About The Library of Lost Dollhouses. . .A fresh new novel from beloved author Elise Hooper, about a young librarian who discovers historic dollhouses and embarks on a journey to uncover the hidden secrets behind the intricate miniatures, perfect for fans of Fiona Davis and Marie Benedict. Tildy Barrows, Head Curator of a beautiful archival library in San Francisco, is meticulously dedicated to the century’s worth of inventory housed in her beloved Beaux Art building. She loves the calm and order in the shelves of books and walls of art. But Tildy’s uneventful life takes an unexpected turn when she, first, learns the library is on the verge of bankruptcy and, second, discovers two exquisite never-before-seen dollhouses. After finding clues hidden within these remarkable miniatures, Tildy starts to believe that Belva Curtis LeFarge, the influential heiress who established the library a century ago, is conveying a significant final message. With a newfound sense of spontaneity, Tildy sets out to decipher the secret history of the dollhouses, aiming to salvage her cherished library in the process. Her journey to understand introduces her to a world of ambitious and gifted women in Belle Époque Paris, a group of scarred World War I veterans in the English countryside, and Walt Disney’s bustling Burbank studio in the 1950s. As Tildy unravels the mystery, she finds not only inspiring, overlooked history, but also a future for herself, filled with exciting possibilities—and an astonishing familial revelation. Spanning the course of a century, The Library of Lost Dollhouses is a warm, bright, and captivating story of secrets and love that embraces the importance of illuminating overlooked women of the past. About The California Dreamers. . .Malibu Rising meets The Great Alone:A group of siblings captured in an iconic beach nostalgia photo reunite as adults on a sunny California island to celebrate their late father, only to be forced to face the fallout of their unconventional upbringing—and a secret that has been simmering for decades... ONE GOLDEN FAMILY. ONE ENDLESS SUMMER OF SECRETS. AND AN IMAGE THAT CAPTIVATED GENERATIONS. It’s 1980s California, and everyone’s dreaming of the endless summer: sun-drenched beaches, infinite waves, and most of all, beautiful, beautiful freedom. For the Merrick siblings, this idyllic vision is their reality, as they travel up and down the coast with their parents in a van year-round, surfing and swimming their days away. But when a photographer secretly snaps a stunning photo of the family with their boards in the sand, and the image ripples across the country, the only life they’ve ever known is put at risk. Decades after, the now-distant siblings gather on a gorgeous, wild island to honor their late father. But their reunion is complicated when a journalist, eager for the truth behind the iconic photo, discovers their identity and tracks them down. As the siblings reckon with the possibility that more of their lives could be shared, a revelation about their past forces them to confront long-held heartaches. Together, they’ll have to decide whether to let the same tensions rip them apart again—or if telling their story on their own terms might just be the way to recapture the family magic. A native New Englander, Elise Hooperspent several years writing for television and online news outlets before getting a MA and teaching high-school literature and history. Her debut novel The Other Alcott was a nominee for the 2017 Washington Book Award. Three more novels—Learning to See, Fast Girls, and Angels of the Pacific—followed, all centered on the lives of extraordinary but overlooked historical women. Her next book, The Library of Lost Dollhouses, will be out in spring '25. Elise lives in Seattle with her husband and two daughters. Amy Mason Doan is the bestselling author of The California Dreamers, Lady Sunshine, The Summer List, and Summer Hours, all from HarperCollins/Graydon House. Amy grew up in Northern California and now lives in Portland, Oregon. As a writer & editor at publications including The Oregonian, San Francisco Chronicle, Wired and Forbes, Amy interviewed everyone from beer-brewing monks to billionaire CEOs. She has an M.A. in Journalism from Stanford University and a B.A. in English from U.C. Berkeley. Trivia questions cover a wide variety of sex and sexuality-related topics, so get ready to challenge yourself, learn something new, and have a good time. There will be PRIZES for the winning teams! Pricing details: A portion of each ticket will be donated to the Queer Sick Pay Fund (qSPF). This Fund provides sick pay to Queer performers in nightlife spaces who live and work in Seattle, WA. This protects queer artists and community from financial and physical harm by incentivising artists to stay home when not feeling well. We believe that the financial and physical health of Queer People guarantees that Seattle will thrive. Queer nightlife performers often live paycheck to paycheck, and the loss of even a single gig can be devastating. Other industries have systems of protection and guaranteed sick pay, but Queers just have each other, so Betty Wetter and Drama Tops came together to create this safety net for their community. To best support the Queer Sick Pay Fund and your trivia hosts, we recommend the $15 ticket, but please choose the ticket price that is best for you and your circumstances. Registration is required in advance. About Worry. . .NATIONAL BESTSELLER * Named a Best Book of the Year by the New Yorker, NPR, Vogue, the Washington Post, Electric Lit, and more! A “dryly witty” (The New Yorker) and “fabulously revealing” (TheNew York Times Book Review) debut that follows two sisters-turned-roommates navigating an absurd world on the verge of calamity—a Seinfeldian novel for readers of Ottessa Moshfegh and Sally Rooney. It’s March of 2019, and twenty-eight-year-old Jules Gold—anxious, artistically frustrated, and internet-obsessed—has been living alone in the apartment she once shared with the man she thought she’d marry when her younger sister Poppy comes to crash. Indefinitely. Poppy, a year and a half out from a suicide attempt only Jules knows about, searches for work and meaning in Brooklyn while Jules spends her days hate-scrolling the feeds of Mormon mommy bloggers and waiting for life to happen. Then the hives that’ve plagued Poppy since childhood flare up. Jules’s uterus turns against her. Poppy brings home a