Welcome to Slow Boring & Steady Habits! Date: Monday, September 15, 2025 Time: 6:00 PM Location: BAR Greetings all pedants, neolib shills, screechy progressives, and all of those in-between lucky enough to call the Nutmeg State home. Organizing a Slow Boring happy hour coinciding with YIMBY Town 2025 taking place in New Haven this year. Come on down to put faces to the tedious commenters you've been lovingly arguing with for the last (almost) five years every morning. Who knows, if this gets momentum and our boy Matt pokes a few bigwigs attending YIMBY Town to show up it could really get rocking. If crowd becomes a problem (and what a good problem to have, wouldn't that be folks?) we are ideally situated in downtown New Haven for excellent bar hopping. See you there! Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Whether touring as a 'Duo' or with his 'Acoustic Group' or his 'Large Band,' Lovett's live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend's deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music's most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana Music Association's inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was named Texas State Musician. His works, rich and eclectic, are some of the most beloved of any artist working today. This event is General Admission Standing Room on the Floor, and Reserved Seated in the Balcony. DESCENDENTS Since first emerging from (and defining) the Southern California pop-punk scene in 1978, the legendary Descendents have released classic after classic, from their landmark 1982 LP Milo Goes to College to 2016's Hypercaffium Spazzinate . Now, after issuing a flurry of singles to get fans through the past few years, the band — Milo Aukerman (vocals), Bill Stevenson (drums), Stephen Egerton (guitar), and Karl Alvarez (bass) — will be touring in support of a new album. With a very cool twist. What started with Milo Goes to College now comes full circle on the blistering 9th & Walnut (Epitaph), a "lost album" quietly recorded in 2002 by the MGTC lineup of Stevenson, Aukerman, Tony Lombardo on bass, and Frank Navetta (d. 2008) on guitar. Audiences should be geared up for shows featuring songs spanning Descendents' incredible career, from "Suburban Home" and "Silly Girl" to "I'm the One" and "Without Love," and including 9th & Walnut tracks like first single "Baby Doncha Know" and its incendiary follow-up, "Nightage." Links: Official Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Spotify TEEN MORTGAGE Washington DC’s Teen Mortgage climbed from the city’s primordial punk soup in 2017 after guitarist/vocalist James Guile relocated to the nation's capital from Liverpool, UK and by a stroke of luck was quickly able to find hard hitting drummer Ed Barkauskas via a desperate craigslist post. As a two piece they stood out - crossbreeding east coast hardcore aggression and garage/surf sleaze with a focus on pop sensibility. This sonic blend perfectly set the scene for vocalist and guitarist James Guile to illustrate what he describes as “the absurdity of living in the era of late stage capitalism and tech feudalism”. He adds, “it’s even woven into our name, like Mortgage in latin means ‘death pledge’” Teen Mortgage’s acerbic intensity was noticed by Brooklyn, NY label King Pizza Records, who released the duo’s 2019 EP Life/Death and 2021’s Smoked . Songs from the EPs earned Teen Mortgage placements with Shameless , Vans Park Series, and Evil Bikes and support slots with notable bands like The Chats, Mike Krol, Bass Drum Of Death, Jeff The Brotherhood, etc. Known for their rowdy live shows, Teen Mortgage detonates a sonic bomb that leaves no room for apathy, let alone time to breathe. Guile's caustic riffs and sneer paired with Barakauskas's brawn have fostered a new established meeting ground for those looking for a place to mosh. Their DIY headline national tours have seen crowd members become rabid as soon as the pair kick in the first riff of the set, like a pack of coyotes chasing down their prey. The group's infectious fuzz bonded with Jello Biafra and George Carlin inspired lyrics ignite audiences into a primal frenzy, sweating out the drudgery of living through, once again in Guile's words, "the era of late stage capitalism and tech feudalism". “These guys have got it going on” - Iggy Pop, BBC6’s The Confidential Show Links: Official Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Spotify LIQUID MIKE Liquid Mike is an indie power pop rock band from Marquette, MI, in the Upper Peninsula. Liquid Mike began in 2021 and is the product of Mike Maple’s pop-rock song writing. The band features a cast of U.P. standouts including Monica Nelson, Dave Daignault, Zack Alworden, Cody Marecek. Liquid Mike inhabits a sweet spot in the musical pantheon: catchy, well- crafted guitar and vocal hooks that will snag any fan of power-pop/pop rock. Liquid Mike invokes a relatable feeling of nostalgia with everyday lyrics of the quickly-receding flavor of Big League Chew bubblegum, drinking beer from used marinara sauce jars in college, and every 4th hand rust-bucket of a car you ever drove in a Great Lakes snowstorm. They self- released their fifth LP, “Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot” on Feb 2nd 2024. Links: Instagram | Twitter | Spotify Information Source: College Street Music Hall | eventbrite

