Dublin
Arts
Literary Arts
Join our Script Writing WorkshopTrailer For A Nation is a script writing workshop developed and taught by Kialy Thingang, a multdisciplinary Glasglow-based artist. The workshop explores how national identity is constructed, mythologised, and compressed into simplified narratives, just like a movie trailer. Inspired by Kialy’s film Neyinka and the Silver Gong (2024), participants will examine how speculative fiction can reimagine erased histories and challenge dominant national myths. Through the sharing of Kialy’s research and some creative exercises, participants will craft their own “trailers” for alternate histories, exploring the way film marketing techniques mirror the selective storytelling of national identity. The workshop will take place on Sunday, the 30th of March from 4 -5:30 pm at the Fumbally Stables, loft. This workshop programme is for Black people and people of colour who are new to writing. Including those who do not identify as writers but who have an interest in pursuing Registration is necessary for attendance. Information Source: Sistren Space | eventbrite

After working in retail for 10 years Shane Clifford decided, on a whim, to upload some silly videos to the internet. The videos dealt with issues such as mental health and masculinity through an original, absurd and most of all funny lens and after accidentally attracting a small, but devoted, following he decided to give stand up a go. In the 3 years since he nervously stepped on stage in a tiny room in Killarney and told jokes to 4 American tourists, he has risen quickly performing all over Ireland and appearing at major Irish comedy festivals including Castlepalooza, Cork Comedy Festival and the Vodafone Comedy Festival. In 2018 Shane was a finalist at the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? final at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in October he performed his first solo hour, “Shane’s Brilliant Stand Up Show”, to a sold out audience in Whelans, Dublin. Having achieved so much in such a short period it is clear that Shane has become one of the most original and exciting new acts in Irish comedy. Emman Idama is a Nigerian born Irish comedian, who has been performing around the UK and Ireland with his unique storytelling skills. The 2019 Chortle Student Comedy Award Finalist, finds a way to bring audiences into his life with laughter and wit. He has appeared on “Secrets of the Comedy Circuit” on UTV Northern Ireland, No Worries If Not!, Laughter In The Eye (filmed at the 2019 Galway Comedy Festival), Electric Picnic, Des Bishop’s This Is Ireland in 2016, The Year That’s In It 2015a on RTÉ Television, Try (YouTube Channel) and he has also appeared on a number of Foil Arms and Hog sketches such as Getting Past Irish Immigration, Countries Guess Who They Are and many more. A mainstay at festivals, he has performed at Latitude Festival, Electric Picnic, Forbidden Fruit Festival, Vodafone Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Cat Laughs Festival, Galway Comedy Festival, and too many others to count. A resident host at Stitches Comedy Club, the award-winning comedian has opened for acts such as Eric Cantona, Jamali Maddix, Seann Walsh, Seann Patton & many more. Paddy Armas is a Dublin based comic who has been doing comedy for around 2 years now. Despite his obvious depression he is recent winner of a bray gong show and has previously won the inaugural halfpenny inn comedy competition in 2021, a stitches gong and the Bailey Laughs St Patrick’s day gong show last year. You’ll see him at the major Dublin clubs talking about his bowels and continuing traumas. Not to be missed! Information Source: The Comedy Lodge | eventbrite
