Together, we will dissect each artwork and have an intimate discussion about rice, folklores and more! About the Artist Cynthia Delaney Suwito is a visual artist who explores the theme of everyday objects and experiences. She uses observational humour to explore such daily phenomena as the omnipresence of instant noodles, the misfortunes of plastic bags, the misuse of clothes pegs, and the perpetual turning of toilet paper rolls. Her work gives spaces for everyday objects to challenge its own mundanity. Her work takes varied forms, many of which are site specific, interactive sculptures and installations.
Born in Indonesia and based in Singapore, Cynthia completed her Bachelor in Fine Arts, at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. Cynthia was featured on BBC Asia and CNA, and was in the 2017 FORBES 30 under 30 Asia in the Arts. An uproarious manifesto that blazes new ways to think about and perform ‘leadership’, the book offers a change-making heuristic tool kit to individuals and institutions that want to challenge normative structures of power and knowledge. Practicing tentacular thinking, Kai Syng concocts a unique intersectional recipe for ‘neuro-futurism’ out of an eclectic mix of discourses, including creative pedagogy, critical studies, social justice, altermobilities, and Daoist cosmology among others. The lecture performance will be followed by a conversation with Karin Oen, NTU CCA Director. A limited number of copies will be available for purchase. Kai Syng Tan PhD, PFHEA (she/they) is an award-winning artist, academic, agitator, and Associate Professor in Arts and Cultural Leadership at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. Immerse yourself in a captivating floral display created in collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy Singapore, celebrating the relations between orchids and Thai culture. Orchids, symbols of elegance and nature’s beauty, take centre stage in this stunning homage to Thailand. Discover the heritage of Thailand through iconic features like the Royal Pantheon, a landmark of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace in Bangkok built to honour the kings of the Chakri dynasty. The display is adorned with a vibrant array of exotic orchid species and hybrids, complemented by iconic gilded chedis and majestic yakshas, mythical guardians from the Ramakien epic, bringing Thai culture and legend to life. Explore over 60 orchid taxa, including iconic vandaceous orchids of the country such as Vanda, Rhynchostylis and Aranda, as well as diverse groups of Dendrobium. This unique display highlights the diversity, craftsmanship, and prominence of Thai orchids.