Arts Fine Art
With a theme like Mind, Body, and Spirit, he can really express what he's been through — the physical struggle, the emotional impact, and the inner strength that helped him heal. MIND:His thoughts, fears, dreams, and hopes during his hardest moments. BODY:His physical journey — from wheelchair to walking, and how his body changed. SPIRIT:His inner strength, joy, courage, and growth. This collection of work is the visual journey of Ayden T. Parker, a 10-year-old artist who has lived a story many adults never face. In 2022, he was diagnosed with AMPS (Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome), a condition that disrupted the connection between his brain and body, making something as simple as walking a daily struggle. But while his legs paused, his spirit did not. Through art, he found movement, expression, and healing. Each drawing tells a piece of his story-of frustration, resilience, faith, and hope. From abstract depictions of pain to vibrant expressions of recovery, these pieces are more than pictures-they are footprints on a path back to strength. Concerts Reggae
This event is General Admission Standing Room on the Floor, and Reserved Seated in the Balcony. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the AFUWI Scholarship Fund. BERES HAMMOND Don’t be deceived by Beres Hammond’s cool profile. The playful smile, the unassuming demeanor, the beard and the cap and the spectacles might lull you into forgetting that you’re in the presence of an awesome musical talent, Jamaica’s greatest practicing singer/songwriter. Beres remains cool, though he knows that he’s one of a handful of people responsible for maintaining a mighty legacy of soulful reggae music—a select group of artists like Toots and Gregory, like Dennis and Bob. “Father bless me with a song,” he pleads on the last cut of his latest album, Music Is Life, “to make the whole world sing along. Regardless of the race, regardless of the taste.” In the year 2021, the blessings just keep coming, and the world is just starting to catch on. Over the course of five decade career, Beres has poured his smoky-sweet voice—an instrument of subtlety and power reminiscent of an Otis Redding or a Teddy Pendergrass—over every kind of riddim track, from the funked-up reggae jams of the ’70s fusion band Zap Pow to the lush instrumentation of his 1976 album Soul Reggae to the spare digital beat of his 1985 dancehall breakthrough “What One Dance Can Do.” In 1990, his album A Love Affair for Donovan Germaine’s Penthouse label raised his popularity to new heights. Cuts like “Tempted To Touch” and “Who Say” with Buju Banton are still as effective in the dancehall today as they were as pre-releases. The ’90s proved to be Hammond’s decade, during which he blazed a trail of modern classics for a variety of producers, from the strugglers’ anthem “Putting Up Resistance” (Tappa) to lovers’ laments like “Come Back Home” (Star Trail) and “Double Trouble” (Steely & Clevie). Beres started building his home studio in the early ’90s, before it became the trend among successful reggae artists to take over their own production duties. But his spontaneous method of composing, and his unwillingness to compromise, made a home studio the natural choice. Although the trend of self-production as a whole has, at times, diluted the quality of music coming from isolated individuals poking at computer keyboards, Beres’s little music room attracts a steady stream of Jamaica’s most talented musicians. “The room have a sound,” he says of his simple but effective analog sound lab. “Some of them say it remind them of the old days at Channel One.” Ace session bands like the Roots Radics, drummers like Sly Dunbar, hornsmen like Dean Fraser, and a variety of talented singers and deejays, both veterans and up-and-comers—all come to “hold a joy”, play a game of Ludi, share a smoke and a laugh, and to make music together. “When they go in my studio, they don’t want to come out,” Beres explains with humorous understatement. But he knows all too well that the survival of classical reggae music depends on such oases of creativity. “We a try bring back the golden days of the Seventies, when reggae had the live drums and horn sections.” The rub-a-dub groove of his smash single “They Gonna Talk” (track two on Music Is Life) was recorded right there in the home studio by Flabba Holt and Style Scott of the legendary Roots Radics, whose riddims are clearly as powerful today as when they were the backing band for giants like Gregory Isaacs. No computer can rock quite as steady as these veteran musicians. “I personally don’t believe in a whole heap of technology business,” says Beres. “It’s all about what you have to offer. As long as your vibes is there, that’s