Wenshu Monastery is the most well-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu, also known as 'Konglin Hall'. Facing south from the north, the architecture is a typical ancient style of the western Sichuan plain, mainly wooden buildings. It was first built during the Daye period of the Sui Dynasty, and has gone through the Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties. It used to be called Xiangxiangyuan or Xiangxiang Temple, and it was not until the 36th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1697) that it was renamed Wenshu Monastery. The sculptures of the two generals and the Four Heavenly Kings in the hall are all works from the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. The Guanyin Hall, a single-eave Xieshan-style building, was built in the 36th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1697) and was rebuilt in the 20th year of Jiaqing (1815). The bronze statues of Guanyin, Manjushri, and Samantabhadra in the hall were cast in the ninth year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1829). The Guan Shengdi and Wenchang Emperors on the left and right were sculpted during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. The bronze statue of Weituo Bodhisattva behind the hall is a masterpiece, 2 meters high, cast in the ninth year of Daoguang (1829). This Weituo is a 'one-time casting' whole bronze statue, which has a high cultural value. The Daxiong Hall was built in the 36th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1697) and was rebuilt in the sixth year of Qianlong (1741). The statue of Sakyamuni Buddha in the hall was cast in the ninth year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1829). The Sutra Tower was built in the 36th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty and was rebuilt in the twelfth year of Jiaqing. It is a very tall building with double eaves and Xieshan-style. In the middle of the hall is a very perfect Burmese jade Buddha, as well as eighteen Arhats and twenty-four gods. The Thousand Buddha Peace Pagoda and garden, the Thousand Buddha Peace Pagoda in the garden was built in 1988.
