Chicago
At Acero Schools, we are what we believe. Actualizing our vision and launching the “next generation of extraordinary life-long learners, discerners and doers” is critical to our graduates’ long-term success.
Please join us in celebrating our scholars' achievements while also raising funds for our
Somos Scholarship
. The
Somos Scholarship
provides Acero's eighth and twelfth-grade academically high-achieving graduates the financial support they need to further their education.
A unique feature of the scholarship is that it is awarded to 8th-grade elementary school graduates as well as the graduates of our three high schools. These groups of scholars are currently facing their own unique set of challenges as they transition through major milestones in both their academic and personal lives all with an added degree of uncertainty for their future. They need our support now more than ever.
Every day the students, families, faculty and staff of Acero Schools live our mission, “transforming minds through academic empowerment and success.” It is why, after over 20 years, Acero Schools is one of the highest-performing charter school networks in all of Chicago.
First rooted in the Latino neighborhoods of Chicago, Acero Schools is a tuition-free, public charter school network serving a high percentage of bilingual students. What began as a single school in Little Village has grown to a network of fifteen K-12 schools serving multiple diverse Chicago communities. In fact, since 1998 more than 20,000 Chicago students have made their academic mark at one of our schools.

BILAL w/ m.e.h. - Jazz + Gumbo | The Promontory
Jun 14, 2025 (UTC-5)
Chicago
DOORS 8 PM
SHOW 9 PM
Progressive R&B singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer
Bilal
is the artist for whom the neo-soul categorization is most misleading. None of the Philadelphia native's recordings is beholden to any particular soul legend who thrived in the 1960 or '70s, and it isn't just because his voice -- classically trained and uncommonly versatile, capable of singing opera in seven languages -- is so unique.
m.e.h.
is a Chicago-based singer, songwriter, and performer known for her soulful voice, introspective songwriting, and compelling live performances. Blending R&B, soul, and alternative influences, she draws inspiration from Amy Winehouse, Radiohead, Erykah Badu, David Bowie, and André 3000.
With performances at Lollapalooza, House of Blues, Metro, and more, m.e.h. continues to make her mark with releases like
What is a Valentine?
,
Running in Place
,
You Got Me Like
, and her EP
Coup De Grâce
. Featured in
Lyrical Lemonade and
WBEZ Radio
, she is an artist redefining genre and storytelling through music.
About Jazz + Gumbo:
Jazz + Gumbo is a Chicago-based concert series highlighting artists across all variations of jazz, neo-soul and r&b accompanied by gumbo available for purchase prepared by award-winning chefs. The concept pays homage to New Orleans jazz and creole culture, by bringing a taste of the Big Easy to concert venues across Chicago and other markets. This iteration of Jazz + Gumbo headlined by Bilal features gumbo prepared by Chef Rah, of Mahari.
About Chef Rah:
A visionary in the kitchen, Chef Rahim Muhammad-widely known as Chef Ra-brings fire, soul, and storytelling to every dish he creates. Born into a lineage of culinary artisans, his journey is deeply rooted in the bold flavors and traditions of Louisiana, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. With a passion ignited in his family's kitchens and refined through years of exploring the Caribbean and the American South, Muhammad has cultivated a style that is both fearless and deeply personal.

They have love and appreciation for their home and like sharing knowledge about that home with others, thus helping the riders to develop a stronger sense of gratitude for our local history and nature.
The guides will be set with the route and a script about the area you’ll be riding through with intentionally chosen breakpoints along the way.
They are more than someone to follow on the ride. They are trained and will be there to encourage and support you as well as support with mechanicals that may arise.

The base ticket price for this event is kept low with the majority of it going to cover the cost of the campsites, food, and supplies. The guides are all volunteers as OOFD is mainly volunteer run.
So when checking out, please consider the ticket price add-ons and pay what you can to either help grow OOFD and our programs as well as help us provide these incredibly low ticket prices to keep our rides, prices, and organization radically inclusive.

Weather and Rain:
We do not cancel an event for rain, storm, or any other weather. We ride rain or shine.