what the people feel.” Beres’s sophisticated musical taste is well suited to translate easily across cultural divides, yet the international reggae massive has remained his most loyal fan base. He did collaborate on Maxi Priest’s first American hit, “How Can We Ease The Pain,” in 1990. A brief encounter with Elektra Records in 1994 yielded the excellent but under-appreciated album In Control with its R&B-flavored single “No Disturb Sign.” In 2002, the album Music Is Life was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. The album contained two of what would become Hammond’s top songs, “Rock Away” and “They Gonna Talk.” The album was supported by a sold-out concert at New York City’s storied Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center on April 21, 2001. The album A Moment In Time, released in 2008, and One Love, One Life, released in 2014, respectively, topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, with “I Feel Good” and “In My Arms” becoming the standout tracks from each album. One Love, One Life was nominated for the 56th Grammy Award. In 2018, the album Never Ending, debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Chart again and was also number one on iTunes Reggae Chart in the US, UK and Japan, lodging another hit song “My Kinda Girl” among his career standouts. On February 28, 2021, Harmony House and VP Records presented Love From A Distance Live, a streaming event for Hammond’s global fanbase during the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine. The event, featuring special guest appearances by Buju Banton, Marcia Griffiths, and Popcaan, drew over 120,000 viewers from around the world and resonated as one of the great achievements of his long and storied career. This event is General Admission Standing Room on the Floor, and Reserved Seated in the Balcony. $1 per ticket will go to The Marina Fund, which supports LGBTQ+ individuals and civilians affected by conflict by funding community-led organizations that provide life-affirming services, mental health care, and humanitarian relief. MARINA MARINA returns transformed on PRINCESS OF POWER — a euphoric, high-energy exploration of healing, empowerment, and self-reclamation. Written during a period of deep personal reflection, the album marks a turning point for the platinum-selling artist. Where 2021’s Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land looked outward at a fractured world, PRINCESS OF POWER turns inward, embracing vulnerability as strength, turning pain into power and the radical optimism of love. Now releasing independently through her own label, Queenie Records, in partnership with BMG, MARINA sheds old expectations and fully steps into her own. The album pulses with disco-lit electro pop and lyrical declarations of freedom, feminine energy, and love. Tracks like “BUTTERFLY,” “CUPID’S GIRL,” and “CUNTISSIMO” reflect a woman reborn and thriving on her own terms. EVIL DEAD IN CONCERT Evil Dead In Concert, a live-to-film experience that thrills and chills, resurrects Sam Raimi’s beloved cult classic in a way audiences have never seen before -- in this lifetime. The legendary film will be screened in a newly restored format and brought to life on stage while a live ensemble performs the entire revamped original musical score from composer Joe LoDuca. LoDuca began his film career by composing this iconic score for director Sam Raimi, and went on to win multiple Emmys for his scoring work. Most recently, Joe released a reimagining and re-recording of the original Evil Dead score called “Evil Dead: A Nightmare Reimagined,” where he re-recorded and expanded on the original musical themes of the movie. Evil Dead follows five college students on vacation in an isolated cabin in the woods, where they unwittingly release absolute evil into the world and have to fight to survive. This indie classic is known as one of the most significant cult horror films of all time, and has generated a massive following worldwide since its release. For months, the local pub was home to a run-of-the-mill trivia game. Until one night, it was home to a murder! A local player dropped dead in this otherwise friendly battle of wits, and the game hasn't run again since... until tonight. Tonight, we're enlisting your help to solve this mystery the only way we know how: Through a game of pub trivia. Each round, your group will answer trivia questions, which will, in turn, unlock details of the murder, uncover backstories and ultimately answer the greatest question of them all: Whodunnit? So form a team with your sleuthiest friends and see if you can solve The Case of The Quiz Night Killer! Please note: This is not a theatrical production featuring actors or audience roles or some of the other staples of a murder mystery production, rather this is a trivia game with a murder mystery puzzle interwoven. A few other items of note... --------- 1) We have run this game elsewhere in New England as "Pub Trivia Murder Mystery Challenge: The Case of the Poisoned Patron". They are both the same game, featuring the same key elements and questions, so we'd ask players not to sign up for more than one event. However, for those of you dying to play again, we have good news: If this continues to get as good a reaction as it has so far, we plan to do a new mystery later this year. If you click the "upcoming events" tab at www.quirkevents.com , and choose the city of your choice, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you'll be able to join our mailing list and get notified about future events. Plus, joining our mailing list gets you 50% off your first ticket purchase! 