THE WORKSHOP: These creative writing poetry workshops, led by Hannah Norris, will encourage you to see and hear poetry everywhere: shopping lists, WhatsApps, pub toilet graffiti and conversations overheard on public transport. Together, we will find inspiration by unlocking clues from the works of traditional and contemporary poets, as well as mining from our own experiences and surroundings. You will be warmly welcomed to this supportive community, whether it’s your first time writing poetry or you have been writing it for many years. The sessions will take place on the first Thursday of every month and each month will have a different theme and set of prompts, which you are welcome to interpret as loosely as you like - or ignore altogether, in favour of your own creative impulses. Freedom is key here! THE TUTOR: Hannah Norris (she/her) describes herself as an ‘obsessive diary writer’ who turns this material into poetry. She started writing poetry to help navigate her grief following a bereavement. Hannah also loves to write about the foul-mouthed women in her family and the more mundane parts of life, from batch cooking to soulless retail parks. Hannah’s poetry has been featured in Left Lion, JARG, Streetcake, Postscript, Moonflake Press, Black Cat Poetry Press and on BBC Radio Merseyside. Hannah enjoys writing poetry that rips up the rulebook around rhyme, stanzas and line breaks. Her favourite poet is Hera Lindsay Bird. THE DETAILS: This event will be taking place at Nottingham Central Library. It's a very friendly group who often head to the pub afterwards. No experience needed! Comedy
Show in Spanish. A scene-by-scene synopsis in English will be available. It will be followed by a Q&A in English and Spanish. Synopsis: Why do words affect us so much? Alex O'Dogherty wonders in this funny monologue about the power of words. Imbecile comes from the Latin and means fragile, weak and vulnerable. Alex hates being like that! So that is why, in this show, Alex is committed to talking about the power of words or, more specifically, about the power we have when we use them. A word is just a collection of letters, but it can make you laugh, cry, be surprised, blush, fall in love, make you angry... Well, not the word, but the person who uses it. Together, we will try to find out if we can stop being affected by words, or if we are doomed to be perfect IMBECILES. In this show, Alex talks about words, sweet words and swear words. He talks of what is said with words and what is said without them, of people's ability to offend and to be offended, and of the right to be and to act the IMBECILE, which also means fool, clown, funny... And Alex loves to be like that! Age: Suitable for all ages Running Time:100 mins, no interval. Followed by a Q&A with Alex Company: MPC management Website: https://alexodogherty.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AlexOdoghertyOficial Instagram: @alexodgherty, @mpcmanagement X (Twitter): @AlexODogherty, @CFAlexOdogherty, @MPC_management Authour: Alex O’Dogherty Scipt and Music: Alex O’Dogherty Artistic Director: Rafael Lucas & Alex O'dogherty Costumes: Rafael Solís Scenography: Scnik Móvil Important: FesTeLõn is an organisation that relies exclusively on ticket sales and your generous donations.
