TS2025 Vancouver - We Are Family | Granville Chapel

Jun 7, 2025 (UTC-7)
Vancouver
Cultural Experiences
Among all the NT images for church, family is as prevalent as any. Given the Apostle Paul's fondness of this image, Robert Banks says, “the comparison of the Christian community to the family must be regarded as the most significant metaphorical usage of all." In the words of the 70's girl group, Sister Sledge, "We are Family!" Family is where new life is conceived, nurtured to maturity, and where love binds us together. This spring, Vision Ministries is convening six regional, one day events across Canada to help pastors, planters, elders, ministry leaders and influencers explore some of the implications of 'church as family.' CITY DATES: Edmonton - Sat. Apr. 5th Waterloo - Sat. Apr. 12th Toronto - Sat. Apr. 26th Montreal - Sat. May 3rd Halifax - Sat. May 10th Vancouver - Sat. June 7th The day will include: Learning Labs - sessions designed to learn from and be inspired by ministry practitioners as they unpack initiatives from their own church context focused on birthing new things, nuturing vitality or multiplication. Panel Discussion - a session designed to explore the family metaphor for a regional network of churches. Message - a call to live out 'family life' in the local church and regional network. VMC Updates - cultivating awareness of new initiatives and future developments for our national family. Lunch & Breaks - a chance to deepen relationship with ministry peers and other 'family members' from across the region. The Lord's Supper - gathering around the table, set by the One who brought us into his family, making us spiritual sisters and brothers though his sacrifice. Though the event is open to all, it is gear for people of influence (experienced or emerging) in your congregation. Mark the date on your calendar, register on the Eventbrite site, and encourage others in your context to do the same. Information Source: Vision Ministries Canada | eventbrite

Gift of Communication 2025 | Hyatt Regency Vancouver

Jun 8, 2025 (UTC-7)
Vancouver
Cultural Experiences
Will you give the Gift of Communication? Here’s an opportunity to make a difference by helping Vancouver-area nonprofit organizations address some of their most pressing communication challenges and become more effective in achieving their missions. An exciting way to start your 2025 World Conference experience! Join a small team of IABC communication professionals from around the world to work hand-in-hand with representatives of each local nonprofit. You’ll learn about your agency’s mission and challenges and explore ways they can, with their limited resources, improve communication with their members, stakeholders and publics. Most local nonprofits lack the budgets to hire consultants to guide them. You give the Gift of Communication by providing pro bono advice and counsel to these agencies, who will benefit from your training, experience and expertise. At the same time, you’ll find yourself tapping into your own skillbase and working together with professional colleagues from around the world. It will energize you as much as it energizes the nonprofits, and you’ll find yourself learning almost as much as they do. We’ll start promptly at 1:00 p.m. and adjourn by 4:00 p.m. Registrations accepted on a first-come-first-served basis; seating will be limited! Sign up now! Night Owl | Queer Arts Festival & SUM gallery

Jun 8, 2025 (UTC-7)
Vancouver
Cultural Experiences
We’re thrilled to present the QAF debut of Dutch accordionist Erica Roozendaal . Visiting us from the Hague, Roozendaal shares an intimate program at SUM gallery that includes music by the iconic Pauline Olivieros, plus Erica’s own autobiographical showpiece, Night Owl . This beautiful and moving performance subtly addresses the theme of abuse and growing up in an unsafe environment. Erica Roozendaal—performer, visual artist, and accordionist—created the script and performs the monologue in a restrained, captivating manner while alternating with playing the accordion. Presented in partnership with Vancouver InterCultural Orchestra. About Erica Roozendaal Within the versatility of all art forms, Erica Roozendaal sees herself primarily as a “storyteller”: expressing a story, an experience or emotion, using the medium that best serves that purpose. As a classically trained accordionist, music is her biggest focus and always plays a role on stage, though she is equally at home in the worlds of visual art and theatre. As a musician, Erica enjoys collaborating with composers, which has resulted in dozens of new solo pieces and chamber music works. After studying classical music, she further developed in folk and improvised music. Curiosity about (still) unknown music, culture, history, brings a broad musical palette, which she also likes to interconnect. So she prefers to play concerts in which the common thread is a theme or a story, with music from all sorts of angles and eras. In 2016, she founded Roadrunner, an ensemble that sits between contemporary, folk and improvised music with an emphasis on her own written work. Every year they organize the Roadrunner Academy week, a week for young composers concluding with a concert featuring the new pieces. In addition to being a performing artist, Erica has been affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague since 2020. Among other things, she teaches accordion within PI: a program designed specifically for preschoolers, and Young KC, a preliminary program for children ages 6 to 10. Empathizing with young children’s experiences, teaching aurally, stimulating curiosity and creativity: these are the key elements of her teaching practice. Motherhood, Sam Woy and Guests | Green Auto Body

Jun 11, 2025 (UTC-7)
Vancouver
Family Events
Motherhood Playful as a puppy but smart as a whip, New Brunswick, Canada’s MOTHERHOOD has a knack for packing deeply conceptual art rock into a delightfully unpretentious package. Oft-described as “evil Beach Boys”, the trio blends the ferocity of punk, the finesse of surf, and the raw energy of garage into something as complex as it is endearing. SamWoy SamWoy is the musical persona of Sam Woywitka—a Montreal-based artist who unleashes brash and unabashed compositions that transcend genre distinctions. SamWoy tracks can’t be wrangled or pinned down, and are as likely to delve into ambient bliss and lush orchestration as they are to get torn apart by buzzsaw synths and distorted drums. Live, SamWoy is a high-wire act of dramatic shifts between bangers and beauty—a rager where all forms of emotion are embraced. Information Source: Green Auto | eventbrite