2) Refunds are only available to those who cancel with more than 48 hours' notice. After that, we're blowing the money from your ticket sale on something extravagant and nonrefundable. 3) To stay up to date on everything we have going on at Quirk Events, follow us on Instagram here! MAYDAY PARADE Mayday Parade – vocalist Derek Sanders, drummer/vocalist Jake Bundrick, guitarists Alex Garcia and Brooks Betts and bassist/vocalist Jeremy Lenzo – will be celebrating 20 years together in 2025. As they welcome this career milestone, the Tallahassee, Florida, five-piece is set to release perhaps their most aspirational and ambitious effort yet: a three-part album showcasing their prolific, emotionally resonant songwriting. The first entry, Sweet , arrives April 18, 2025, and is led by the effervescent bounce of “By The Way,” a pitch-perfect blend of what’s made Mayday Parade a genre mainstay for decades: a tender, piano-led groove ultimately giving way to a crush of stereo guitars, ascendent melodies, and heart-on-sleeve lyricism. “Being in a band for this long, sometimes you feel like you’re getting it right and sometimes you feel like you’re dancing around what you should be doing. This song feels locked in as a step in the right direction. It’s a song about trying to stay optimistic as the world and everything you know is changing around you. We hope you all enjoy it.” – Derek Sanders on “By The Way” Sweet succinctly showcases just how far Mayday Parade has come in the past two decades featuring the trademark sound that’s transformed them from genre newcomers to torchbearers for a new generation. Recorded with longtime producers, multiplatinum engineers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount (All Time Low, Jimmy Eat World), the trilogy of releases will serve as Mayday Parade’s eight full-length studio album and first LP since 2021’s What It Means To Fall Apart . The new three-part album is also the band’s first self-released collection since 2006’s Tales Told By Dead Friends EP that Mayday Parade sold in parking lots across the country as they followed that year’s Vans Warped Tour. “Being a band for 20 years feels big and we wanted to do something big to match that. Our next release will be a large album split up into three different parts. It feels like a challenge and an exciting step forward for the band. Our goal is to take the things we’ve learned and the ways we’ve grown and apply them towards an ambitious release. We’re incredibly thankful for the opportunity to continue to create music and we cannot wait to share Part 1 - titled ‘Sweet’ - with the world.” – Derek Sanders on Sweet Since first forming in 2005 Mayday Parade has graced the covers of Alternative Press and Rock Sound , been featured in Rolling Stone , Billboard , and Kerrang , twice headlined Sad Summer Festival (a festival they co-founded six years ago), performed as a feature act at 2024’s When We Were Young festival, and are already announced for this year’s event in Las Vegas on October 18th. They’ve also been a featured act at Riot Fest and Slam Dunk, done numerous headline tours as well as support slots and just last year Mayday Parade’s Derek Sanders joined Dashboard Confessional’s “Emo SuperJam” at Bonnaroo Music & Art Festival. As one of the most enduring acts to rise from the underground in the mid-aughts, Mayday Parade has soundtracked both adolescence and adulthood for millions of listeners. Their music stands synonymous with the emo and pop-punk genres: 2007’s A Lesson In Romantics , their debut LP is gold certified and has been hailed as one of the best – and most influential – emo albums of all time by Alternative Press . Monsters In The Closet , their 2013 release, debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, and tracks like the platinum-selling “Jamie All Over,” gold-certified “Miserable At Best” and “Oh Well, Oh Well” represent not only widespread commercial acclaim, but the sort of artist-audience relationship that’s fortified them across changing musical landscapes and the ebb and flow of an unforgiving industry. Now, with Sweet set to launch and the project’s remaining two releases waiting in the wings later this year and into 2026, it’s undoubtedly a good time to be a Mayday Parade fan. The only thing better? Being in Mayday Parade these days, riding high on a renewed sense of confidence, clarity and creativity that acts rarely feel this far into a career. Fans can hear “By The Way” and “Pretty