The on-ice portion of the event will take place Saturday, May 3rd from 10 am-4 pm at the O'Malley Ice Centre. Picking the Teams: We are doing a bidding process again this year to pick team captains, allowing participants to bid for the right to pick their own team. Bidding takes place in the registration process and is blind. If you'd like to pick your own team and be a team captain you have one chance to place a bid in the registration process, the highest bid wins. Once the teams have been picked we will announce the teams and assign jersey colors and create an official schedule. Tournament Format: As requested, games will be slightly shorter this year, which means you fat fucks won't have to skate up and down the ice as many times. There will be FIVE games total, with 5 minutes between each game and a zam every 2 games. The format of 4 teams, round-robin style, full ice play is the same and will feature two 10 minute periods per game. After the round-robin games we will tally up points to determine who will play in the ship (see offical rules). The championship game will consist of two 12 minute periods. Once the winner is determinded, friends and family will be invited on the ice for an open skate, as the champions do a couple of laps with the hardware (see photo below), and get photo with wives, girlfriends, kids, and groupies. Tournament Program: Once rosters are finalized we will go to print with the official event program so the fans can follow the action of their favorite players on the ice. These Learn to Ride sessions are designed to help children aged 5+ (or those who attend full-time school) to learn to ride a pedal bike without stabilisers. Please bring your own bike in roadworthy condition, with stabilisers removed, and a helmet. We are able to offer two sessions per child ONLY so please book onto a maximum of two dates. Originally intended for another director, this spellbinding story only came under his care after global events reshaped its destiny. Howl’s Moving Castle, like many other Ghibli films, finds its roots in a European children’s book, in this case Diana Wynne Jones’ 1986 book of the same name. It was an important book for the New Mythology movement, which is defined by the emergence of a new heroic archetype that transcends old cultural concepts and confronts them with modern ideals. The central character, Sophie Hatter, with her courage and determination in the face of difficulty, is an ideal New Mythology hero. Sophie also fits neatly into the Miyazaki canon of brave, capable female leads - with a unique and interesting twist. Miyazaki’s adaptation, however, adds his signature touch: a poignant anti-war message, breathtaking artistry, and one of Studio Ghibli’s rare adult romances. The Dumyat Hill Race is the University of Stirling's flagship running event, and a popular fixture on the Scottish hill running calendar. This race provides a fun, challenging event set around our beautiful campus. The University of Stirling student and staff tradition has now become a staple in the Scottish Hill Running calendar. The Dumyat Hill Race doubles as the Scottish Student Sport Hill Running Championship and Scottish Hill Running Race. The Future Forest Company (sister organisation to Trees not Tees), are on a mission to plant enough trees by 2030 to remove 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Individually, trees are a powerful tool for carbon sequestration. As forests, they play an even more valuable role in supporting ecosystem regeneration and biodiversity. They are planting over 300,000 trees on the iconic Dumyat hillside estate, using a range of tree species, predominantly native broadleaf. Thanks to the City of Kwinana. Freestyle now will be facilitating a fun and informative coaching session at Kwinana Skatepark for skateboard and scooter participants. Our facilitators analyze the participants' skill level and work from that base and assist with confidence building. It is important to not only just focus on skill building but confidence as well. By using their own skill base as a stepping stone we are able to help them advance. Our coaches speak the participant’s language and speak on their level. Our instructors relay the importance of safety, the importance of helmets and how they can minimize injuries. Freestyle Now team members will be present to offer participants technical advice, trick tips, skill development and skatepark etiquette. Participants are split up into groups based on their skill level and what they are interested in achieving. All participants would need their own equipment, helmet and closed in shoes. Participants with defective equipment may not be able to participate. Our coaches may be able to assist with some minor adjustments (Scooter/BMX Bar straightening, skate/rollerskate truck/wheel tightening) before the session starts if required and time permitting. Participants under the age of 6 will be taken on their ability to understand and follow instructions and to control their apparatus. These Learn to Ride sessions are designed to help children aged 5+ (we can accept 4 year olds who attend full-time school) to learn to ride a pedal bike without stabilisers. Please bring your own bike in roadworthy condition, with stabilisers removed, and a helmet. We are able to offer two sessions per child ONLY so please book onto a maximum of two dates. These sessions are extremely popular and this makes it fair for all. Cost: £10.00 per session - we have had to increase our charges from 1 April 2024 to help cover the cost of the session. (Please note: If you cancel your place at short notice, we may not be able to give you a refund as we still have to pay for our venue and staff costs). You can have your say in helping us shape our 2024 programme of community craft activity as well. No experience is necessary for this workshop, all levels are welcome. This is a free workshop but booking is required, and any donations are welcome on the day.
