Hazel and Kim are delighted to have the opportunity to participate in this artist residency at Lobe, which offers the perfect space to explore connection, ecoculture, and the power of sound to transcend boundaries between species. Together they will be joined by Kei Tatsuno, who is currently studying in Douglas College’s Music Technology program and has a keen interest in the healing and therapeutic aspects of music. Using a combination of sampler, synthesizer, and recorded instruments, Kei will create a healing immersive sound bath to open Seeds at Lobe. Please note: We are unable to accommodate late-comers once the show has started, due to the nature of the performance. About Seeds The aesthetic object is inwardness as such—it is each thing as ‘I' ....I-sea angel, I-moon jelly, I-salp, I-frog, I-glass. In Seeds , Kim Trainor presents poetry films from her most recent collection, A blueprint for survival (Guernica Editions, 2024). Soundscapes are composed by Hazel Fairbairn, in consort with our more than human kin: tardigrade, raven, lentil, sea slug, oldgrowth specklebelly lichen, megaptera novaeangliae. Each organism is considered as a being in itself, offering inspiring models for human adaptation and survival in the face of ecological existential threat. These soundscapes are a form of co-making with other species, using filtered sounds, data transduction, and musical textures in an immersive exploration of the power of sound to connect. About Kim Trainor is a poet whose poetry films have screened at festivals worldwide, including at the Zebra Poetry Film Festival 2020 (Berlin), the 9th International Film Festival at +the Institute (Athens), as well as in Dublin, Seattle, Copenhagen, and Houston, Texas. Her work considers sympoiesis with our more-than-human kin. Hazel Fairbairn is a fiddle, viola, and violin player/sound artist, who works with electronic regenerations and manipulations of acoustic sources and instruments. With roots in Irish Folk music, and a PhD in ethnomusicology, Hazel is endlessly curious about the way sound connects cultures, migrations, and the natural world.

MRG Live presents Mount Eeriewith guests, RaganaFebruary 13th, 2025The Rickshaw Theatre19+Doors: 7:00pmMount Eerie I grew up five miles into the woods outside the island town of Anacortes, Washington during the 80's and 90's in a post-hippie echo that normalized saying hello out loud to the nearby mountains, waters and animals. As a teenager, entering the world of music and creation through the door that punk tore open, I finally found my people in Olympia. I lived there for 5 years and released records as the Microphones with the K label. Now I make Mount Eerie records, since 2003, and release them myself on a fake record label, stubbornly still DIY to the bone. I have a devotion to this life of creativity and subversion that has never wavered. These songs and works dig down into the bedrock of this place and try to bring forth a fresh exhale, a big picture glimpse, small beneath the sky, clear water trickling. - Phil Elverum, Mount Eerie RaganaRagana is a duo whose members alternate duties on drums, guitar, and vocals to produce some of the most unique and affecting dark music in metal today. The two-piece came together in 2011 in the DIY punk scene of Olympia, WA.
Held together by an intense focus on raw emotion and haunting atmospherics, Ragana shifts seamlessly from tender, mesmerizing vocal harmonies to piercing, heart-ripping screams and back again, yielding a highly idiosyncratic take on black metal that is heavy, beautiful and punishing all at once. The Rickshaw presents FEAR - 40 Years of More Beerwith guests, Dead Bob and The Vicious CyclesMarch 30th, 2025The Rickshaw Theatre19+Doors: 7:00pmFEARLegends. Formed in 1978 in Los Angeles, they shaped not only the sound Punk Rock, but defined the attitude and style which countless others mimic to this day, FEAR was the first punk rock band to grace national television in North America via Saturday Night Live on Halloween 1981, courtesy of John Belushi, leaving the studio set in shambles. FEAR remain on the permanently banned list from Saturday Night Live to this very day, and are ranked the number one musical performance in the show’s robust history by Rolling Stone Magazine. Their first album has sold over 500,000 copies and is considered to be one of he top ten punk rock albums of ALL TIME. FEAR’s frontman Lee Ving is also an accomplished actor with appearances in several large budget Hollywood film’s such as “Flashdance”, “Clue”, “Streets Of Fire”, and over 30 other films and television programs. Former members of FEAR have gone on to play with “Red Hot Chili Peppers”, “Frank Zappa”, “The Breeders”, and Frank Black & The Catholics”. Dead BobDead Bob is the solo incarnation of John Wright, drummer from long time and apparently legendary but now retired Punk rock band No Means No. Life Like, a NMN cover actually, is the first album John has released on his own. Though primarily written and performed by John he can’t take all the credit having engaged the help of several friends to get this thing done. Recorded and Produced by John in the wilds of British Columbia, this album's material spans several decades and there is a lot more in the archives. As might be expected the songs roll out cohesively but defy the cookie cutters and pigeon holes hence Genre is a tough one to convey but one thing that is not unclear is it is not to be listened to quietly! The Vicious CyclesLong time Vancouver, Canada favorites The Vicious Cycles play hook-heavy singalong moto-anthems. They are punk rockers born in the garage, delivering songs straight from a rock-n-roll heart! There is chaos. Sometimes there is fire. Things get burnt. Everyone has a good time. Two albums, a touring period, and a rude awakening to the realities of the music business have all come and gone but the live shows live on with just enough infrequency to keep their devoted fan base coming back in droves. The band prefers to keep the labelling obtuse and unofficially list influences as bands such as Lynard Skynyrd, Neil Young, and John Prine. Dec 9, 2023 (UTC-6)ENDED
Hastings
Join the December 9 Paint Your Pet Project at The Quarry Taphouse in Hastings. This no-experience-required art class is perfect for all pet lovers. Trained, local artists will guide you through the process of creating a frame-worthy keepsake of your furry friend. Whether you have art experience or not, anyone can participate in this fun-filled event. All supplies are included, and a professional artist will walk you through color mixing and painting techniques to ensure your pet's fur and features are just right. Don't worry about guesswork or pressure; this class is designed to be enjoyable and stress-free.
To get started, simply send in a high-resolution digital photo of your pet to Info@PaintandSipMN.com. Make sure the photo is uncropped and features your pet in a full-body shot with an uncluttered background. This will ensure that the proportions are correct in the finished portrait. Using your photo, a grayscale outline of your pet will be printed onto a custom canvas, which will be ready for you when you arrive at the event.
During the class, your artist will teach you various painting techniques, including how to paint backgrounds, realistic fur, and little wet noses. Seating is first come, first served, so make sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time to order food and a drink and get comfortable. Please note that this event is for ages 21 and older with a valid ID required to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages.
Tickets for the December 9 Paint Your Pet Project at The Quarry Taphouse are $60 each. Please register early, as events may sell out or get canceled. All sales are final, but if you are unable to attend and can't find a friend to take your place, you can request store credit by emailing Info@PaintAndSipMN.com at least 24 hours prior to your class time. By purchasing a ticket and attending, you understand that your photo may be taken at any time and used for promotional purposes. Don't miss this opportunity to create a beautiful tribute to your pet and enjoy a fun afternoon of painting.
