This event will be hosted by Tianna (they/them), Program Manager at the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library (OOGL). About this hikeThe trail we'll be enjoying is called Stonebridge Trail. The trail is an out n' back trail that takes 50 minutes to complete. You can review the route here. As we enter the forest, the dirt trail is mostly flat featuring a few slight gradual inclines and declines. There is 1 set of stairs (15 stairs) that leads to a wooden bridge. Expect to encounter roots, rocks, and plant debris (i.e., fallen twigs, sticks, or branches) on the path. Porta-potties are available at the side of the park's soccer field. You can use them before we begin or after we finish the hike. This hiking trail is transit accessible via the following OC Transpo routes: 75; 175; 176; 305; 671; 672; 675; 683. Parking is available for free on-site. Masks are not required for this outdoor event, but will be provided for those who wish to mask. About OOGLThe Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library is dedicated to providing equitable access to nature-based experiences, land-based programming, and outdoor recreation. We aim to serve people living with low incomes, racialized communities, 2SLGBTQ+ people, newcomers, youth, and anyone else who experiences barriers to outdoor activity. HOLY TOLEDO! LoST on the North Coast Inland Trail- a Smart-guided Cycle Tour in Northwest OhioGo long - go short - go in-between - or go HOLY TOLEDO! 4 options on this LoST cycling adventure on a historical northern Ohio rail-to-trail. The North Coast Inland Trail primarily follows a route built by the Toledo, Norwalk, and Cleveland Railroad (TN&C) from 1851-1853. The short (FREE), medium and long options of the LoST cover an 18-mile section of the NCIT (North Coast Inland Trail) through Lorain and Huron counties with a common tasty turnaround spot. These are mostly on paved-level rail-to-trails bikeways. The HOLY TOLEDO! option goes all the way to... Toledo... of course! This, too, has numerous miles of paved-level rails-to-trails bikeways except for segments of the NCIT that are not yet in place and western segments that are crushed stone/gravel. It has the same common tasty turnaround spot as the three above tours. But, it continues towards Toledo ...or as far as you can go before heading back to the starting spot. A brief online search will only tease the imagination and lead to numerous rabbit holes and a wild goose chase, or two, to investigate. You see where this is leading. Toledo is home to Jamie Farr - one of the stars of MASH, that long-running sitcom. Tony Packo's restaurant is included in the tour route -notable as a hangout of the star Farr, and the birthplace of the Hungarian hot dog. If you are ever in Toledo, Ohio, on the Hungarian side of town, Tony Packo’s got the greatest Hungarian hot dogs.” (~ Klinger, MASH) Home of the Hungarian hot dog, and the collection of hot dog buns signed by Burt Reynolds and numerous other celebrities over the decades. Join Peter Barberie, guest curator and Curator of Photographs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and artist Martha Posner in conversation as they discuss Posner’s artistic practice and the legacy of her late husband and renowned photographer Larry Fink, displayed side by side for the first time in Larry Fink / Martha Posner: Flesh and Bone. About the curator Peter Barberie is the Brodsky Curator of Photographs, Alfred Stieglitz Center, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Since 2005 he has organized more than 25 exhibitions and edited and authored six books and numerous other publications, many of which manifest his efforts to connect the museum with broad public audiences. His projects include Long Light: David Lebe (2019), a survey of Lebe’s experimental photography and pioneering work as a gay artist with AIDS; Paul Strand: Master of Modern Photography (2014), an in-depth retrospective of Strand’s photography and films that traveled to several European venues; and Zoe Strauss: Ten Years (2012), a mid-career survey of Strauss’s photography and her closely related efforts at public engagement. His most recent project, Richard Benson: The World Is Smarter Than You Are (2021), examined Benson’s photographs in the context of the artist’s printing, teaching, and writing. About the artist Martha Posner (born 1956) is a painter and sculptor who lives and works on a farm in Martins Creek, Pennsylvania. She takes much of her inspiration from the 250 acres of surrounding forest, fairy tales and mythology, and her many barnyard creatures. She has had solo exhibitions in the United States and abroad at Centro Cultural de Cooperacion, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Heidi Cho Gallery, New York City; The Allentown Art Museum, Allentown, Pennsylvania; The Hunterdon Museum of Art, Clinton, New Jersey; Albright College Museum, Reading, Pennsylvania; The Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham, Alabama and The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Ohio, among others. Her work is held by numerous private and public collections including The George Gund Foundation, The Allentown Art Museum, The Butler Museum of Art, Youngstown, Ohio; and the Great Northern Corporate Center, Cleveland, Ohio. She has received the Mary H. Dana Award from Rutgers University, The Experimental Printmaking Award from Lafayette College as well as Fellowships from The Ragdale Foundation and The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. He is the author of the acclaimed books Inside the Painter's Studio and Inside the Artist’s Studio (Princeton Architectural Press), which share an intimate view inside the studios of today’s leading artists. His work can be found in numerous museums and leading private collections including JP Morgan Chase, Dayton Art Institute, Parrish Art Museum, Norton Museum of Art, The New Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Toledo Museum of Art among others. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Boston Globe, Artforum, Art in America, and ArtNews as well as several international magazines. We usually do an out and back on the Meadowlark Trail, which comes out to 5 miles if we run all the way to the Oerman Roche trailhead. All women and LGBTQIA+ runners (or aspiring runners) are welcome to come. We usually run ~11-12 minute pace and walk intermittently. The trail, starting south of the Pierre Delorme Bridge, meanders through a bird sanctuary created by local couple Henriette and Richard Collette.
