In Translation Book Club: Meeting 2 | Upstart & Crow
May 7, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Vancouver
Welcome to
Upstart & Crow’s In Translation Book Club
, a celebration of global literature and storytelling across languages and borders! This free, bi-monthly event in our studio space introduces readers to powerful voices writing in languages other than English, amplifying fresh perspectives, underheard narratives and bold ideas.
For our second book, we’ve selected
Perfection
by Vincenzo Latronico, translated from Italian by Sophie Hughes.
Sharp, biting, and unsettlingly familiar,
Perfection
is a novel for anyone who has ever questioned the life they’ve curated. Anna and Tom have built an enviable existence in Berlin — carefully designed, aesthetically pleasing and utterly hollow. Longlisted for the 2025 International Booker Prize, this
is a razor-sharp dissection of modern ambition, digital culture, and the all-too-familiar sense of disillusionment.
Our meeting will take place on
Wednesday, May 7 at 6 p.m., in person at Upstart & Crow.
Bring yourself and an open mind to discuss the book! That’s all.
You do not need to have purchased the book from us to attend, but we’ll be offering a 10% discount on the title if you do. You can do so by selecting
between three ticket options: book included, no book, or by donation.
To prepare in advance, our next two book club selections will be:
Journey to the Edge of Life
, Tezer Özlü (out April 11) — Meeting in July
Motherhood and Its Ghosts
, Iman Mersal (out May 16) — Meeting in September
