Thaipusam Festival in Singapore | Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple

Feb 11, 2025 (UTC+8)ENDED
Singapore
Celebration
To those unfamiliar with the Hindu rituals of Thaipusam, it may seem like an odd festival. However, it is one of the more beautiful and spiritual religious ceremonies celebrated in Singapore – a festival steeped in ancient traditions. This two-day event is a Tamil festival of thanksgiving that involves asceticism and control of the senses. It honours Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war who represents virtue, youth and strength, and is revered for defeating particularly evil demons. Devotees seek blessings, fulfil vows and give thanks. During Thaipusam, processions of devotees are seen from the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple on Serangoon Road to the Sri Thandayuthapani Temple on Tank Road, with some roads closed to vehicles for the occasion. Onlookers can get a close look at the Kavadi, which literally means "every step is abandoned" in Tamil. The Kavadi can weigh up to 40 kilograms and stand up to 4 meters tall.

Your excellent teaching techniques and communication skills combined with your lovely personality make for an extraordinary experience. The classes are challenging, but so rewarding. I left every class exhausted and thrilled! Meeting you has certainly been a highlight of my Singapore holiday. Wishing you every happiness! Debra Armstrong, Ettiquette Instructor Li Ching is a talented artist and skilful teacher. She wins us over with her patience and a big heart who generously shares her passion for painting and art techniques honed over many first-hand experiences creating beautiful works of art. She customizes her teaching and lifts us feeling energized, inspired and encouraged to paint better after her classes with the aim of progressing systematically towards ‘unconscious competence! Best investment of time and resources if you are looking at learning Watercolour painting and art appreciation while having fun at the same time… choose wisely and attend her classes first. Teo Ching Ling, Educator Leach is my first professional watercolour teacher and I'm so thrilled that I could finally attend her class after waiting for years! She is extra-ordinary for she teaches us to fish, very generous in sharing her knowledge and resources, systematic in teaching us the basic + techniques and the Science behind painting. Leach is a very passionate and authentic teacher and the memory of our laughters and sharing of life experiences make the lessons so memorable. I am already feeling the 'withdrawal symptoms' after our last lesson with her. Thank you Leach for investing in us. I am looking forward to more lessons with you!
