Hakodate Jomon Culture Center

This is a museum introducing the Jomon culture, located in the Minamikabe district in the northern part of Hakodate. The Jomon period is the period from about 10,000 years ago to the first century BC in Japan from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic. Stone tools, pottery, accessories and other Jomon relics made more than 3,500 years ago are displayed in the museum. Among them, the hollow clay doll (a hollow clay figure, nicknamed "Kaiko") unearthed during farming in 1975 was designated as an important Japanese culture. wealth, and is a national treasure of Hokkaido. There are 7 kinds of activities in the experience learning room in the museum, including pottery, Jomon weaving, earthen flute, and jewelry making.
