To participate in Level 2, you must have already completed our introductory improv class on Thursdays. They will also learn the importance of active listening and being present on stage.
Level 2 focuses on deepening character work, teaching participants how to create more distinct and complex characters with unique traits, voices, and physicality. The class will also introduce the idea of "status" in scenes, where characters have different social positions or power dynamics.
Emphasizing scene work, Level 2 will teach actors how to develop more extended and structured scenes. This includes exploring different scene types, understanding how to heighten the comedic or dramatic elements, and knowing when and how to effectively edit or conclude scenes.
Participants will also learn more advanced improv games and exercises that challenge their creativity and adaptability. These games foster spontaneity and teamwork, requiring quick thinking.
Storytelling becomes a significant aspect of Level 2 improv, with participants learning how to create and maintain a narrative thread throughout a scene or performance. They will explore long-form improv, where multiple scenes are interconnected to form a more extended narrative.
In Level 2, actors will focus not only on developing their own characters and ideas but also on supporting their scene partners. They will learn how to make their fellow performers look good, ensuring a collaborative and successful scene.
Taking creative risks is encouraged in Level 2, allowing participants to experiment with different character choices and push the boundaries of what's possible in a scene.
Instructors will provide detailed feedback to help participants understand their strengths and areas for improvement, fostering individual growth and development as an improviser.
Culminating in live performances, Level 2 classes provide opportunities for students to apply their skills in front of an audience, building confidence and stage presence.
LEVEL 2 Improv Class at Newcastle Comedy Club is an important stage in an improviser's development, as it builds on the fundamentals introduced in Level 1 and prepares participants for more advanced improv techniques and performances.
