Experience three new performances all incorporating live music in dialogue with live art-making. Musicians and artists have been brought together to perform in pairs, the musicians playing the artwork” that the artist is making, while the artists visualise the music” that the musician plays. Up first, harpist Anna Phillips and visual artist Curtis Donovan combine a purity of sound with that of geometry. Then enjoy a real-time encounter between the dynamic compositions of vocalist J Cocoa and painter Charly Helyar. Finally the mesmeric and murky Vibin n Marblin (vibraphonist Jackie Walduck with paper marbler Chloe Cooper) invite you to partake in a communal purification ritual. Yoko Tawada, the award-winning, critically acclaimed novelist of The Last Children of Tokyo, Scattered All Over the Earth and Memoirs of a Polar Bear is visiting Libreria to discuss her new novel, Spontaneous Acts. In Spontaneous Acts, Patrik is a literary researcher living in Berlin, a city just coming back to life after lockdown. Though his beloved opera houses are open again, Patrik cannot leave the house and hardly manages to get out of bed. He is supposed to give a paper at a conference in Paris, on the poetry collection Threadsuns by Paul Celan, but he can't get past the first question on the registration form: 'What is your nationality?' As Patrik attempts to find a connection in a world that constantly overwhelms him, he meets a mysterious stranger. The man's name is Leo-Eric Fu, and somehow he already knows Patrik… Yoko Tawada's mesmerising new novel unfolds like a lucid dream in which the solace of friendship, reading, conversation, music - of seeing and being seen - is examined and celebrated. Spontaneous Acts reaches out to all of us who find meaning and even obsession in the words of those before us. This event is produced in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, who have kindly supported Yoko’s visit to the UK. Information Source: Libreria | eventbrite

YAYOI KUSAMA: EARLY WORKS ON PAPER | Omer Tiroche Gallery

Oct 8–Dec 10, 2024 (UTC)ENDED
London
Exhibitions
Omer Tiroche Gallery is pleased to announce our forthcoming exhibition, Yayoi Kusama: Early Works on Paper. The featured works explore the formative years of Kusama's creative journey, delving into the early stages of her artistic development. This exhibition examines how Kusama's initial explorations on paper laid the groundwork for the distinctive motifs and themes that would define her later and much-celebrated works. Kusama was born in 1929, in Matsumoto, Japan, to a wealthy merchant family known for their technologically advanced wholesale plant farm and seed nursery. In spite of their affluence, Kusama's childhood was marked by turmoil; her parents' marriage was fraught with conflict due to her father’s flamboyant extramarital affairs. This instability profoundly affected Kusama, leading to a strained relationship with her mother, who was both physically and mentally abusive, and vehemently opposed her becoming an artist.

Then bar is open till 8:30pm As part of the Women in Art series of talks, independent art consultant and art dealer Christina Cadogan will talk about innovative women artists working in the Nordic countries in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This was a time when women fought to be taken seriously as artists and often worked on the periphery of their male contemporaries. Artists discussed will include Hilma af Klint, Karin Larsson and Helene Schjerfbeck and more. The late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were pivotal for women artists in the Nordic countries, as they navigated a challenging landscape to assert their identities and talents amidst societal constraints. Many women artists during this period exhibited remarkable innovation and resilience. These women, among others, challenged the artistic conventions of their era and paved the way for future generations of female artists. Their contributions are now being increasingly recognized and celebrated, offering a richer understanding of the artistic landscape of the Nordic countries during this transformative period. https://cadoganfinearts.com/about/ Instagram: @christina_cadogan Information Source: Gabrielle du Plooy | eventbrite

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ DOUBLE FIVE STAR EdFringe REVIEWS ’hypnotic enough to stop time itself’ It’s all in that title, really. A family saga about men, women and whisk(e)y… what’s not to love! After sellout shows in Edinburgh, London, Belfast, Bangor, Joyce Greenaway is thrilled to perform her ’blistering’ solo show for one night only in the gloriously atmospheric cellar of The Mall Tavern, just 2 minutes from Notting Hill Gate station. Laced with dry Northern Irish wit, casked in raw emotion, it's a story you won’t forget. Oh... and it was recently placed in the Top10% of 4000+ scripts in the BBC Writersroom Open Call 2023! Hypnotic, powerful, beautifully written… Go and inhale @JoMacsween Hairs standing on the back of the necks stuff @stevenatkinson84 Head of Producing & Partnerships, Royal Court, London Outrageously talented… we were FLOORED…@hellopopelei Theatre Greenaway has also worked with Sandi Toksvig, Georgia Pritchett (Succession) & Alice Birch (Normal People), her own GEORGE & THE DRAGON won Best UK Short Film at The Oxford International Film Festival - and gamers may recognise hers as the only NI voice in Ubisoft’s WATCH DOGS: LEGION So... watch the promo👇book your tickets, then sit back and enjoy this family drama as you sip away on your own wee dram! 🥃 Doors open: 6.30pm Tuesday 8th OCTOBER 2024 Performance: 7.00-8.15pm Age 18+ Some swearing, strong language, contains distressing themes. ’Not to be missed’ @absurdistworld Information Source: Joyce Greenaway | eventbrite
