Nomads on Screen: Psychoanalysing the 21st Century Subject Beyond Borders | DCU All Hallows Campus
Apr 12, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dublin
On three Saturday afternoons – 12th April, 24th May, and 14th June – the IPFF and DCU Centre for Possibility Studies will host a special series of films, 'WItches', 'Nomadland' and 'In the Real', respectively, examining the theme of the subjectivity of the contemporary nomad through the lens of psychoanalysis. Each screening will be presented by a scholar/psychoanalyst/filmmaker, followed by a Q&A and discussion. All welcome. Presenters/scholars will include Professor Valerie Heffernan (Maynooth University), psychotherapist and scholar Dr Angie Voela and psychotherapist(UEL), scholar and film-maker Conor McCormack (CFAR, Bristol) From the Greek nemo (pasture) the term ‘nomad’ originally described pastoral people as well as groups without permanent abode. As such nomadic groups have been defined in relation to absolute or irregular mobility. The Nomad in the philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s thought is a symbol of freedom, fluidity, and non-conformity to rigid structures or territories. Rather than being defined by stable identities or fixed points (as “sedentary” people or societies often are), the nomad represents movement, multiplicity, and ‘becoming’. In our time, large groups of people still have to move themselves to flee war, famine, and torture; what we think of as the migrant diaspora of the discontents of our so-called civilisations. At the level of the singular we see and hear the accounts of those who are deemed to ‘belong’ outside/outwith the social order, what Lacan called the Symbolic. Thus evicted from the Symbolic order, the residue of their eviction leaves a trace in the Imaginary and in the Real.

Safeguarding 3 Online Workshop | Online workshop through Zoom
Apr 16, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dun Laoghaire
Safeguarding 3 - Designated Liaison Person(DLP) A person appointed to the Designated Liaison Person (DLP) position in a club must have completed the Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course (Safeguarding 1 Workshop) and should complete the NEW Designated Liaison Person 3 hour workshop. A club may appoint the same person to both the CCO and DLP positions however best practice advises that they are kept as separate roles. The third part of the ISC Child Welfare & Protection Training Programme is the Designated Liaison Person workshop. Every club/organisation should designate a person to be responsible for dealing with any concerns about the protection of children. The Designated Liaison Person is responsible for reporting allegations or suspicions of child abuse to TULSA Child and Family Agency or Social Services (NI) and/or An Garda Siochán / PSNI. It is recommended that this person is a senior club person. However, if there is difficulty identifying a separate individual to take this role, the Club Children's Officer can be appointed as Designated Liaison Person once the club/organisation is clear about the responsibilities of each role. The organisation's child protection policy and procedures should include the name and contact details of the Designated Liaison Person and the responsibilities attached to the role. The Sport Ireland Code has been adopted and implemented by governing bodies of sports, clubs, local sports partnerships and community/voluntary groups on an ongoing basis since 2000. It has been encouraging to see the common sense approach to the adoption of the code at grass roots level, which has resulted in protection for young people and leaders. VENUE INFORMATION This is an online workshop that will take place over zoom. The zoom link and course material will be emailed to registered participants a couple of days before the course takes place. The zoom details are not to be shared with others and only those registered will be admitted to the course. GDPR By registering for this workshop your name, email and D.O.B will be shared with Sport Ireland. This information is required to produce your certificate of completion.
