🦉 Early Bird 10% discount for the first 5 tickets! 🦢 If you've ever thought you might like to try painting birds but are not sure how to go about it, in this class we'll be focusing on techniques perfect for beginners to get you started on your journey! Cuckmere Haven nature reserve is a habitat for so many different birds, making it a perfect place to learn. The class will be hosted in the cosy barn at the Visitors Centre & we will be drawing and painting from photo reference. However during the break or before or after the workshop, the nature reserve is just on the doorstep to have an explore and see some of the birds! What we'll be doing:🖌️ Watercolour techniques We will start by learning basic watercolour techniques such as painting feathers, block shapes, eyes, wet on wet, dry brush etc. This will help us later with painting the birds. ✏️ Drawing We'll then learn to draw the birds from a few different angles. We will break them down into the simplest shapes - circles, triangles, 'S' shapes etc. There will also be tracing paper exercises to get us warmed up for this part of the class! 🦢 Painting the birds We'll then begin combining what we have learned in the create bird paintings. I'll guide you throughout the process, and there will be time towards the end to freestyle. Info about the classes:Who's it for: This series is designed as an introduction to those who are just starting out in watercolour who are totally new. For anyone particularly worried about the drawing side of this class (which I know can be nerve wracking!) there is tracing tools available to give you a head start. The main thing is the treat these workshops as a learning experience and not put too much pressure on yourself to create a 'masterpeice' at the end. What you'll come away with: 🖌️ An understanding of what techniques are needed for painting birds ✏️ An understanding of the structure of birds through drawing 📒 A physical sketchbook that we'll bind at the end full of experiments 🦅 A few A4 paintings of our techniques combined together What's included: All materials are supplied 🖌️ 🎨Tea, coffee & snacks ☕️🍪What to bring: Lunch! - or you can buy something at the cafe at the Visitors Centre. What's the vibe: These classes are very low pressure so if you're someone who's a bit anxious about starting art again, or trying it for the first time, this genuinely is a really good place to start. Many people who come to the class haven't painted since school but end up really enjoying the experience (even if it goes a bit wonky!). Whether you want to just come to one session, or many! You're welcome to to do whatever fits with your schedule / life. You are welcome to attend as many classes as you feel. The classes work separately as well as together in a series. By attending multiple classes there will be time to expand and solidify any techniques you have learned as well as gaining new ones. ⭐️ If you would like to attend all 4 sessions, I am offering a deal of 4 classes for £200 (which is £50 per class!). Just send me an email if this takes your fancy! gingergreenartist@gmail.com YOUR TUTOR Hi I'm Zara who's behind Gingergreen. I started teaching watercolours in March 2023 which is exciting because its been more than a year now! Multiple times week I run beginner watercolour classes where each session we have a different theme, generally to do with nature. This year I'm looking forward to running day courses, or some courses that span over a few weeks where we can get really stuck in to a particular subject. My background is in illustration which I studied in Bristol from 2016 - 2019. I have previously worked in a bit of editorial illustration under the name 'Zara Wilkins'. The thing I love most about watercolours is that it is so versatile. There are so many different ways it can be used, so many effects that you can create with different levels of water, pigment, paper weights and brushes. There doesn't really seem to be an end to what you can do with it. Teaching continues to be such a fun experience and I really look forward to every class I run. Painting
