Singapore National Orchid Garden Coolhouse
Love snapping picture at Singapore Botanic Garden especially at National Orchid Garden.. it’s such a beautiful place for afternoon stroll with family 🥰
Orchid is Singapore’s National Flower. Vanda Miss Joaquim was chosen as Singapore's national flower from among 40 other contenders, including some 30 orchids. For its resilience and year-round blooming quality, it was chosen on 15 April 1981 to represent Singapore's uniqueness and hybrid culture.
Tropical Montane Orchidetum
The tropical Montane Orchidetum simulates the experience of ascending through a tropical montane forest and showcases a diversity of orchids and other plants (e.g. bromeliads, gingers, tropical rhododendrons, gesneriads (and magnolias) from the rich low to high-elevation montane forest. Each of the display houses within the Orchidetum has been expanded beyond their original size, increasing by almost threefold the combined display area.
The Sembcorp Cool House
They preserved part of the original 260m2 frame of the original cool house and curated the orchid collection in the Cool House according to five biogeographical regions – Malesia, Continental Southeast Asia and South Asia, Australasia, Afrotropics and the Neotropics.
The Sembcorp Cool House is designed to emulate a high elevation montane forest, which exists at altitudes of 1,000m to 2,000m, and with a surrounding temperature of 16 to 23 degrees Celsius. Researchers will be able to study rare orchids that are naturally found only at higher elevations, such as such as Cymbidiums (also known as Boat Orchids), Dendrochilums (also known as Chain Orchids), Cyrtochilums and Phragmipediums (also known as Slipper Orchids). This will greatly benefit taxonomic and floristic research, as researchers will be able to grow rare species, before identifying and documenting them at a later stage when they flower.
Approximately 1,000 orchid species and hybrids are exhibited in the Cool House, together with new varieties from other plant families beyond orchids, an increase from the previous collection of 350 orchid species. Also growing among the orchids, are collections of carnivorous plants, begonias that have characteristic shimmering leaves that help them to thrive in areas with low light levels.

what a pretty orchid garden in Botanics garden ! There are a huge variety of orchids being maintained here.
Happened to bump into the free admission due to school holidays ! Located within the Singapore National Botanical Gardens, this is a must see in its own right. The orchard garden house a plethora of orchid species, many native to Singapore only. It’s a pretty huge area and it takes about 45 minutes to one hour to walk around and appreciate the whole of the garden. One of the standout parts of the orchid garden are the unique species of orchid that are created for visiting dignitaries such as Obama, fellow Sultans and many more. These are really interesting. There is also a 'Sembcorp Coolhouse' that's worth seeing to. It’s a refreshing and cooling spot after a long walk in botanical garden. The architecture and floral arrangements are very well-thought and gives you a sense of peace and very impressed by the work. Even the cement flooring fits in with the floral theme that has leaves and floral patterns on it! Overall the orchid garden is a must visit if you are in Singapore 🌼
enjoyed the beautiful flowers and nice weather with colleagues and friends ~ recommended
