Welcome to Slow Boring & Steady Habits!
Date:
Monday, September 15, 2025
Time:
6:00 PM
Location:
BAR
Greetings all pedants, neolib shills, screechy progressives, and all of those in-between lucky enough to call the Nutmeg State home. Organizing a Slow Boring happy hour coinciding with YIMBY Town 2025 taking place in New Haven this year. Come on down to put faces to the tedious commenters you've been lovingly arguing with for the last (almost) five years every morning. Who knows, if this gets momentum and our boy Matt pokes a few bigwigs attending YIMBY Town to show up it could really get rocking. If crowd becomes a problem (and what a good problem to have, wouldn't that be folks?) we are ideally situated in downtown New Haven for excellent bar hopping. See you there!

Hyaluron Pen Certification
Do you want to be the first in your business, salon or spa to offer this amazing service to your clients? Get ready to train on this course and take your career to the next level!
What Is A Hyaluron Pen?
Simply put, The Pen is the future. It allows anyone with the proper training to provide their clients with a Hyaluronic Acid Treatment. This can be done on lips, deep lines and provides a revitalization treatment for the face. HA forms a super hydrating net over the skin and delivers water to parched skin over time. Hyaluronic Acid is known to have an amazing water-binding capacity, making it ideal for skin hydration and that means the skin is continuously hydrated, plump and healthy.
HA TREATMENTS ARE NOW A REALITY THANKS TO ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY. USING HYALURONIC ACID BASED PRODUCTS, OUR CUTTING EDGE TECHNIQUE CAN TRANSFORM YOUR SERVICES YOU OFFER TO YOUR CLIENTS.
What is involved in the procedure?
The procedure is quite simple and the HA used is safe as the human body produces the exact same acid, it is pretty impossible that anyone would get any sort of allergic reaction or complication from the HA itself. The more Hyaluronic Acid there is inside the Epidermis layer of the skin, the more water is retained keeping its moisture and making the appearance of the skin more youthful.
Hyaluron Pen … applies HA.
How much can you charge for the procedure?
Based on your state, area of location and techniques you do. Minimum price to charge as a New Technician is $300 and as you become skilled in your craft you can charge up to $500 for 1 ml of Hyaluronic Acid. This is great for 30 minutes of work! This is a great return on investment. You can get back what you have invested in your training quickly!

5 hair Extension Method
s which are:
Microlink using I Tips
hair extensions are also known as microbeading hair extensions or micro loop hair extensions. These are applied by attaching tiny wefts of hair, to small sections of the natural hair with a small silicone-lined bead. Then, a special tool is used to secure the bead to the hair and tightened to hold it.
Braidless Sew In
a technique that is used to create a sew in without having to braid the hair.
Fusion U Tips
is a type of human hair extensions that is shaped like a U and is applied to the hair by heating up, it is also called Hot Fusion hair extensions. U Tip hair extensions are long term hair extensions that you wear day and night for several months.
Tape Ins
are pre-taped and then taped/glued together with a piece of natural hair in between.
Brazilian Knots
is composed of hair that is sewn onto a horizontal strip, or weft. Stylists can “sew” the weft into your hair by pairing small portions of the extension’s strands with small batches of your own strands and securing it with a bead at the “roots.
Proper education should come from an actual extension artist with behind-the-chair, real-life years of experience. At the School of Glamology, you’ll be trained by real hair extension artists, and get hands-on education that you seek.
Our instructors will share all of their coveted secrets about hair extensions and why it’s important to be more educated than your competition. Along with technical skills, you will learn how to build a successful hair extension business from the guest consultation to the after home care, and most importantly, the marketing and promotion of hair extension services.

