Picnic and Kite-Flying In St. John Island 🇸🇬
#weekendgetaways
St. John's Island, located a short ferry ride from Singapore, offers a tranquil getaway with its lush landscapes and serene beaches. Known for its rich history and as a former quarantine station, this island has transformed into a popular destination for picnics and kite-flying, especially among families and groups looking for a leisurely day in a picturesque setting.
Idyllic Picnic Spots
Upon arriving at St. John's Island, visitors are greeted by sprawling green fields and shady trees, providing the perfect backdrop for a picnic. The island's picnic areas are well-maintained, offering plenty of space for spreading out blankets and enjoying a laid-back afternoon with loved ones. The calm and relatively less crowded environment makes it an ideal location for those seeking to escape the city's hustle and enjoy some quiet time in nature.
A Kite-Flyer’s Paradise
The open fields and the regular breezes coming off the sea make St. John’s Island an excellent spot for kite-flying. Enthusiasts and beginners alike will find the open skies and steady winds conducive to flying a wide variety of kites. It's not uncommon to see the sky dotted with colorful kites soaring high, making it a delightful sight against the backdrop of blue waters and green landscapes.
Amenities and Accessibility
While St. John's Island is more rustic compared to other recreational areas in Singapore, it offers essential amenities like public restrooms and picnic pavilions. Visitors are advised to bring their food and water as options on the island are limited. The ferry service to and from the island is reliable and frequent, making it easily accessible for a day trip.
A day trip to St. John's Island is perfect for those looking to enjoy simple pleasures like picnicking under the trees or flying kites in the open air. The island's serene beaches, clear waters, and quiet trails offer a refreshing break from urban life, making it a cherished spot for relaxation and family fun.

Whether you're spreading out a picnic, flying kites, or just enjoying the natural beauty, St. John's Island provides a peaceful and picturesque setting for a perfect day out.
Nice place to go for a picnic. The beaches are beautiful, and you may go to Lazarus Island on foot from Saint John's Island.
The Garpo Agricultural and Grain Veterinary Bureau established a marine breeding center in the south of St. John's Island, a marine breeding center set up at a cost of 33 million yuan, mainly to study the technology of large-scale incubation of fish eggs and breeding fish fry. In recent years, some tourists have photographed dolphins in the sea of St. John. Dolphins are very cute animals. I can't think of seeing them on St. John.
Very beautiful St. John's Island, there are very few people on the island, and there are not many local residents. Compared with Sentosa, it is simply a paper drunk and gold fan. It is a very quiet and comfortable place.
St. John's Island belongs to Singapore. An island that has not been commercialized. There are regular cruises to and from Singapore's main island every day. The scenery of St. John's Island is pleasant, and walking on the beach is also pleasant. If you stay in Singapore for a period of time, you can take a half-day trip to St. John's Island. Maybe you will have a different experience.
If there are three tickets, go to the island next door for half a day
Used to visit before the pandemic. Nice “private” island to relax, away from our busy lives in mainland Singapore. We missed the ferry back and had fun hiring a speedboat back to Mainland. Will visit again!