Good To Feel Something” (released last summer) now and look for tour dates and more new music in the weeks leading up to the April 18th release. Links: Official Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Spotify MICROWAVE From start to finish, Let’s Start Degeneracy marks a liberated new chapter for Microwave, one unbound by realities other than their own. Recorded between Atlanta and Nashville and later mixed by Josh Wilbur (Korn, Bad Religion) and mastered by Brad Blackwood (Maroon 5, Lamb of God), the long-awaited fourth full-length record from Microwave, is a trip. Its title, taken from a conservative politician's take on drugs in 1970, captures the band's newfound liberated spirit, and its tracks play by no one's rules but their own. At various points the Atlanta trio of vocalist/guitarist Nathan Hardy, bassist Tyler Hill, and drummer Timothy “Tito” Pittard pull together a multitude of influences ranging from ambient pop and R&B to psychedelia and yes, even Sublime. Lyrically, Let's Start Degeneracy is loaded with revelations, some of which came to Hardy after experiences with ayahuasca in Peru with Tito. As the pandemic wound down, the two reconvened with bassist/vocalist Tyler Hill and together, found their way back to being Microwave again. “It’s about letting go of attachments and behaviors that aren’t serving you and trying to shake off your programming and not be motivated by fear and guilt and shame,” says Hardy. “It’s about learning to be happy and take care of yourself.” Links: Official Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Spotify GRAYSCALE A rock band from Philly. Established in 2005, the Simple Plan Foundation focuses on helping young people in need and showcasing the power of music as a tool to find purpose and direction in life. Since its inception the Simple Plan Foundation has donated over $2M to various charitable causes in Canada and has been awarded many prestigious distinctions for its philanthropic work. SIMPLE PLAN From their new millennium rise to MTV superstardom through pop-punk’s modern resurgence, SIMPLE PLAN have been an indelible part of pop culture since forming in Montreal in 1999. They’ve sold 10 million albums worldwide, won multiple Juno Awards, performed at the 2010 Winter Olympics – and, most recently, launched the omnipresent #ImJustAKid TikTok challenge that’s spawned more than 3.4 million videos, including clips from Hilary Duff, Ed Sheeran, Usher and Venus and Serena Williams. HARDER THAN IT LOOKS is the first self-released album from drummer Chuck Comeau, vocalist Pierre Bouvier and guitarists Sébastien Lefebvre and Jeff Stinco. The album respects Simple Plan’s storied career while pushing forward in new ways, with songs like “The Antidote,” “Ruin My Life” (ft. Deryck Whibley), “Congratulations,” "Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare's Over)" and "Iconic" set to stand as fan favourites for years to come. “It’s amazingly complex to be in a band for 20-plus years, to keep going, stay relevant and manage all the challenges that come your way,” Bouvier says. “It’s the furthest thing from a ‘simple plan’ – it’s truly a lot harder than it looks. Throughout our career, it’s taken a while to be mature enough to understand that our sound is an asset, not a liability. On this album we said: ‘Let’s just embrace who we are and not be afraid to do what we do best.’ Making a good Simple Plan record is just as hard as making something off the beaten path. Links: Official Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Spotify WINONA FIGHTER Nashville-based Winona Fighter is breathing new life into the resurging punk scene. Recently signed to Rise Records, they are on a mission to create punk music that is accessible and accepting to all music lovers willing to listen. This mission statement is exemplified by latest single "I'm In The Market To Please No One", a sonic kick in the face with an earworm chorus and empowered lyrical content and delivery. Coco’s (front-woman of Winona Fighter) introduction to the Boston punk rock scene at an early age was the catalyst influence for her sound and stage presence. Moving to Nashville gave her a task to expose music lovers to the power of thrashable tunes. After recruiting lead guitarist Dan Fuson, they set off to do justice to the scene Coco had left behind, eventually adding Austin Luther (bass/producer) to the family. The release of “I’m In The Market To Please No One” saw the band deliver their first proper music video. The song received major support from DSPs including placements with covers on ‘All New Punk’ and ‘New Noise’ playlists. The band is recognized as an energized powerhouse during their live performances. Their shows are a space where all bullshit and ego is left at the door - all are welcome, equal and need to get on their fucking feet. They’re not slowing down in 2024 with 10 shows at SXSW and a US tour with Bayside, Finch and Armor For Sleep. The band will also hit festival stages again for Shaky Knees, Louder Than Life and Aftershock Festival.
