Introduction to Screen printing with Kathy Docker | Newcastle Printmakers Workshop

Join printmaker Kathy Docker for a one-day workshop, "Introduction to Screen printing with Kathy Docker," held at Newcastle Printmakers Workshop in Adamstown. This workshop, scheduled for Saturday, 3rd February 2024 from 10am to 3:30pm, offers a comprehensive introduction to the art of screen printing on paper.
During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of screen printing while focusing on botanical designs. Kathy Docker will guide attendees through the process of screen printing botanical elements such as leaves, grasses, dried flowers, and thin stems. Additionally, participants will create a monoprint of a leaf design for a card. At the end of the class, there will be a card-making demonstration.
The workshop fee is $110 for non-members and $100 for current NPW members. Please note that there is a separate materials fee of $15 payable to Kathy on the day of the workshop. Materials provided include six sheets of paper, acrylic paints suitable for screen printing, transparency sheets, a pre-coated silk screen, and a squeegee for printing.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own botanical images and ideas to work with. It is also recommended to wear an apron or old clothes as screen printing can get messy. Closed-in shoes are required for safety, and participants may bring their own safety goggles and earmuffs if desired.
Bookings for this workshop are essential as spaces are limited to four participants. Please be aware that a minimum of two participants is necessary for the workshop to proceed. In accordance with NPW's Covid Policy, the workshop will be sanitized before, during, and after the class. Participants must sign in, wash or sanitize their hands upon entering the workshop, and maintain physical distancing when possible.
About the tutor: Kathy Docker is an experienced printmaker with a passion for the art form. With over 10 years of experience, she specializes in silk screen printing on both paper and fabric.
