Collage Night: Tuesday, September 24 | Issues Magazine Shop
Sep 24, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Dundas
Together, we'll invite the magic of collage to channel directly from our hearts through our hands.Create, cut and paste pieces with a myriad of materials—from contemporary to vintage, and everything in between!—to create memory. Craft a blessing, build a vision board or remix a love poem for things to come. The experience is the joy! Invite your curiosity out on date, or bring a kid, parent, partner or pal: collage is for everyone. No experience is necessary and all supplies are provided. Your hostAlanna Chelmick is a multi-disciplinary artist who creates with many mediums: paper, paint, makeup, textiles and the natural world. She is fuelled by nature and all its elements, animals on the ground to the sky, community care and connection. She finds joy in the smallest things and follows her intuition, moving around the world. Smiling at “strangers” is common. You will find her talking to birds, appreciating light and the way it dapples. Nearly thirty years ago, she was nicknamed Alanna of Love and it stuck. #whatwouldlovedonow @alanna_of_love The SpaceIssues Magazine Shop is an independent magazine retailer founded by Nicola Hamilton. 'The In Between' Tour: Valmy live at Collective Arts w/ special guest Just Graham | Collective Arts Toronto Taproom & Café
Oct 2, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Dundas
Join Valmy with special guest, Just Graham, on the Toronto stop of her solo tour across Eastern Canada in support of her debut album 'The In Between'. Doors 8pm // Show 8:30 Tickets: $15 advance // $20 at the Door Valmy is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Ontario who’s been following the ocean and making home on the East Coast. Exploring themes of wonder, loss, and healing, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark. Based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Valmy creates and performs by weaving nature-inspired melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing. Her debut full-length album ‘The In Between’ was independently released in September 2023 and warmly received listeners, with a thoughtful review from Tony Ploughman of Fred’s Records: “The rhythms and melodies wrap around the mind and soul like a lovingly patched quilt…There is a cohesiveness to this full album offering meditative musings on balancing ones own mental state in harmony with nature, the songs providing a methodical process to achieve that balance. And the underlying intensity to follow through on the beckoning of one’s thoughts and emotions to create is constant…Deftly produced, engineered and mixed, “The In Between” is one of 2023’s finest NL Releases”. This collection of songs was given new life with Valmy’s original arrangements and the performances of her esteemed band members, earning her a 2024 ECMA nomination and MusicNL awards for Alternative Artist, Solo Artist, and Ron Hynes Songwriter of the Year. She is excited to be connecting with audiences and sharing bills with artists she admires on her solo Autumn Tour in support of ‘The In Between’. To Listen: The In Between by Valmy Official Website: valmymusic.com Links & Press: https://linktr.ee/valmyvee Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/valmyvee Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/valmeemusic Tour Dates Here Graham is a songwriter at heart. Since picking up a box violin at the age of five he has always played by ear and listened for the melody. Drawn to the intimacy and immediacy of the stage, Graham reached his ten thousand hours by performing with countless groups through the tens. A singer and multi-instrumentalist, the highlight of this chapter was co-leading indie folk outfit Common Deer from 2014 to 2021, who toured extensively in Canada and the U.S. to support three studio releases. In the stillness of the pandemic, song writing flooded back in. A new honesty emerged both in texture and words. Graham now knows a greater responsibility and seeks his best both in sentiment and delivery. Owning his stage name from a solo project back in 2007, Just Graham wants to remind you that love isn’t dead, and beauty lies in imperfection. Official Website: www.justgrahammusic.com

Gather - Exhibition Opening Event | Crescent Hill Gallery
Oct 25, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Dundas
Curatorial Statement What does it mean to gather? To gather around, to gather together, to assemble, to accumulate—it’s about closeness and community. This year’s fall exhibition, Gather, celebrates the act of coming together through the appreciation of original art by local and regional Canadian artists. It highlights the myriad ways in which we gather—whether it’s people, information, or ideas. Gathering evokes social practices, rituals, and festive events that are central to every culture, religion, family, and individual. These practices reinforce a sense of identity and continuity within communities. Artists, as members of their own cultures and communities, are adept at communicating ideas and perspectives that invite us to connect and reflect. Through their art, artists gather concepts and present them in ways that foster open dialogue. Each artist’s practice asks its own questions, formulating ideas that drive them to create and connect with their audience. This exhibition aims to link artistic practice with viewer experience, celebrating art’s unique storytelling power. Visitors to this exhibition will enjoy a collector’s preview of Crescent Hill’s fall collection of original works. The pieces span various materials and subjects, yet all represent fresh explorations in color, subject matter, and style. In a world that often leans towards individualism, we aim to celebrate our community of artists and art enthusiasts. This autumn, we invite you to
