As part of the gallery’s annual curatorial invitation, Bigaignon presents Morandi’s Books, a photographic series by American artist Mary Ellen Bartley.Rooted in a 2020 residency at Casa Morandi in Bologna, Morandi’s Books offers a contemplative look into the personal library of Giorgio Morandi, the twentieth-century Italian painter renowned for his quiet and precise still life compositions. Bartley, whose practice explores the physical and formal qualities of books, approached Morandi’s library not just as a subject, but as a point of intimate connection with the artist himself.

Imi Knoebel's resolutely abstract art investigates the fundamentals of painting and sculpture through an exploration of form, colour and material. His aim is to uncover the basic material elements of art, which he locates in the simple interactions between humans and the essential conditions of our world. He remains true to the tradition of non-representational art, following in the footsteps of artists such as Kazimir Malevich or Piet Mondrian. The artist cites his discovery of Malevich's Black Square (1915) as a watershed moment that liberated his conception of painting, giving him 'the overwhelming feeling that I could start at nothing'. He has developed an experimental approach and serial way of working, characterised by a haptic use of colour, geometric vocabulary of forms and material simplicity.

Perrotin Paris presents the gallery’s fifth solo exhibition with artist Matthew Ronay, Thirteen Forms. The presentation brings together ten sculptures and three wall reliefs that continue Ronay’s exploration of the subconscious through his ability to transform the intangible into tactile experience. Ronay’s sculptural works evoke a phantom familiarity, as if plucked from the shadowy recesses of a fevered dream. Erotic undertones and a perverse alchemy of form pulse through Ronay’s objects, which are characterized by subversive humor. Central to the exhibition are two monumental horizontal installations, a polychrome work (The Tombs Are Upset, 2023) and, for the first time, a black monochrome (Contraband Emulator, 2024). Each appears as a kind of cursive script of forms, an approach first employed in Ronay’s 2022 exhibition at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas.

At the invitation of Perrotin Paris, Barbara Newman curated a group exhibition showcasing the work of thirteen artists. Portals to Unwritten Time is inspired by painter Hilma af Klint’s belief that art can serve as a threshold through which we move across time.

Mitterrand presents a new exhibition of works by Franco-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle in both its Paris galleries.Entitled Mythology, this exhibition brings together works from the 1960s to 2000 and explores the artist’s iconography and the symbols that underlie it. The Nanas remain Niki de Saint Phalle’s emblem, but many other figures populate her work. Whether animals, monsters or hybrids, her figures often derive from mythology and tend towards a double meaning.

This summer, Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto transformed the nave of the Grand Palais in Paris into an immersive sensory space for a large-scale installation titled Nosso Barco Tambor Terra (Our Boat Drum Earth). Made from crochet, bark and spices, the work invites contemplation and sharing. Designed to be walked through and inhabited, this multi-sensory environment celebrates a fundamental relationship with nature and explores the continuity between ourselves and the Earth through handmade, organic materials and ancestral techniques. The work is inspired by the profound impact that sailing and seafaring have had on the world, transforming the relationship between people and the land.

This exhibition opens like a wound: gaping, silent, irreversible. The figures it summons are neither allegorical nor documentary. They emerge from a void, in the midst of a loss of meaning, as if humanity, caught in a final spasm, were dancing its own extinction. Inspired by the "epidemic dance" that occurred in Strasbourg in 1518, Hang Lu does not cite: he transposes. He transforms this delirious episode into a pictorial gesture, where trance becomes a formal language.

The painting is simultaneously the instrument and the destination of the photographic capture, aiming less at sublimating these details than determining them as objects soon relieved of their condition as fragments and then meants to become a legitimate whole in themselves. From this perspective, Cottingham’s art, like that of other photorealist artists, is to be understood less in terms of a form of dependence on photography than as seeking to deceive its quality as a faithful reflection of reality. Pop art had already cultivated a form of disillusionment with photography. For Lichtenstein, Warhol, or Rosenquist, among others,the point was to transform media images (from comic strips to pictures of consumer products or journalistic snapshots) under an ironic prism that required a transfiguration of ready-made images through a strict mastery of plastic means. For the generation of artists who followed him, it was a matter of leaving the “interiors,” abandoning the persistent model of still life and challenging photography for the privilege it had acquired in the representation of the real world.