maladjusted rescue dog named Amy Klobuchar. The girls’ mother, a newly devout Messianic Jew, starts falling for the same deep-state conspiracy theories as Jules’s online mommies. Jules, halfheartedly struggling to scrape her way to the source of her ennui, slowly and cruelly comes to blame Poppy for her own insufficiencies as a friend, a writer, and a sister. And Amy Klobuchar might have rabies. As the year shambles on and a new decade looms near, a disastrous trip home to Florida forces Jules and Poppy—comrades, competitors, constant fixtures in each other’s lives—to ask themselves what they want their futures to look like, and whether they’ll spend them together or apart. “A tragicomic portrait of urban millennial life” (Shelf Awareness), Worry is a “riotously funny and wryly existential” (Harper’s Bazaar) novel of sisterhood from a nervy new voice in contemporary fiction. Alexandra Tanner is a writer and editor based in Brooklyn, NY. Her stories, essays, and reviews appear in Granta, The New York Times Book Review, The Baffler, and Jewish Currents, among other outlets. Her first novel, Worry, was named one of the best books of 2024 by The New Yorker, Vogue, the BBC, The Washington Post, NPR, and more; it’s out now in hardcover wherever books are sold, and the paperback—due in April 2025—is available for preorder. Wes Minter is a career bookseller who joined the ranks of Third PlaceBooks in 2014. Each evening, students head out to local hotspots with our instructors for a night of socializing with the kind of women they have only dreamed of before. Our 3:1 student – instructor ratio offers each ABCs student as much 1-on-1 help as they can handle. And after each in-field exercise is a debriefing session where students can get feedback on how they did. Often times, our students meet someone special during the bootcamp, which alone can be well worth the price of attending. AND HERE IS THE BEST PART: Head instructor JT the Asian Playboy does not belong to any large corporation, and is not interested in fly-by-night schemes. He is interested in YOUR SUCCESS , and has designed a program that keeps students in REGULAR contact with instructors through meetings and our internet boards. In other words, THIS IS NOT A ONE- WEEKEND THING . We've gotten tired of hearing stories where a guys takes a bootcamp at another company, gets some success, and then slowly loses his skills. THIS IS NOT TRUE INSTRUCTION , but a temporary fix. After YEARS of teaching his own highly successful bootcamps, APB has designed a SPECIALIZED program of hardcore instruction combined with multiple follow up meetings. Our alumni have a chance to meet with their instructors even AFTER they graduate from the bootcamp. We believe our students are a reflection of our company, and our goal is to assure that all of them are successful. Where other companies cut contact with students when the bootcamp ends, your bootcamp is an induction into a brotherhood of amateur and veteran social artists who truly want to help each other. And guess what? WE DON’T CHARGE EXTRA FOR THE FOLLOW-UP REUNIONS . This is not some scheme where we raised the prices of our programs. APB has chosen to offer FREE follow-up events because he is dedicated to seeing his students grow and become successful with women. Having learned from the best, APB understands that, while a bootcamp can skyrocket your success, follow up is essential to truly develop your social skills. Here is what some students are saying about our program: The ABCs of Attraction is one of the rare companies that offers programs like this, which is why we have had such a high student success rate. - SCHEDULE - Day One: Lecture: 6:00pm to 9:00pm | Infield Nightgame and debrief 10pm-2am Day Two: Lunch and Learn 3pm (With JT Tran) Matermind Lecture: 4pm to 8pm | Infield Nightgame and debrief 10pm-2am Day Three: Lecture and Daygame Infield:1pm to 5pm Lifestyle Day Three Lecture: 5pm-8pm We view teaching as more than a method. We see it as a MOVEMENT of men learning how to properly socialize, interact and date women. Now you can learn the A-F secrets of how to meet beautiful women and begin your own journey of personal improvement. Don't you think it's time? EMPOWER YOURSELF! Third Place Books is elated to welcome Rivka Clifton, Cass Garison,Austin Price, and Miriam Milena to our Ravenna store! They'll be celebrating the release of Clifton's debut poetry collection, Muzzle, and reading from selected work. The poems in Muzzle contemplate the relationship between speech and violence and how translating the experience of grief and loss into language can itself be a form of violence-through one's initial experience and living memory. As we traverse the poems in this collection, we are invited to consider our own lives, our own relationship with memory, grief, loss, love, and, yes, violence. This event is free and open to the public. For important updates, RSVP is highly recommended in advance. This event will include a public signing and time for audience Q&A. Sustain our author series by purchasing a copy of the featured book! Having trouble registering? See Eventbrite's troubleshooting FAQ here. Tickets:This event is free to attend. Registration is required in advance. About Muzzle. . .In her debut full collection of poetry, Rivka Clifton, a curator of curiosities, challenges us to consider language as a form of violence. Challenges us to understand what violence can be: memory, both lived and re-lived. Rivka draws on her personal journey with these powerful landscapes, which are part incantation, part exorcism. The poems in Muzzle contemplate the relationship between speech and violence and how translating the experience of grief and loss into language can itself be a form of violence-through one's initial experience and living memory. How can everyday speech be violent, how can small violences be a means of communication-these are the questions posed to us by Muzzle. As we traverse the poems in this collection, we are invited to consider our own lives, our own relationship with memory, grief, loss, love, and, yes, violence. Rivka Clifton is the author of the chapbooks MOT and AGAPE (Osmanthus Press). Her work appears in Pleiades, Guernica, Cincinnati Review, Salt Hill, Colorado Review, The Journal, Beloit Poetry Journal, and other magazines. She is an avid record collector and curator of curiosities. Cass Garison is a poet & artist with an MFA from University of Washington, Seattle.