Pub Trivia Murder Mystery Challenge: The Case of the Quiz Night Killer | East Rock Brewing Company & Beer Hall
Apr 29, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New Haven
For months, the local pub was home to a run-of-the-mill trivia game. Until one night, it was home to a murder! A local player dropped dead in this otherwise friendly battle of wits, and the game hasn't run again since... until tonight.
Tonight, we're enlisting your help to solve this mystery the only way we know how: Through a game of pub trivia. Each round, your group will answer trivia questions, which will, in turn, unlock details of the murder, uncover backstories and ultimately answer the greatest question of them all: Whodunnit?
So form a team with your sleuthiest friends and see if you can solve The Case of The Quiz Night Killer!
Please note: This is not a theatrical production featuring actors or audience roles or some of the other staples of a murder mystery production, rather this is a trivia game with a murder mystery puzzle interwoven.
A few other items of note...
---------
1)
We have run this game elsewhere in New England as "Pub Trivia Murder Mystery Challenge: The Case of the Poisoned Patron". They are both the same game, featuring the same key elements and questions, so we'd ask players not to sign up for more than one event.
However, for those of you dying to play again, we have good news: If this continues to get as good a reaction as it has so far, we plan to do a new mystery later this year. If you click the "upcoming events" tab at
www.quirkevents.com
, and choose the city of your choice, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you'll be able to join our mailing list and get notified about future events.
Plus, joining our mailing list gets you 50% off your first ticket purchase!
2) Refunds are only available to those who cancel with more than 48 hours' notice. After that, we're blowing the money from your ticket sale on something extravagant and nonrefundable.

MAYDAY PARADE
Mayday Parade – vocalist Derek Sanders, drummer/vocalist Jake Bundrick, guitarists Alex Garcia and Brooks Betts and bassist/vocalist Jeremy Lenzo – will be celebrating 20 years together in 2025. As they welcome this career milestone, the Tallahassee, Florida, five-piece is set to release perhaps their most aspirational and ambitious effort yet: a three-part album showcasing their prolific, emotionally resonant songwriting. The first entry,
Sweet
, arrives April 18, 2025, and is led by the effervescent bounce of “By The Way,” a pitch-perfect blend of what’s made Mayday Parade a genre mainstay for decades: a tender, piano-led groove ultimately giving way to a crush of stereo guitars, ascendent melodies, and heart-on-sleeve lyricism.
“Being in a band for this long, sometimes you feel like you’re getting it right and sometimes you feel like you’re dancing around what you should be doing. This song feels locked in as a step in the right direction. It’s a song about trying to stay optimistic as the world and everything you know is changing around you. We hope you all enjoy it.”
– Derek Sanders on “By The Way”
Sweet
succinctly showcases just how far Mayday Parade has come in the past two decades featuring the trademark sound that’s transformed them from genre newcomers to torchbearers for a new generation. Recorded with longtime producers, multiplatinum engineers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount (All Time Low, Jimmy Eat World), the trilogy of releases will serve as Mayday Parade’s eight full-length studio album and first LP since 2021’s
What It Means To Fall Apart
. The new three-part album is also the band’s first self-released collection since 2006’s
Tales Told By Dead Friends
EP that Mayday Parade sold in parking lots across the country as they followed that year’s Vans Warped Tour.
“Being a band for 20 years feels big and we wanted to do something big to match that. Our next release will be a large album split up into three different parts. It feels like a challenge and an exciting step forward for the band. Our goal is to take the things we’ve learned and the ways we’ve grown and apply them towards an ambitious release. We’re incredibly thankful for the opportunity to continue to create music and we cannot wait to share Part 1 - titled ‘Sweet’ - with the world.”
– Derek Sanders on
Sweet
Since first forming in 2005 Mayday Parade has graced the covers of
Alternative Press
and
Rock Sound
, been featured in
Rolling Stone
,
Billboard
, and
Kerrang
, twice headlined Sad Summer Festival (a festival they co-founded six years ago), performed as a feature act at 2024’s When We Were Young festival, and are already announced for this year’s event in Las Vegas on October 18th. They’ve also been a featured act at Riot Fest and Slam Dunk, done numerous headline tours as well as support slots and just last year Mayday Parade’s Derek Sanders joined Dashboard Confessional’s “Emo SuperJam” at Bonnaroo Music & Art Festival.
As one of the most enduring acts to rise from the underground in the mid-aughts, Mayday Parade has soundtracked both adolescence and adulthood for millions of listeners. Their music stands synonymous with the emo and pop-punk genres: 2007’s
A Lesson In Romantics
, their debut LP is gold certified and has been hailed as one of the best – and most influential – emo albums of all time by
Alternative Press
.
Monsters In The Closet
, their 2013 release, debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, and tracks like the platinum-selling “Jamie All Over,” gold-certified “Miserable At Best” and “Oh Well, Oh Well” represent not only widespread commercial acclaim, but the sort of artist-audience relationship that’s fortified them across changing musical landscapes and the ebb and flow of an unforgiving industry.
Now, with
Sweet
set to launch and the project’s remaining two releases waiting in the wings later this year and into 2026, it’s undoubtedly a good time to be a Mayday Parade fan. The only thing better? Being
in
Mayday Parade these days, riding high on a renewed sense of confidence, clarity and creativity that acts rarely feel this far into a career. Fans can hear “By The Way” and “Pretty Good To Feel Something” (released last summer) now and look for tour dates and more new music in the weeks leading up to the April 18th release.

