For 50 years, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” has delighted audiences, and the Varsity is the new home for the film in Southern Illinois. Every screening will feature a “shadow cast” of the film. A shadow cast features performers acting in front of the screen during the film, performed by Varsity’s own in-house cast! The first event is April 11. Doors and the Varsity Bar open at 11 on April 11 with the show at midnight. This notorious horror parody – a fast-paced potpourri of camp, sci-fi and rock ‘n’ roll, among other things -- tracks the exploits of naïve couple Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) after they stumble upon the lair of transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry). The 1975 film -- a bizarre musical co-starring Meat Loaf and Richard O’Brien -- bombed in its initial release but later gained a cult following at midnight showings. We welcome all RHPS virgins, but please don’t act like one! Do not throw objects at the screen; that’s just not cool and can damage a very expensive screen. The Young Alumni Group of the SIU Alumni Association invites fellow Salukis to join them on the Shawnee Wine Trail on Saturday, May 3 for the 2nd Annual Salukis & Sips event. This gathering will be a wine bus tour featuring stops at several Southern Illinois wineries. Ticket prices include the bus ride and appetizers at each stop. Wine will need to be purchased individually. The group is set to meet at 12:30 p.m. in Lot 56 of the Banterra Center on the SIU Carbondale campus.
