Peter Wiegold has led workshops all over the world - with traditional Japanese musicians in Tokyo, Indian musicians in Delhi with the London Symphony Orchestra and, for 10 years with the wonderful musicians of Club Inégales as they have played alongside guests from all over the world. And now here’s a chance to work with him and Club Inégales musicians, as he brings all those influences into a session. He has a unique way of working that embraces everybody in the room grooves, with textures, using conducting signals so people copy or solo or go free! It is a unique form of leadership - and you could get to try that here! What is Argentine Tango? Argentine tango is an improvised dance that relies on each dancer listening and carefully observing the other. The combination is art. To play, a couple must listen to each other and be inspired by the music. The leaders signal the followers, who interpret through their bodies, and the couple moves to the music as a single entity. Each dancer could be moving in different directions, with many possibilities of movement, and the multiple combinations are like a game of chess, complex but beautiful. What will I learn in class, and what are the practical requirements? As you step into the world of Argentine tango, remember the importance of preparation. In our classes, you'll learn the walk, dissociation, pivoting, change of weight, and the embrace. But before you start, make sure you're equipped with the right footwear-leather or suede soles or socks. This will enhance your performance and protect your knees from potential damage. Join us for a Special Dance Photography Workshop with the Nutcracker theme and more.... This is our 3rd year presenting Nutcracker themed dance photorgaphy workshop! Excited! This event is for photographers of all levels intending to practice or perfecting photographing dancers as they perform. What fun to create a space to shoot some of the nutcracker moves at we step in to the Nutcracker season in December. What to expect: Tori and Jafet will dance short pieces from different segments of Nutcracker. They will perform, repeat, pause and pose and hold. There will be various lifts, jumps, pirouettes and beautiful poses. We repeat segments so that you can try out different techniques, check your shots and make changes, switch spots, etc. We start with a duet work and then we will move on with solo performance segments with each dancer and we end with a duet. The workshop is curated by Sangeeta Yesley, Director at Creative Performances. Govfest brings together hundreds of artists, artisans, musicians, and volunteers from across the province of Ontario.