MICROWAVE
From start to finish, Let’s Start Degeneracy marks a liberated new chapter for Microwave, one unbound by realities other than their own. Recorded between Atlanta and Nashville and later mixed by Josh Wilbur (Korn, Bad Religion) and mastered by Brad Blackwood (Maroon 5, Lamb of God), the long-awaited fourth full-length record from Microwave, is a trip. Its title, taken from a conservative politician's take on drugs in 1970, captures the band's newfound liberated spirit, and its tracks play by no one's rules but their own. At various points the Atlanta trio of vocalist/guitarist Nathan Hardy, bassist Tyler Hill, and drummer Timothy “Tito” Pittard pull together a multitude of influences ranging from ambient pop and R&B to psychedelia and yes, even Sublime.
Lyrically, Let's Start Degeneracy is loaded with revelations, some of which came to Hardy after experiences with ayahuasca in Peru with Tito. As the pandemic wound down, the two reconvened with bassist/vocalist Tyler Hill and together, found their way back to being Microwave again.
“It’s about letting go of attachments and behaviors that aren’t serving you and trying to shake off your programming and not be motivated by fear and guilt and shame,” says Hardy. “It’s about learning to be happy and take care of yourself.”

Simple Plan | College Street Music Hall
Jun 3, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New Haven
This event is General Admission Standing Room on the Floor, and Reserved Seated in the Balcony.
Simple Plan will donate $1 from each ticket sold on this tour to the Simple Plan Foundation. Established in 2005, the Simple Plan Foundation focuses on helping young people in need and showcasing the power of music as a tool to find purpose and direction in life. Since its inception the Simple Plan Foundation has donated over $2M to various charitable causes in Canada and has been awarded many prestigious distinctions for its philanthropic work.
SIMPLE PLAN
From their new millennium rise to MTV superstardom through pop-punk’s modern resurgence, SIMPLE PLAN have been an indelible part of pop culture since forming in Montreal in 1999. They’ve sold 10 million albums worldwide, won multiple Juno Awards, performed at the 2010 Winter Olympics – and, most recently, launched the omnipresent #ImJustAKid TikTok challenge that’s spawned more than 3.4 million videos, including clips from Hilary Duff, Ed Sheeran, Usher and Venus and Serena Williams.
HARDER THAN IT LOOKS is the first self-released album from drummer Chuck Comeau, vocalist Pierre Bouvier and guitarists Sébastien Lefebvre and Jeff Stinco. The album respects Simple Plan’s storied career while pushing forward in new ways, with songs like “The Antidote,” “Ruin My Life” (ft. Deryck Whibley), “Congratulations,” "Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare's Over)" and "Iconic" set to stand as fan favourites for years to come.
“It’s amazingly complex to be in a band for 20-plus years, to keep going, stay relevant and manage all the challenges that come your way,” Bouvier says. “It’s the furthest thing from a ‘simple plan’ – it’s truly a lot harder than it looks. Throughout our career, it’s taken a while to be mature enough to understand that our sound is an asset, not a liability. On this album we said: ‘Let’s just embrace who we are and not be afraid to do what we do best.’ Making a good Simple Plan record is just as hard as making something off the beaten path.

