dissolved. There is a space or gap happens inside as a result of
vacuum formation
in which we release old thoughts energy and pull the fresh thoughts energy from the Universe and it is in autopilot and continuous process which put us in meditative space. We need to alert, aware, and wakeful of whatsoever we are doing. Do not sleep but wake up every moment.
Most of the people live with hate, jealousy, anger, fear, greed, craving etc. and full with it so how can they attract positivity, love, and courage? They cannot, therefore, first of all they have to release it and then they can attract positive emotion by creating a vacuum formation inside. Get rid of all clinging, attachment, and desires and then you can find the grace of God or higher power because you are empty from inside. Can you add water in full cup? You cannot, first of all you have to empty it and then you can add water.
It also happens when we go to nature and there is recharging of battery takes place in which old energy is getting released and pulling the fresh energy. It happens commonly with us in day to day life also when we are holding old thoughts energy and not releasing it therefore we are not attracting the right people, right friends, and right things around us and moreover we are giving power, attention, and energy to old thoughts, so first of all we need to release old thought energy and create a vacuum formation inside us by creating a space in order to attract fresh energy.
Thoughts of Discovery
When we create a
nothingness
inside, a powerful and wonderful thoughts pop in from unknown, empty, and beyond space and therefore most of the discoveries happen on the bank of ocean, water, mountain etc. because you live with pure awareness and relax state same as when we wake up early in the morning with deep relaxation and powerful thoughts pops in our mind but whole night we gone for sleep.
Madam Curie wanted to discover something and she put lots of effort and hard work for it but nothing has happened. One night she woke for few seconds and wrote down name (radium and polonium) on the paper and again she slept and it was the discovery in next morning. But remember a thought of discovery or innovation come from hard work too. Lesson is that we need to connect with nature for deep relaxation and then work hard.
Most of the people are living in the dream, goal, ambition etc. and putting lots of hard work and struggle in order to get success but they are creating illusion and separation by wasting their time and energy because they are separating from present moment awareness so how can they live in peace, love, and relaxation by living in the future? They cannot. The more you struggle the more ego kicks in and separate us from the higher self. We need to live here and now and connect with it. Everything comes to you but relax and deeply relax.
Whatsoever things are empty in nature, it always carries the greatest power. Water is empty and transparent in nature and therefore it can heal us moreover it carries the negative ion as well and the more we maintain the content of water inside us the better the health is. Sky is witnessing of everything whatsoever things are happening under it. Clouds appear and disappear but sky is always there in the same way we come in this life for few years and die but sky is witness of everything. Sun and moon are totally empty in nature therefore it carries the maximum power.
Kids live from moment to moment because they live with no mind state or pure present state which is beyond words, actions, and thoughts and they are highly aware, awaken, and innocent.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Experience the Transformation - Learn Better Boundaries
At Create The Love, we believe relationships are at the heart of every meaningful aspect of life. Whether with a partner, family, friends, colleagues, or even yourself, understanding how to build and nurture healthy connections can transform your well-being and happiness.
Yet, too often, we aren't taught the foundational skills that allow us to thrive—
especially when it comes to setting and respecting boundaries.
Without clear boundaries, we can lose touch with our needs, experience resentment, and struggle to communicate effectively. Learning how to define your limits with clarity and compassion isn’t just empowering—it’s essential for building trust, reducing conflict, and maintaining authentic connection.
This immersive event explores the powerful role boundaries play in shaping healthy relationship dynamics. Through Mark’s signature blend of science-backed wisdom and heartfelt authenticity, you’ll gain practical tools for honoring your truth, holding space for others, and creating deeper connection—all within a supportive and growth-minded community.
