Buddy Holly Tribute: Rocky Ridge YMCA | Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, BMO Theatre
May 17, 2025 (UTC-7)
Calgary
“Zachary Stevenson nails the rock 'n' roll legend in a full-throttle tribute that fires on all cylinders” -The Vancouver Sun The Buddy Holly Tribute is a dynamite two-act show featuring such hits as “That’ll Be the Day”, “Peggy Sue”, “Oh Boy and “Rave On”. Stevenson presents Buddy Holly so perfectly that we seem to be watching a genuine replica of the nerdy, and hip young Texan. He has the guitar licks down to a “t” and his superb vocals make him equally comfortable with the sweet ballads or on-the-edge rock-a-billy songs… including Holly’s trademark hiccup and energetic dance moves that often brings the audience to their feet. “Zachary Stevenson… is the epitome of effortless cool with a gorgeous voice and a star-quality stage presence.” - Vancouver Presents. Having led a dozen sell-out productions of the Buddy Holly Story across Canada and the US with well over a thousand performances under his belt, Stevenson is a true showman who exudes charm and knows how to connect with an audience. In 2018, he was awarded a Jeff Award in Chicago for most outstanding lead performance in a musical. “If you don’t like him, you don’t like much of anybody.” -Chicago Tribune Above Beyond the music, Zachary weaves in engaging stories about Buddy and his personal experience in the role including his travels to Iowa, New Mexico and Texas seeking a greater understanding of the man and his music. He gives context to the songs and pays tribute to Buddy’s friends- The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, Dion and Eddie Cochrane and delivers a dynamic show uniquely his own. Zach will have the audience singing along to “Teenager in Love”, sighing over “True Love Ways” and dancing to the “Hand Jive” in a captivating performance that transcends the generation gap and proves Buddy’s music is timeless and will “Not Fade Away”. “Stevenson… is proof that Buddy Holly lives.” -WTTW Chicago 10% discount on tickets purchased before September 1, 2024

Buddhist Refuge Retreat | Akshobya Kadampa Buddhist Centre
May 18, 2025 (UTC-6)
Calgary
Retreat Information
Buddha taught how all of our problems and unhappiness are rooted in negative states of mind such as anger, attachment, and confusion. Unless we learn practical methods to let go of these negative minds it will be impossible for us to experience real freedom and happiness, and we will find that we are unable to maintain a happy mind when things are not going well for us in life.
On this partially guided retreat, we will engage in meditations to help us develop deep faith in the Three Jewels – Buddha, Dharma (Buddhist teachings), and Sangha (the spiritual community). By going for refuge to the Three Jewels we can overcome our negative states of find, find mental stability, and permanent freedom from our problems. Seeking refuge in the Three Jewels is the essence of the Buddhist way of life.
It’s highly recommended that you attend the day course on Saturday and the guided retreat on Sunday to understand clearly what to do on this mostly unguided retreat.

Clay Club Sampler | 110 3 Ave SE
May 18, 2025 (UTC-6)
Calgary
Clay Club offers an affordable and accessible space for individuals to learn fundamental ceramic hand-building techniques. All proceeds benefit Good Neighbour's free clothing store, which provides clothing, food, and other essential items to those in need.
TICKET INFO
Sampler Ticket:
Come try out Clay Club with our one-time sampler ticket! You get two hours of making and one hour to paint your work with our coloured underglazes. You'll get 1.5 LBS of Clay to start. Bring your own ideas of what you'd like to make. No experience necessary!
HOW IT ALL WORKS
You will receive hands-on assistance from our facilitator as needed. However, we do not offer structured lessons or specific project teachings.
If you are looking for more structured and in-depth learning, please check out our 4-week beginner hand-building course!
Clay Club is designed for you to bring your own creative ideas and is focused on independent practice.
Once you have finished making your pieces, they will be stored on our shelves until you are ready to return and paint them. For optimal results, we recommend applying underglaze when the clay is bone dry, it takes about a week for the clay to completely dry. While you can paint your pieces when they are still wet, the colors may not be as vibrant or opaque. Please note that all pieces must be painted/fully finished before we proceed with firing. Alternatively, you may choose to have your pieces fired as-is, without painting. If you decide to wait for your pieces to dry first and paint on a later date, you will have to pre-register by purchasing our $20 ticket option.
We have all the tools and supplies needed to create, however, you’re welcome to bring your own tools.
We ask that you complete your projects within 2 months of your initial start date, as we have limited shelving space. We understand life can get busy, so please let us know if you're unable to return right away so we can accommodate you.
FIRING
We fire all completed work once a month to keep costs low. All pieces will be fired at the end of each month.
Example:
If you finish your pieces in November, they will be fired after the last Clay Club session of the month.
Firing and glazing ceramics is a time-consuming process, so it may take up to
four weeks
to complete all firings after the monthly cut-off date.
We will notify you via email once your pieces are fired and ready for pick-up.
As a private studio, we are only open to the public during scheduled class and event times. Our email will include specific days and times available for picking up your work.
Cancellation Policy
: Please provide at least 24 hours' notice so we can fill your spot. Tickets are final sale and non-refundable, but can be transferred to future dates.

If you have mobility or financial restrictions that could impede your participation in this program, don't hesitate to contact Kumiko Kamiike, Visitor Services Coordinator, at kumiko@friendsoffishcreek.org before you register.
This program is not intended to be a counselling session or therapy experience, but simply a time to walk in nature with others experiencing a shared transition path.
Regardless of the transition you are experiencing — be it the loss of a loved one, job or relationship, a significant change in health or mobility, or other deep changes in your life —spending time in nature with people who are on a similar journey can be just the support you need.
