Cormac Breatnach is an innovative and influential whistle player rooted in traditional Irish music. As well as releasing seminal albums with his group Deiseal, Cormac has recorded extensively with musicians such as Dónal Lunny, Máire Breatnach and Steve Cooney, and songwriters such as Thom Moore, Sonny Condell, Pierce Turner and Elvis Costello. His playing features on the orginal Riverdance Track as well as on various movie soundtracks including The Secret of Roan Inish and The War of the Buttons. Martin Dunlea has played in folk, rock and blues bands in Ireland, UK and the USA. He feaures on Mick Kinsella's album Harmonica and his guitar playing can also be heard on Gavin Friday's and Maurice Seezer's orginal soundtrack to the film Disco Pigs. Martin has also released a solo album When the Present and the Past Align. Cormac and Martin met in late 1998, and in July 2000 they released their first duet album entitled Music for Whistle and Guitar to critical acclaim. Active Bystander training is an effective way to empower people to address and prevent harassment and discrimination in a workspace. It equips workers with the right knowledge, tools and motivation to intervene safely and stop inappropriate behaviour before it rises to the level of unlawful harassment. This in-person workshop, designed for artists, creatives and arts workers in the arts and creative sectors in Ireland, is led by Professor Louise Crowley, Professor of Law at UCC and Director of the UCC Bystander Intervention Programme, and leading policy analyst and consultant Olwen Dawe, who has an established track record in developing and implementing equality, diversity and inclusion projects. Date & time: Thurs 6 March, 10am - 1pm Location: Dublin city, venue to be confirmed Duration: 3 hrs duration, with a tea/coffee break. Cost: Free of charge for anyone working in the arts and creative sectors in Ireland Travel Bursaries: A limited number of travel bursaries are available to cover the travel costs to attend this workshop, if you are based outside of the city of Dublin. With more than 30 years experience, Frantic Assembly has developed into one of the UK's most successful and best loved theatre companies. Fiercely committed to inclusive and collaborative practice, Frantic Assembly is about telling stories to empower and connect. This subsidised in-person event will take place at the School of Education Trinity College Dublin, where you'll have the opportunity to learn cutting-edge physical theatre techniques, engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and network with teachers, creatives and researchers from diverse fields. We are thrilled to welcome the incredible Steve Kirkham to Dublin to lead the workshops on both days. Steve works in all forms of movement and choreography for film, television and theatre, and teaches nationally and internationally for Frantic Assembly. He was a principal dancer with Matthew Bourne's New Adventures for over 20 years, creating original roles in Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Play Without Words and Edward Scissorhands. Credits include Hadestown and Here Lies Love at the National Theatre (associate choreographer) and The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time in the West End (associate movement director for Frantic Assembly). He was associate movement coach on the film World War Z, the BBC series His Dark Materials and Pilgrim for Lucasfilm. He has made concert appearances throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America, including performances at Boston Symphony Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Seoul Arts Center, the Temppeliaukio Kirkko in Helsinki and the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro. As soloist he has performed under such maestros as Neil Varon, David Effron, Paul Nadler and Roberto Tibiriçá. A devoted chamber musician, he has collaborated with esteemed artists including John Sharp, Joseph Swensen, Atar Arad, Mark Kaplan, Peter Stumpf, the Fry Street Quartet, and composer PQ Phan. Andreas has received enthusiastic reviews by the Boston Globe and his performances have been broadcast on television and radio across three continents. Having been a prize winner in the BNDES International Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro and the Hastings International Piano Competition in the UK, he has more recently turned his attention to recording projects, including a 2-disc album released by NAXOS in 2020 in honor of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. Andreas is currently Lecturer of Piano and Chamber Music at the Dublin Conservatoire (Technological University of Dublin) and has previously served as Lecturer of Piano at Munster Technological University in Cork, Ireland and at Indiana State University, USA. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of ChamberFest Brown County, a chamber music festival that seeks to inspire audiences in rural Indiana with classical music performance and education of the highest caliber. He holds a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University, mentored by legendary pianist Menahem Pressler. Additional teachers include Vladimir Viardo and Natalya Antonova. GILLIAN WILLIAMS One of Ireland's most accomplished violinists, Dublin-born Gillian Williams studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London under Professor David Takeno. In 1991 she successfully completed her postgraduate studies. As a student,she won all major competitions in Ireland, as well as the Louis Pesckai Memorial Prize at Guildhall for virtuoso playing. Commanding a wide-ranging repertoire, her characteristic warmth,intensity and clarity of tone have won her praise from audiences and critics alike.She has performed extensively throughout Ireland,as well as Britain,America and Italy while her numerous solo performances at the NCH,Dublin,St James'Piccadilly etc, have included concerti by Mozart,Vivaldi, Bruch, Tchaikovsky with conductors Colman Pearce,Gerhardt Markson and David Seaman. In her many recitals and broadcasts she has collaborated with renowned pianists Roger Vignoles, Philippe Cassard, Bernard Lansky (complete Brahms Sonatas at the National Gallery of Ireland-2005) and singers Regina Nathan and Mary Sheridan de Bruin. She regularly appears with her husband, cellist Arun Rao as the DUO CHAGALL. The duo gave World Premieres of works by Raymond Deane and Rhona Clarke (2000,2001) and is one of Ireland's longest running chamber group, also performing concerto repertoire (Brahms, Delius, Mozart) with the NSOI and other Irish orchestras. Ms Williams was leader and co-leader of the NSOI, RTE CO and ICO as well as festival and sessions orchestras. She is permanent leader of the Orlando Chamber Orchestra with whom she also featured as soloist in the 2006 MOZART Celebrations at the NCH and National Gallery of Ireland under its director Ite O'Donovan. As part of a series of celebratory events marking the naming of the Eavan Boland Library, an ‘In Conversation’ with poets Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin and Katie Donovan will take place on Tuesday, 11th March 4.30pm-5.30pm in Regent House, Trinity College Dublin (right at Front Arch). Eavan Boland’s poetry invites us to see the world 'in a different light'. Throughout her career as a poet she has illuminated many aspects of life’s experiences, throwing light on ordinary lives we often don’t see in plain sight. As one of Ireland’s foremost contemporary poets, the panelists will discuss her rich legacy. The event will be chaired by Dr Rosie Lavan, and is hosted by the Library of Trinity College in collaboration with the School of English. All are welcome, students, staff, alumni and the public.