Learn to paint resident birds at Cuckmere Haven Nature Reserve! This workshop is aimed at beginners who would like to learn basic watercolour painting and an understanding of techniques that apply to birds (and more!) Every 2nd Sunday of the month from March - June, we will be painting a new local bird. Here are the dates: You are welcome to attend as many classes as you feel. Just send me an email if this takes your fancy! gingergreenartist@gmail.com Book via www.gingergreenartist.com/courses What we'll be doing: We will start by learning basic watercolour techniques that will be applied later when painting the birds. Throughout the class we will be creating our own sketchbook of experiments, drawings and paintings that we will bind together at the end of the session. After the watercolour techniques we will move on to drawing. Drawing the birds will allow us to get a structure down to then apply watercolour on top. This takes away the pressure when painting later and give us a better understanding of how the birds are structured. As we move forward we will paint the birds at different angles and start adding in background elements. We will experiment with using different techniques in combination with eachother. At this point we can start moving on to bigger pages that would be separate from your sketchbook. What you'll come away with: A sketchbook full of experiments, notes, paintings and drawingsFinalised pages of bird paintingsWho's it for: These classes are suitable for beginners and people starting out in watercolour painting. However if you already have a bit more experience of painting you'd also be welcome to come and practise your skills or learn something new. BERMUDA RHOMBUS | BEN O'SULLIVAN | SE15 1TR

Comedy
Ben O'sullivan is an offbeat comedian whose style is as silly as it is deadpan. Think of him as a deflating bouncy castle (colourful, whimsical, and only slightly full of hot air). When Ben turned 30 last year, he decided to celebrate by doing the coolest thing he could imagine: getting his ear pierced. But then he started asking himself the big question everyone asks when they reach their 30s: Am I a narcissist? Or is it just the piercing? Bermuda Rhombus is an exploration of this internal need for attention. Ben’s musings on the subject cover a lot of ground: from trying to find out why mirrors were invented to questioning if the Great Fire of London was, in fact, bad. Ultimately, Ben will answer the most important question of our time: Is everything about him? Through Ben's surreal and silly comedic lens, you'll see your own impulses for attention and validation reflected back at you - and you'll laugh at just how absurd it all is. A very dry, laid back style of delivery... He reminds me of James Acaster in his early days -Everything Theatre. Information Source: The Pen Theatre | eventbrite

Following the smash hit success of his Silver Jubilee show (“the best thing he’s done and that’s saying something.” ★★★★★ Telegraph) Luke Wright returns with a new set poems that get to grips with the idea of JOY. Is it possible, as a 42 year old to feel pure unbridled happiness, and what does it look like? The French novelist Henry de Montherlant said that “happiness writes white” but Wright’s not exactly starting with a blank page. With a mix of the comic and the wistful, JOY takes in consumerism, boozing, cancer scares, abseiling vicars, and the joy of language itself. We might have to go down to come up, but we’ll get there in the end. Come let a little joy into your life with a raconteur and wordsmith at the top of his game. Literary Arts
For writers of sci-fi, fabulism, magical realism, horror, dystopian or speculative fiction, introducing readers to the rules of your world while avoiding clumsy exposition can be a daunting challenge. What can literary greats working outside of realism teach us about making stories in new worlds? What can we uncover about how to execute exposition, character, scene, theme, symbolism, and mystery? How do stories employing unreal, surreal, magical, or sci-fi elements tell us about ourselves? Each week, students will read short stories or excerpts which illustrate craft concepts across a variety of genres; possible texts by Ted Chiang, Joy Williams, Octavia Butler, Gabriel García Márquez, Carmen Maria Machado, Ling Ma, Mariana Enriquez, Shirley Jackson, Lesley Nneka Arimah, and Karen Russell. We will discuss the readings, have a short craft talk, and explore an in-class writing prompt. There is no formal workshop component, but students will have the opportunity to receive peer feedback on short excerpts of their work. Students should expect to read the texts outside of class and arrive ready to discuss. The workshop will run every Thursday from 7pm - 8:30pm from March 13th to March 17th. There are only 5 spaces available, so register soon! Facilitator Bio: Emily Johnson is a writer and teacher dividing her time between Brooklyn and Toronto. She has an MFA in Fiction from Columbia University, where she was the Print Fiction Editor of the Columbia Journal, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Columbia’s Undergraduate Creative Writing Program. She has been longlisted for The New Quarterly's Peter Hinchcliffe Fiction Award, and her work can be found in PRISM International Magazine. Information Source: Toronto Writers' Centre | eventbrite
