This regular weekly class for older children is run by artist an experienced educator Bridget Seaton . Term 4 will run for 9 weeks every Thursday from 17 October - 12 December 2024 at Atwell House. The price is for the entire 9 week course. Painting and drawing are an important part of this class and is often the starting point for a project that follows one or two themes per term. This class extends beyond traditional painting and drawing and children are given the opportunity to try out different ways of working such as: print making, collage and mixed media work, bookbinding and craft, acrylic and water-based paints, pastels and pencil and occasional 3D modelling. Work is not purely representative, and students will have the opportunity to explore elements of design, abstraction, personal expression, decorative art, pattern and craft. Please bring an A3 heavy cartridge paper sketchbook to the first class - ALL OTHER MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED. This sketchbook will typically last for a few terms and can be stored at the centre. Through a series of guided demonstrations and exercises, Jane will introduce you to key techniques that bring energy and life to your pastel compositions. Inspired by the dynamic works of the Impressionists, you’ll learn how to use marks to create a sense of motion, depth, and vibrancy. Whether you are completely new to pastels or looking to experiment with fresh ideas, this workshop offers a relaxed and supportive space to play, create, and push your boundaries. No previous experience is necessary—just bring a sense of curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and your passion for art! All profits from our workshops enable our not-for-profit organisation to provide art for our community and vulnerable groups. She is a regular speaker for u3a and for community groups. Dr Lopacinski will talk about what dementia is; how to prevent it through our lifestyle; available treatments and the role of carers.
