A decade of unchanged slow-paced life in a fishing village | A trip to Lamma Island, Hong Kong
| A trip to Lamma Island, Hong Kong. As time goes by, it's surprising that Lamma Island has remained unchanged for ten years, still without any cars, hence the local area retains its simplicity, and time seems to stand still here.
·
As an outlying island less than half an hour's ferry ride from the city, it has remained a small fishing village for so many years. It is said that after several rounds of voting by the islanders on whether to allow cars, the majority chose to live with more primitive means of transportation (walking, cycling, etc.), thus preserving the island's unspoiled ecology. Here, you can truly experience the meaning of 'slow living'.

🚢| Transportation:
You can take a ferry directly to Yung Shue Wan or Sok Kwu Wan from Central Pier No. 4.
The fare with an Octopus card is HKD 18.6. The last ferry on Friday is at 00:15, and we took the 23:30 one. During the day, there is a ferry every half hour, and at night, every hour. It takes 25 minutes to get to Yung Shue Wan, and Sok Kwu Wan is a bit further.
🍜| Dining:
Choi's Snack. HKD 7 for a soy milk ice, HKD 55 for a three-meat noodle dish. They also have a beautiful pear flower cat.
🏠| Accommodation:
Leisure Holiday House, HKD 560/night, there are also options below 500, but smaller in size. Guesthouse check-in is only until 23:00, and a fee of HKD 200 is charged for check-ins after 23:00 (as a night service fee for the guesthouse staff's overtime).
📸| Route:
If you're only playing for half a day, you can choose between Yung Shue Wan or Sok Kwu Wan. They are 5km apart, and it takes 1 hour to walk between them.

🏖Yung Shue Wan's sea water is quite cool, and few people swim. There are free showers, toilets, and changing rooms by the beach, but the showers do not have hot water, and you need to bring your own shower gel and shampoo.
⛰Lamma Island is small, and it may not meet your expectations. It's not convenient or refined, but you can feel the way life originally was.
A fantastic way to spend the day. The hike from one end of the island to the other was very nice with amazing views along the way. The path is well marked and is suitable for people of all ages.
Lamma island is such a nice getaway from the city! can take a ferry from central and would be an amazing day trip to enjoy the serenity
so amazinglypeaceful and beautiful. the water is clear as their night sky. words are literally impossible to describe such a peaceful and beautiful place. will definitely be returning with family and close friends in the future
Fortunate to be there on a good weather with a good hike. The Masculine Rock I wanted to visit was off trail mostly local climb it. Would require track pants as there are lots of bushes and branches. Stopped halfway as I was wearing shorts. Will re-attempt another time.
I visit Lamma Island once to twice a month. I love hiking there and swimming in the sea, although it can be rocky so I suggest you wear swimming shoes. The beach is very private. I love eating lunch at Lapa. The beef fajitas is my favourite there. Pam, the restaurant owner is a very nice lady.
This island may seem not picturesque from afar because of the big chimneys. But once you get to the Yung Shu Wan ferry pier, keep hiking to the beach, one can feel the vivid island atmosphere and forget the power station easily. The pier itself is different from Lantau and Cheung Chau, with a hundred meters walk with bicycles hanging along both sides. Then the restaurants scattered among the holiday houses in the main street. Though I cannot see any traditional fishing village left. The island i
