Safeguarding 1 Online Workshop | Online workshop through Zoom

Apr 8, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dun Laoghaire
Sports & Fitness
Safeguarding 1 Online - Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course All Coaches, Children's Officers and Designated Liaison Persons (DLP) must first complete the 3 hour Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course. This is an on line workshop which educates participants on the implementation of best practice in protecting the welfare of children involved in sport. The Sport Ireland Code has been adopted and implemented by governing bodies of sports, clubs, local sports partnerships and community/voluntary groups on an ongoing basis since 2000. It has been encouraging to see the common sense approach to the adoption of the code at grass roots level, which has resulted in protection for young people and leaders. If young people are to stay involved in sport throughout their adult life, they need to be equipped with the fundamentals to remain involved with sport and physical activity. Equally we need to ensure that their early experiences are positive and enjoyable, irrespective of their ability, gender, social class, race, etc. It is encouraging to see adults, both volunteers and professionals, contribute to these positive experiences by acting as role models in all dealings with young people. In particular the work of Children's Officers at club and national level is instrumental in implementing the Code. We need to build on this valuable work to ensure that all young people see sport and physical activity as an important and valuable aspect of their lives that they will sustain throughout their adulthood. ON LINE INFORMATION This on line course will take place using Zoom video and audio conferencing service. If you do not have a Zoom account please download the free app from the internet prior to the course using the following address www.zoom.us . Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership will send you the link to the zoom meeting a few days prior to the course date for security reasons along with all the course material. Please do not share this link with another party. Only people booked onto the course will be admitted to the scheduled zoom meeting. GDPR By registering for this workshop your name, email and D.O.B will be shared with Sport Ireland. This information is required to produce your certificate of completion. Theater
Citysong by Carys D. Coburnby arrangement with Nick Hern Books Directed by Charlotte Tiernan, with the first-year students of the B.A. (Hons) in Drama (Performance), TU Dublin Conservatoire Citysong is a play. It’s a poem. It’s a chorus of voices showing us three generations of a Dublin family on one day, and it turns out one day holds the entire past. There are teen discos, late night taxis, home nurses, Jewish launderettes, vigilantes, babies, immigrants, seagulls. It’s intimate and sweeping, it’s cerebral and compassionate, it’s joyous and ridiculous. It’s modern day Dublin’s Under Milk Wood via Metamorphoses. (Not the book about the cockroach.) It’s different things at different times, which makes sense seeing as it’s about change. Transformations. Births and deaths, sunderings and returns, time and love. ScheduleTU Dublin Black Box Theatre, East Quad, Grangegorman Lower, Dublin 7 Wednesday 9th April at 7.00pm Thursday 10th April at 7.00pm Friday 11th April at 7.00pm General Admission €12.00 Carys D. Coburn is a trans writer from Dublin. Their work is political, playful, funny, angry, strange. They were the winner of the Verity Bargate Award 2017 for Citysong — co-produced by Soho Theatre, the Abbey Theatre, and Galway International Arts Festival. Other plays include Absent The Wrong (Best Production at Dublin Fringe 2022) and HOTHOUSE (Best Production at Dublin Fringe 2023). One of the founders of MALAPROP, their work together won acclaim for its distinctive blend of nerdiness and tenderness. Other work with MALAPROP includes Where Sat The Lovers, Before You Say Anything, and Everything Not Saved. Information Source: TU Dublin Conservatoire | eventbrite

80th Anniversary of Our Lady's Choral Society with Haydn's Seven Last Words | Church of the Immaculate Conception - Adam and Eve's

Join us for the 80th Anniversary of Our Lady's Choral as we perform Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross at the Church of the Immaculate Conception - Adam and Eve's. It's going to be an afternoon filled with beautiful music and celebration. Don't miss out on this special event with soloists: Katy Kelly (sop); Raphael Mangan (Alto) ; Andrew Gavin (Tenor); John Molloy (Bass)! Every Lent, the tradition in the Spanish Cathedral in Cádiz was for the Bishop to deliver from the pulpit, a discourse on each of the Seven Last Words of Our Saviour. After each discourse, music was performed to allow meditation. In 1786 Fr. José Sáenz de Santa Maria, who had reconditioned the Oratorio de la Santa Cueva, invited Haydn to compose music for the service. The challenge for Haydn was to compose seven suitable, contrasting, slow movements while holding the attention of the listener. He was so successful that the priest sent him a cake as payment. Inside the cake, however, were gold coins. Some eight years later, on his way to London for the second time, Haydn heard a revised version of his work made by the Music Director in Passau, Joseph Friebert. He included a chorus. The composer was much impressed but decided to improve on it, preparing his own choral version. Apart from the seven meditations, or sonatas, there are three orchestral movements - an introduction, an Interlude (between Numbers four and five) and a final movement Il Terromoto, representing theearthquake that happened when Christ died Information Source: Our Lady's Choral Society | eventbrite

Better a bare foot than none see’s Katarzyna Perlak’s 'tender crafts’ series explore how heritage and traditional handwork practices can be re-imagined from contemporary feminist, queer and migrant perspectives. Perlak’s Pajaki sculptures, a starting point for the exhibition, are a material manifestation of Polish tradition. The paper chandeliers, also known as 'spiders', are hung to protect the home, and are historically crafted for Christian, Pagan and folk celebrations. Work with exhibiting artist Katarzyna Perlak to learn embroidery stitches and make a handkerchief like one from the artist's Bated Breath series, an ongoing series that form a stitched archive, using politcal moments or a proverbs that have personal significance. The handkerchief holds many symbolic meanings relating to both personal and communal codes. Often seen as a tool for containing bodily fluids and emotion, it has also been used through history as a method of communication, ritualistically in traditional folk dances, and as a code for sexual preference in the LGBTQ+ community. Participants can bring a handkerchief that belongs to them or a handkerchief can be provided. This is an adult workshop, no experience necessary. This workshop is for a small group and so confirmation of attendance will be required one week before the workshop. Bated Breaths (2020–ongoing) is a series of embroidered handkerchiefs with twenty five completed works and new ones in making. Each work presents a different proverb, saying or a quote citing a family, friend, lover, or a stranger. This series archives current and historical moments and is considering how the formation of these phrases reveal intersections of personal histories, collective memory and cultural etiquette. Better a bare foot than none presents Katarzyna Perlak’s tender crafts series, exploring how heritage and traditional handwork practices can be re-imagined from contemporary feminist, queer and migrant perspectives. Considering the contradictions within problematic social movements in Poland, as well as her own longing for home, Perlak utilises the feeling of nostalgia to imagine new possibilities for the future. Katarzyna Perlak’s exhibitions include Liverpool Biennial (2025); V&A Museum, London (2024); Whitechapel Gallery, London (2023); B3 Biennial of Moving Image, Frankfurt (2023); Brent Biennial, London (2022); Jerwood Arts, London (2021); Detroit Art Week (2019); BALTIC, Gateshead (2017); Diaspora Pavilion, 57th Venice Biennale (2017) Event location information: Studio 6 will be dimly lit for the presentations with theatre style seating. It is located on the first floor and is accessible by lift. There is a semi-accessible toilet on the ground floor. Please note there is currently construction outside our gallery.
