L’inspiration de cette photo est venue de la création de Minimax, « Repertorium für Militärorchester » du compositeur Paul Hindemith, qui parodie un concert d’orchestre militaires : en effet, les six mouvements de l’œuvre reproduisent le répertoire standard de ce type d’ensemble, dont deux marches, une ouverture, une pièce de caractère, un intermezzo et une valse. De plus, chaque mouvement est une parodie d’une pièce spécifique, imitant la forme et le style de l’original, se moquant tout autant de leurs lourdeurs ou faiblesse que du cérémonial qui y est impliqué.
