Cultural Experiences
"In Xcrawl, the players are superstar athletes taking their chances in a live-on-pay-per-view death sport. It’s a modern-day world with a fantasy twist, and the game is simple: the Dungeon Judge, or DJ, creates an artificial dungeon under controlled – but lethal – conditions. He designs the maze, and stocks it with monsters, secret doors, magical traps, treasure and prizes. The players must go through the dungeon and fulfill whatever conditions the DJ puts forth in order to win." This game will be run by local legend Shane "Kablooey" Madgett and is a dungeon dive set in Calgary. It will be a playtest for his upcoming Calgary based XCRAWL Funnel. No experience is needed, but this will be a more crunchier game with some focus on rules, so come prepared to learn. "Using handmade terrain and minis, help me dramatize a perilous journey underground, a struggle that should have been just a regular day’s work! Your team of healers supports a military force securing the old temple-town of Innis Essen. Your job is the easy one, following a squad of veteran fighters who neutralize enemy units and secure danger zones. Better yet, the long struggle to retake the old city seems finally to be winding down. Though no one knows quite why, and no great victory by your forces turned the tide, the opposition has begun to collapse. But the reason hardly matters to you or your weary compatriots. As you head into what you hope is your final mission, your well-earned rest seems at hand. What could go wrong? NOTE: The adventure will contain some darker themes and imagery and may be inappropriate for some players. Player limits and preferences will be respected." Pregenerated characters will be provided. Some prior experience with D&D 5e is requested. This specific table is geared towards folks looking to dive into an immersive and complex game of narrative and rules blending. Players will be provided a 5th level character created using multiple expansion books, an understanding of the mechanics and being able to keep track of a character sheet is strongly recommended. There are other tables at the convention better suited for newer adventerers looking to learn the ropes.