In this uberisation of the world in which the indeterminate time of the selfie circulating on the Web is more important than our presence in a given place, it is photographs of the pages of books, posted on Instagram, that determine their success. The visual pollution that suffocates us day in and day out, in which the images circulating on the Web and social media now direct our way of seeing and being seen, is not unrelated to the new interest in Photorealism shown by a young generation of artists. Pop Art and then Photorealism, which emerged at an interval of only a few years, both initially met with a very cool response: was this a critique or a celebration of the kingdom of consumption, of generalised ugliness, of urban sprawl? Both were discredited by the “lack of professionalism” of the artists concerned: after all, didn’t these painters simply “copy” objects and/or photographs, doing no more than blowing them up in size? What at the time was taken for cynicism strikes us today as incredibly fresh; what was interpreted as copying has since been celebrated as painting whose complexity and formal virtuosity we are now rediscovering. That is why we need to look more closely at these canvases that look like photographic images but are, from close up, very much paintings. (...)

Since 1985, his drawings, paintings, and silkscreens of primates—inspired by his fascinationwith gorillas—have become metaphors for the human condition. In Autorretrato oponible actual,31 (2023) the artist observes the similarities between these animals and his loved ones, weavinga link between animality and humanity. Through these simian figures, he questions his ownreflection, blurring the boundaries of human and animal.In the series Blind Self Portrait, he pursues an introspective exploration by covering elements ofdaily life with paint: personal documents, press clippings, flyers or found objects. These supportsare masked under a layer of acrylic, erasing their visible content. Arranged in a composition thatis both chaotic and rigorously structured, these fragments create a "blind self-portrait" in whichmeaning is deliberately blurred, allowing a form of abstract introspection.

Ain’t Misbehavin’ presents a series of paintings by Nicole Wittenberg developed from her preparatory outdoor pastel sketches. They capture the pleasures of a garden in bloom, but also the desire to capture these fleeting moments as impressions, as these works represent a developmental phase situated between the immediacy of painting on location and the memory work required to reconstruct the picture in the studio. This process suggests a correlation between transience and profound presence. Although created outside of the “field,” these works are animated by a dynamic movement that defines a psychic and affective space, while retaining the energy of the encounter. They seek to convey difficult-to-capture emotions, fleeting and ephemeral moments, a universal yet difficult-to-express sense of selfless connection with the natural world, as well as a sense of empathy for other forms of life.

For his fifth exhibition at Galerie Chantal Crousel, Seth Price presents a new series of paintings that introduces enigmatic figures such as cosmic textures, botanical forms, and hand-drawn symbols. Several works contain representations of mirrored spheres that reflect real-world photographed scenes—Price's studio, the sky, and landscapes—folding these external environments into the pictorial space. The exhibition includes a large-scale work from his ongoing Thought Comes From The Body series, as well as several drawings.

David Zwirner is pleased to present new work by Huma Bhabha at the gallery’s Paris location. Distant Star features six sculptures and a series of large-scale drawings, presenting new directions and materials that expand the scope of the artist’s practice. The exhibition coincides with a two-person presentation of Bhabha’s work in dialogue with sculptures by Alberto Giacometti, on view at the Barbican Centre in London until August 2025. Distant Star is the gallery’s third exhibition of Bhabha’s work, and it follows her two concurrent solo shows in New York in 2024. This is the artist’s first solo presentation in Paris since 2009.

Her work grapples with this duality, reflecting on the yearning for a safe haven alongside the potential for even familiar places to become imbued with unease in the face of loss and change.

Almine Rech Paris, Front Space is pleased to present Roby Dwi Antono's fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, on view from June 14 to July 26, 2025. The arresting image of ‘A Ritualistic Purification of The Water Nymph’ provokes numerous questions. Who is lying down in what seems like a fish shroud? Is she going to survive? Orchestre Hélios Violon et Direction : Glen Rouxel Les quatre saisons d’Antonio Vivaldi est un ensemble de quatre concerti pour violon, composé en 1723. Il s’agit sans doute de la composition la plus connue de Vivaldi et de l’œuvre musicale la plus jouée dans le monde. Il d’agit d’un concerto pour violon où un violon joue accompagné d’un orchestre de chambre. Le contenu de chaque concerto est varié et évoque chacune des saisons auquel il se rapporte. A titre d’exemple, l’hiver est ponctué de notes en pizzicato sur les cordes hautes, faisant penser à une pluie glaciale, alors que l’été évoque un orage dans le mouvement final, préparé par le tonnerre qui gronde à plusieurs reprises dans le mouvement. Les concerti des quatre saisons furent d’abord publiés en 1725 comme une partie d’un ensemble de 12 concerti, L’opus N°8 sous le thème de « la confrontation entre l’harmonie et l’invention » (il cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione). Les quatre premiers concerti étaient nommés les quatre saisons, lesquels portaient le nom de la saison en question. The Carnival of the Tropics returns to Paris for its 23rd edition. On Sunday, July 6, 2025, we will gather in Paris to witness this spectacular event on the most beautiful avenue in the world. Hundreds of dancers and around 30 carnival groups will parade along the Champs-Elysées.
