It is the oldest bridge still in use in Australia. The bridge was built by convict laborers and completed in 1825. It was originally named Bigg Bridge, named after Royal Commissioner John Bigg. The raw material of Richmond Bridge is sandstone from the Butchers Hill Quarry, which was transported to the construction site by prisoners using carts. The bridge has four large arches and two small arches, all designed according to the characteristics of water flow.”

There are three oldest prisons in Richmond Town, among which Richmond Gaol is the oldest and best preserved prison in Australia. It was built in 1825 and is one of the best preserved prisons in Tasmania. British criminal Aitch Solomon was once imprisoned here. When visiting the prison, you can see the dormitory of chained prisoners, the whipping yard, the kitchen and storage room, etc., which reproduces the life of prisoners in the past. There is a fee to visit here, and the ticket price is 15 Australian dollars.”

The Prison Church Historic Site, which used to be an old prison building, shows the local prison environment more than half a century ago, as well as the judicial system in Tasmania. Visitors can see the former court here, or follow the dim stairs to the cell and visit the cell environment. I took a tour map, which marked many places. Now all we see is a ruin.
