POWERLANDS: film screening, Q&A with film maker and discussion | GalGael Trust
Jun 25, 2025 (UTC+1)
Glasgow
Powerlands is a documentary film by Navajo filmmaker Ivey Camille Manybeads Tso that explores the impacts of energy production infrastructure on indigenous peoples and diverse ecosystems across a multitude of contexts, from her home in Arizona to the Philippines and many places in between. In doing so, Ivey Camille presents a moving story of indigenous resistance to colonial projects and visions for more just energy system futures.
After the film, Ivey Camille will be available via video call to answer questions, followed by a discussion about some of the themes Powerlands spotlights. We’ll talk about the concept of energy colonialism, take a look at some examples, and discuss how we could advocate for a transition to an energy system here in Scotland that’s more democratic and environmentally sustainable while being in solidarity with indigenous people and avoiding the perpetuation of extractive colonial relations.
