A double bill event in collaboration with TuzBiber with performances by Basak Layic and Sipan Sezgin Tekin. Divine Madness by Basak Layic is a new ritual performance where live music harmonises with theatrical storytelling, guiding the audience through the depths of madness and the divine feminine. Followed by Sipan Sezgin Tekin performing YEK/E — an interactive contemporary narrative performance conducted in the format of a language class. Başak Layic wears multiple hats as a theatermaker, storyteller, artistic director, and community builder. Born and raised in Istanbul, her endeavors continually captivate and unite audiences, highlighting the transformative influence of storytelling in bridging cultural gaps and fostering a profound understanding of humanity. After moving to the Netherlands in 2019, Başak became a household storyteller at Mezrab and later wrote her first play: The Millennial Immigrant, for the Amsterdam Fringe Festival, directed by Mara van Nes. This marked the beginning of a series of creative collaborations between the duo. Since then Basak has had the privilege of taking the stage in various Amsterdam venues as a storyteller. By infusing comedic moments into serious narratives, she strives to address the universal human condition and unite diverse audiences. Sîpan Sezgin Tekin, born in Amed, Kurdistan in 1996 and now based in Turkey and The Netherlands, is a performer, theater maker, and actor. As an artist and nomad, Tekin's exploration of meaning is expressed through a fusion of performance, choreography, sound, and documentary, drawing from an oral tradition of narrative and storytelling. His work provides dynamic reflections on political and existential realities, weaving together mythological and real stories to craft experimental narrative performances, blurring the boundaries between fiction and reality. Tekin examines the political dynamics of language as a power dynamic and delves into identity politics, exploring themes of multilingualism and the embodiment of language in performance for enhanced accessibility and narrative diversity. Join us for a 2 days session to create Urban Landscapes with oil paint. We will Start of with a quick oil painting tutorial +/_ 30mins. Everyone brings a series of three pictures from an urban setting that captures there eye. Preferably a scene containing a sense of dept. A scene with a clear fore- and background. You can also use your mobile device for inspiration. We will get to know how to apply dept to a scene in a painting, both in line, layers and colors. We teamed up with illustrator Julia Verhoef (Juultekent) to think of fun and funky designs to print on your jacket.The jackets are made out of beautiful thick cotton and can be worn as a jacket or belted as a top. The sizes are good for a woman's small, medium and large (depending on your shoulder width).Give these beauties a new life! We will create everything from scratch; starting with your own blocks, design and finally your own bookmark. No prior experience in handicrafts is necessary. During this workshop, you will be able to complete 1-2 bookmarks and will have a tool kit to use for your personal projects at home. Latvian culture: Latvian culture is rich with handicrafts. It shapes the foundation of their national identity. People are proud of their deep-rooted traditions and connection to nature. Today the land and inherited knowledge are highly respected and appreciated, too. Traditional patterns and symbols are used for empowerment and protection in interior and fashion. Handcrafting is a fun activity, but it's also a ritual to connect to nature, ancestors and creative energy. About the artist: SantaSimulecomes from a culture where handicrafts such as embroidery, knitting, sewing, and weaving were mastered every day. Many of these techniques were also taught at school. Her grandmother was a Queen of knitting. Watching her Santa's admiration towards the hand-made, self-made craft grew stronger day by day. Art has been by Santa's side since she was a little girl. After receiving a diploma from a local art school in applied and fine arts, she continued at the Baltic International Institute in Riga, where she studied advertisement design. One year in Athens, Greece as an exchange student. Soon after graduation, she realized computers were not her passion. She embarked on a self-discovery journey that led her to explore many different practices—both artistic and self-growth. While on this path, she received a diploma in arts and crafts from an art institute in New Delhi, India, and fell in love with creating with hands again. Her attention was mostly on mozaïek, quilling, hand sewing, paper mache and intuitive paintings. Today, with art still by her side, Santa delves deeper into the healing properties of creative expression. She continues practicing different art forms and facilitates dot painting workshops and clothing repair workshops. Who can attend? Everyone is welcome to the tours. However, the content of the chosen exhibition/topic may not be suitable for children up to a certain age. It is advised to discuss this with the curator beforehand. KinoClub 'We komen van ver’ In de documentaire We komen van ver (2024) vertellen vier jonge nieuwkomers over de impact van onvrijwillige migratie tijdens hun adolescentie. Aan tafel delen zij voor het eerst hun verhalen over de weg die zij hebben afgelegd om te komen waar ze nu zijn. De jongeren maken een audiovisuele reis langs sociale hindernissen en persoonlijke overwinningen. Dit toont hun eigen veerkracht, maar ook hoe bepalend het inlevingsvermogen van anderen is bij het opbouwen van een volwassen bestaan in de Nederlandse samenleving. Common Frames Bij Common Frames houden we enorm van film en van media maken. Wij geloven dat je sterker staat in deze maatschappij als je weet hoe je media kunt maken. Dat geldt voor iedereen, maar vooral ook als je nieuw bent in Nederland. Daarom doen we film- en mediaprojecten met (jonge) nieuwkomers. Team Dit project wordt gemaakt onder de artistieke projectleiding van Sanne Sprenger in co-creatie met Gaid Abdo, Remy Nyamukabakaba, Angelina Budkina en Ha Bui. Hun verhalen staan centraal in het project. Zij worden bij het maakproces ondersteund door Mette Christiaanse, Kiek Prins, Ayaz Saadatpour Vahid, Mohammad Amin Mollazadeh, Kais Almohamed en Imeel Bagdi Sar.
