Shimenkan

Shimenkan, located in the northwest corner of Guizhou near the most edge of Sichuan and Shanghai, is one of the poorest places in China. However, in 1905, with the arrival of British missionary Bergley, it quickly became the "highest area of the Miao culture in the southwest", the highest level of modern education in China, and in the eyes of Westerners, it has the reputation of "cultural holy place", "overseas heaven", "the side of the cloud" and other reputations.

Shimenkan is known as "the west of the west, the far away", and the houses in the village are still primitive thatched roofs. The most worth seeing in Shimenkan is the most remote Sukezhai, where the original old church is retained. The church is actually very simple and can only be identified from the cross painted on the white wall outside the house.
