Powerlands is a documentary film by Navajo filmmaker Ivey Camille Manybeads Tso that explores the impacts of energy production infrastructure on indigenous peoples and diverse ecosystems across a multitude of contexts, from her home in Arizona to the Philippines and many places in between. In doing so, Ivey Camille presents a moving story of indigenous resistance to colonial projects and visions for more just energy system futures. After the film, Ivey Camille will be available via video call to answer questions, followed by a discussion about some of the themes Powerlands spotlights. We’ll talk about the concept of energy colonialism, take a look at some examples, and discuss how we could advocate for a transition to an energy system here in Scotland that’s more democratic and environmentally sustainable while being in solidarity with indigenous people and avoiding the perpetuation of extractive colonial relations. SWAN has been working with Paths for All to train our autistic volunteers to become Health Walk leaders and run local walking groups for autistic women and non-binary people. The SWAN walks offer a supportive and inclusive environment for autistic women and non-binary people. Beyond improving physical wellbeing, these walks provide an opportunity for socialisation and peer support. The walks will be around an hour long at an easy social pace and are perfect for anyone who would like to become more active in the company of other autistic people. We will start from Langside Halls, 5 Langside Ave, Glasgow G41 2QR for this first walk and we may explore different places over time, adapt the walks, or add in extra ones, to suit people’s needs. Do you have an idea that you want to see on the screen? A character that deserves more time than 5-minutes in front of an audience? Or just want to get into TV writing? This workshop will cover turning your idea into a first draft, and where to take it after you've polished it into gold. We will go over several different story theories, break down a case study episode of television, and learn how to pitch ideas through loglines, summaries, treatments, and having a strong first ten pages. By the end of the workshop, you'll be able to plot and write your own script that showcases your own voice (or whoever's voice you want, really). Kate and Chris met while completing their Masters in Television Writing and have worked together on several projects since. Chris has been commissioned to write multiple television feature films, was selected for the John Yorke Drama Writing Academy, and currently works in TV development. Kate has been a part of the Jed Mercurio Mentorship, Torino ComedyLab, and the BBC Academy, which brought her to EastEnder's story room. She currently works for River City as a Storyliner. Both Chris and Kate have independent projects they are currently working on/in development with.