WINONA FIGHTER
Nashville-based Winona Fighter is breathing new life into the resurging punk scene. Recently signed to Rise Records, they are on a mission to create punk music that is accessible and accepting to all music lovers willing to listen. This mission statement is exemplified by latest single "I'm In The Market To Please No One", a sonic kick in the face with an earworm chorus and empowered lyrical content and delivery.
Coco’s (front-woman of Winona Fighter) introduction to the Boston punk rock scene at an early age was the catalyst influence for her sound and stage presence. Moving to Nashville gave her a task to expose music lovers to the power of thrashable tunes. After recruiting lead guitarist Dan Fuson, they set off to do justice to the scene Coco had left behind, eventually adding Austin Luther (bass/producer) to the family.
The release of “I’m In The Market To Please No One” saw the band deliver their first proper music video. The song received major support from DSPs including placements with covers on ‘All New Punk’ and ‘New Noise’ playlists. The band is recognized as an energized powerhouse during their live performances. Their shows are a space where all bullshit and ego is left at the door - all are welcome, equal and need to get on their fucking feet. They’re not slowing down in 2024 with 10 shows at SXSW and a US tour with Bayside, Finch and Armor For Sleep. The band will also hit festival stages again for Shaky Knees, Louder Than Life and Aftershock Festival.

If you like fast-paced, edgy one-liners then get ready to be happy. Jimmy Carr is going back on tour with his brand-new show ‘Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny’.
Jimmy tells jokes, and jokes are like magnets.
Jokes attract people, but they can also repel.
Some people are repelled by Jimmy's dark brand of comedy. This show is not for them.
But if it's the kind of thing you like, then this is the kind of thing you’ll like.
JIMMY CARR
One of the biggest-selling comedy acts in the world, Jimmy consistently performs stand-up to sell-out crowds across the globe. At the latest count he has taken tour shows to over forty different countries and his last world tour, Terribly Funny, sold over 1.2 million tickets globally.
Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny will extend his reach even further and marks the first time this record-breaking comedian has toured in arenas in the UK and Ireland.
Jimmy is a household name in UK television, well known for hosting Channel 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Big Fat Quiz Of The Year in addition to presenting Comedy Central’s Roast Battle UK and Your Face Or Mine. He is a regular on all the top panel shows, including QI and A League Of Their Own, has performed as part of The Royal Variety Performance three times, hosts Channel 4 gameshow I Literally Just Told You and in 2025 will also host Last One Laughing UK on Amazon Prime.
Jimmy is also a high-profile name in North America. He was the first UK comedian to sign a stand-up deal with streaming behemoth Netflix in 2015, releasing four specials on the platform, Funny Business (2016) and Best Of Ultimate Gold Greatest Hits (2017), His Dark Material (2021) and Natural Born Killer (2024). He also presented and exec-produced an original panel show format for Netflix, The Fix, and has been a guest multiple times on US staples such The Tonight Show, The Late, Late Show and Late Night With Conan O’Brien. He has performed at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival since 2003 with more appearances than any other UK act in that time.
Before making the move to streaming, Jimmy was one of the bestselling acts in the comedy DVD market, his eight titles (Live, Stand-Up, Comedian, In Concert, Telling Jokes, Making People Laugh, Being Funny and Laughing & Joking) selling over 1.2 million copies between them. These shows are now all available on Jimmy’s YouTube channel, where he has accrued over 1.1 million subscribers and 436 million views since launching in 2018.
Jimmy is also a published author. He co-wrote The Naked Jape: Uncovering the Hidden World of Jokes in 2007 and his highly anticipated memoir Before & Laughter was released in September 2021, making The Sunday Times Bestsellers list.
