This year's Dublin Coffee Festival will be bigger and better than ever, with a new location welcoming more exhibitors, visitors and entertainment. The event includes a host of exhibitors from Ireland and beyond, live competitions on the main stage, coffee tastings and tastings, talks and panel discussions from industry experts, as well as live music and guest DJs.

Join us for the 80th Anniversary of Our Lady's Choral as we perform Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross at the Church of the Immaculate Conception - Adam and Eve's. It's going to be an afternoon filled with beautiful music and celebration. Every Lent, the tradition in the Spanish Cathedral in Cádiz was for the Bishop to deliver from the pulpit, a discourse on each of the Seven Last Words of Our Saviour. After each discourse, music was performed to allow meditation. In 1786 Fr. José Sáenz de Santa Maria, who had reconditioned the Oratorio de la Santa Cueva, invited Haydn to compose music for the service. The challenge for Haydn was to compose seven suitable, contrasting, slow movements while holding the attention of the listener. He was so successful that the priest sent him a cake as payment. Inside the cake, however, were gold coins. Some eight years later, on his way to London for the second time, Haydn heard a revised version of his work made by the Music Director in Passau, Joseph Friebert. He included a chorus. The composer was much impressed but decided to improve on it, preparing his own choral version. ABOUT THE BOOK: MUSIC AND MAYHEM charts the immersive and explosive life of KEITH DONALD, one of Ireland’s most important musicians, plus the golden decade of Irish music that he was at the very centre of. In a career that has spanned over five decades, Keith has played on over eighty albums and worked with artists including VAN MORRISON, CHRISTY MOORE, RONNIE DREW and LOUIS STEWART, among many others. His story begins in Unionist east Belfast, hurtling through vivid memories of a childhood as a musical prodigy, first performing at the BBC aged ten. His story takes him to the classics department of Trinity College Dublin in the early sixties, a hotbed of new ideas, before he becomes enveloped in the beauty of tenor sax. The seventies saw Keith building a music career in Dublin and Europe, coping with addiction, a crumbling marriage, and forging a separate life as a qualified social worker. It was the 1980s however, when his greatest breakthrough came to pass with the formation of the Celtic rock supergroup MOVING HEARTS. With the Hearts, Keith was tour manager, star performer and inspiration, alongside bandmates including CHRISTY MOORE and DONAL LUNNY.
