Juneteenth Beach Volleyball Tournament! | North Avenue Beach South Volleyball Courts

Jun 21, 2025 (UTC-5)
Chicago
Sports & Fitness
Volleyball
Looking to play some beach volleyball, but can't gather enough people to play? Want to play a sport with fun people, but don't want to commit to playing a whole season? Looking to get active without the competitiveness that often comes with joining leagues? Enjoy playing in a co-ed environment? We've got you covered! West Town Social Club's beach volleyball tournaments are created specifically with individual players in mind--no need to pay for a whole team and beg your hesitant friends to join! All players in this tournament are registered as individuals, and will be assigned to one of four (4) teams based on self-ratings--we do our best to make sure all teams are evenly talented. Whether you are a beginner or an expert volleyballer, this event is all about allowing everyone to play in a non-competitive, fun environment. Why? Because at West Town Social Club, we're all about having a good time! This event will be co-ed, so that everyone has a chance to play. RULES/FORMAT Most standard recreational volleyball rules will apply. West Town Social Club's ruleset can be found here . Team assignments and the tournament schedule will be sent in detail via email prior to the event. The first round will be a round robin in which each team plays 3 games--one game against each other the other 3 teams in the tournament. This will be used to seed teams from 1-4 for the second round. Any tiebreakers will be determined first by head-to-head results, and then by point differential. The second round will serve as a semi-final, with the #1 seed playing #4 and #2 vs. #3 in in traditional best-of-3 format. The winners of the second round will then play a best-of-3 for the championship in the third round, with the losing teams playing a best-of-3 consolation round. The winning team will win 2 buckets of beer/seltzer at the after party! More on that below... AFTER PARTY We will have a great after party lined up after the tournament ends at Hopsmith Tavern (15 W Division St)! Specials include $25 domestic buckets, $30 seltzer buckets, and $5 Jameson shots. TEAMMATE REQUESTS/FULL TEAM SIGNUPS Anyone who registers a friend (or significant other) alongside them will get placed on a team together! Requests for additional teammates will be considered on a case-by-case basis up until one week prior to the tournament, and are not guaranteed to be honored. Please remember that this is meant to be a fun tournament where the emphasis is on being social/meeting new people rather than being competitive! Additionally, with this being a social event, full team signups are not available. While we hope to make this an absolutely fun and memorable tournament, there are a handful of important, not-so-fun things to note. Please see below: AGE REQUIREMENT : All participants must be at least 21 years old to participate. Proof of age may be requested by the organizer on the day of the event; please bring identification in case. Those who register and cannot show proof of age will be denied participation in the tournament and will NOT be refunded. ALCOHOL : The Chicago Park District strictly prohibits ANY alcohol consumption in city parks. If you are caught consuming alcohol during participation during this event, you will be asked to properly dispose of your beverage. Any further alcohol consumption witnessed during the event will result in being asked to leave and could potentially result in being banned from future West Town Social Club events. Please do not ruin the chances of us having another tournament by consuming alcohol on the beach courts; there are plenty of great establishments nearby to pregame (that being said, please don't show up heavily intoxicated--you may be asked to sit out until you sober up or to go home if there's serious concern for your well-being) and also to party afterwards. While we don't currently have a sponsor bar for this tournament, the organizer will have some solid recommendations for places to go afterwards! REFUND POLICY : No refunds will be issued except in the event of a non-weather related cancellation. WAIVER : All participants will be asked to sign a digital waiver prior to arrival, agreeing that West Town Social Club will not be held liable for any injuries and/or illness associated with participating in the beach volleyball tournament. Failure to sign this waiver will result in participation being denied with no refund being issued. WEATHER POLICY : We will do our best to play through the tournament on June 21st! In the event that inclement weather prevents play on that date, we will have a party and prize raffle at the sponsor bar. If weather prevents play on the scheduled date and courts are available, we will play the following Saturday (6/28). Any decisions regarding game play will be at the sole discretion of the organizer . Registration closes 24 hours prior to the event on 6/20, no exceptions! Reserve your spot today! NO REFUNDS; ALL SALES FINAL Like and follow West Town Social Club on Facebook/Instagram for all of the latest on upcoming fun events! https://www.facebook.com/WestTownSocialClub https://www.instagram.com/westtownsocialclub/ Information Source: West Town Social Club | eventbrite

The Legacy Project | Green Line Performing Arts Center

Jun 27, 2025 (UTC-5)
Chicago
Cultural Experiences
At its core, Dandelions: Gods Don’t Cry is about resilience, transformation, and self-acceptance. The dandelion, often dismissed as a weed, symbolizes Blackness, queerness, and survival—thriving in places where it wasn’t meant to, adapting, and still standing tall. Through the 13-track journey, the album explores: Personal and collective Black histories, linking past and present struggles to the beauty of endurance. Queer identity and self-reclamation, navigating the world as both marginalized and divinely powerful. Family, grief, and healing, with storytelling that honors legacy while challenging systemic erasure. Musically, the album is immersive and cinematic, weaving together hip-hop, soul, and spoken word. It is meant to be experienced as a living, breathing piece of literature, aligned with Roy's mission to elevate rap as a literary art form. Information Source: Arts + Public Life | eventbrite
